I went to this car audio guy today to get a price on a system, this guy told me 4 thousand dollars onthe setup w/ kenwood excelon. He also told me that nav systems sre not included in ANY headunit, and tried kncking the pioneer for having a switch that connected to the park brake... Is this guy feening me crap or what?

I have the Z1 installed in my LS and love it. The Nav was part of the headunit when I bought it.

It has alot of features that I havent even had time to mess with but it was well worth the money. You can't watch DVD's on the screen while you are driving but I think it is this way with most setups. My stereo guy is working on a way to bypass it. He said it is pretty easy just gotta get the time to do it.

The rest of the screens in my car will play while the car is driving though.

man, it really frustrates me whenever I catch someone charging too much for their product and then try and tell me lies about other brands that they don't carry.. what a liar this guy was. He tried to tell me 16 hundred for a kenwood excelon and then tried to convince me that there are no brands with the navi already installed....grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I paid $1650 plus got free shipping for the Z1. Shop around on the web and then find a place to put it in for you.

I just realized that the guy did say that he can rig the kenwood to watch movies while in motion, so if what you say is true about watching dvds, then I might have to let this guy do the headunit.. but then again, it will have no navi... Ya know, the backseats aren't fun on the road trippppppp!

Check with Bill Jenkins at www.teamfordlv.com. He is the Internet Parts Manager and had a killer price on the Pioneer. And it does have nav!

vivid, if the z1 is andything like the n-2 then it has motion sensors inside the unit that sense when the car is moving and shut down the video feed, and on top of that they have the parking brake wire, thre is a way to bypass the motion sensors that involves soldering two posts in the main brain of the unit, but that can go bad and it also voidsthe warranty on it if you do that, so be careful what he does. Ive done alot of work with this kind of stuff if you have any more questions, but if your looking for an all in one unit that is amazing, IMO better then pioneer, check out hte eclipse unit, i cant remeber the model number, even though they are sold at circuit city they are the best unit on the market, sound control and features are incredible, check it out its a great unit

I have the Eclipse Nav unit, and it is AWESOME. The guy that did the hookup for me left off the wire that went to the parking brake (amazing what a $20 bill will do).

We've never watched movies driving around town, but on a long trip the wife might want to watch something.

I have the Z1 in my wife's Aviator.

http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=23386

I paid a lot more than I had to because I wanted to buy it from someone who had great customer service and that I knew would take care of me if anything came up. With the Z1, XM & NavTraffic, Bluetooth, and all the necessary adapters, mounting kit, etc., it all came to about $2500. I installed it myself...it just isn't that hard to do. I took a little over a day, took my time, and soldered and heat shrinked every single connection.

This unit is hard drive driven and everything is contained in the head unit. The motion interlocks can indeed be bypassed, but the process to do that is nothing like anything Pioneer (or anyone else) has used in the past. It is VERY easy to do. I have full functionality of every feature the unit has at all times...moving or not. There is a forum site that explains it all. PM me if you want it....I'm not posting it here and get the owner of this site in trouble. By the way, it has almost nothing to do with the park brake wire...so whoever is selling you that bill of goods is either misinformed, or an idiot. The Z1 is smarter than that and it won't work.

This unit is by far the best navigation system I have ever run across. All the features it has blows just about everything else out of the water. The NavTraffic alone is worth the price of admission. It totally integrates the navigation with your Bluetooth phone. If you have park assist in your car, it will still mute the radio when it engages. Delayed shut off still works until you open the door, etc. Buy it...you won't be disappointed.

The Z1 is totally integrated into one unit and is hdd driven. It's a much better unit. It's also Doulbe Din.

As does my Z1....plus I have all Navigation features while in motion. That's much more important to me than watching the movie.

The guy is totally full of it. If he sells high end products like that then he is eduacated on them. I have the Eclipse AVN5495 with has a 30 gig hard drive. 10 gigs for the GPS system and you can store 20 gigs of music on it at about a 128 kbps mp3 equivalent. I did alot of looking around and research and IMHO this is heads and shoulders above the Kenwood and Pioneer units. About $2k installed and I can use Nav and watch DVD's while in motion. Take your time and look around.

I agree. Look around and read the online independant reviews. You'll buy the Pioneer. The features and functionality of the Z1 blow the Eclipse away.

I can get the kenwood DX1017 for like 700 dollars.. u can install it at a local shop for 100.. it plays DVD and everything while the car is in motion and to add navigation is about another 1000 dollars..

the pioneer comes with navi but it doesnt come with dvd player.. the one vivid has is the newer one with "stock" navi and dvd AND it has a 30 gig harddrive but it's pretty steep on price..

i personally like the resolution on the kenwood better than the eclipse, but the eclipse navi looks better than the pioneer navigation.. plus it had options for day time and night time navigation..

i havent seen the navi on the kenwood so i cant help u there.. I have also heard that alpine is the best out there but not many ppl have it.. atleast not that i have seen here on the LS..

If i have the money to spend I would go with the pioneer hat vivid has... if ur lookin for the best for ur buck i would go with the kenwood.. u can add the camera for like 300 like I did and if u ever want navi, you can buy it.. the pioneer is like 2000 or so.. for that price u can get the kenwood wit navi.. so its up to u..

as far as that parking break idea.. i know that last year at the local shop around my house, pioneer had a wire that connected to the parking brake so that the car only worked when it was on, but that wire was just connected to a constant ground i believe and the radio was able to be used anytime..

hope i was of some help

Bangin...you can buy the Z1 for around $1500 on the street. That's cheaper than the Kenwood setup. And yes...it does play DVD's as well as navigation all contained in the head unit. Plus it has NavTraffic capabilities. If you haven't tried that, you will be amazed. If I'm headed across town, I simply punch in the address OR the phone number where I'm going and it plots the route. Then the NavTraffic pops up any trouble spots along the way...including traffic flow. It will also reroute you around them if you wish. The Bluetooth is phenominal. My wife will now take a phone call in the car where she wouldn't before. All in all, you just can't beat the bang for the buck. Also the screen quality is pretty damn good!!

By the way, the park brake thing is not viable on this unit. There's only one way to properly throw this thing into bypass and it does NOT involve relays, solder. or anything like that. As a matter of fact, you can do it without a single extra thing if you're willing to do the procedure everytime you start the car. If not, there is a circuit available to do it for you for next to nothing. PM me if you're interested. I don't want to get Joey any additional heat by posting it here.

u can get the kenwood on the street for 500.. i meant 700 from a store... or internet site.. not used or anything..

I never heard of the NavTraffic, that sounds dope.. what does it use to calculate trouble spots? Does it update periodically? News waves? I know about the rerouting thing but not the nav traffic...

You really need to investigate NavTraffic before you comment on it. It really is amazing. It's only available in about 30 cities right now, but the list is constantly growing. It uses information from several sources such as the police, DOT, etc and also uses flow sensors in the freeways to report the speed traffic is moving. It is continously updating and is as current as any traffic report you will ever get. Sometimes even more so. It pops up trouble spots from accidents, construction, heavy traffic, just about anything that disrupts the normal flow of traffic. The Z1 even displays the speed the traffic is moving at in slow spots. The icons for trouble spots are automatically populated to the navigation map where you can display just exactly what the problem is. The Z1 will even automatically reroute you around them. And if you already have XM radio, it's about $4 a month. The first thing my wife does when she heads to work in the morning is calculate her route and check the NavTraffic along the way. No more having to listen to the radio to find the trouble spots.

You can find out more about it here: http://www.xmradio.com/xmnavtraffic/about.jsp

But the proof is in the pudding. Find someone who knows how to use it. You will never make another comment like that again. It's that good.

That is a damn good price. there are cheaper ones out there, but you don't know who you're dealing with. I wouldn't be afraid to jump on that.

By the way...spring for next day air. don't let them bounce that expensive unit through about half a dozen depots getting tossed around when they change trucks, etc.

Question:
Where did you get the woodgrain piece that surrounds your Nav? Im assuming you purchased the actual faceplate from teamfordparts.com..but where did you get the woodgrain piece? Im going to need one myself..

I ordered a dash kit from Ken at LSKoncepts and he was able to get me the surround from the company. This was last year so I am not sure if he can do it anymore.

yeah man that's a nice surround around your in-dash. i haven't done the center vents and the climate control because i didn't want the side of the tv to be black. now that i've seen it on yours there's hope for me to get it. i have an alpine d300 that i got a while back. i haven't heard anyone mention alpine on here so i thought i should throw it out there. it's very good i think but the double din looks really good. only thing is that i live in the los angeles area and if someone sees a double din on the street i'll find my window shattered in the morning. i'm actually about to add the navi, but then again it is a lot of money. and the bypass is extremely easy on the alpine's i think. aight people, nice in dash set-ups
