Aren't 18" tires REALLY expensive?

I'm thinking about replacing the rims on my Gen 1 Mark VIII. Having replaced all my hubs within the past 10k miles, I'm not about to convert over to the 4.5 inch lugs now.

It almost seems like there are more 18" available. Aren't 18" tires a small fortune? Isn't a cheap 18" tire about twice what a good 16 or 17" tire costs?

Did you put 18" on the beautiful project car you've been working on in the other thread?

$130 isn't outrageous, I don't think they make crappy/cheap 18s.

My 255/45R18 BFGoodrich KDW-2's were 161 a piece, 40 buck shipped. Those are Ultra High Performance Summer tires.

I bought these tires but in 245-45-18 for $500 shipped. They are made by goodyear and handle great and the treadwear is VERY good. Im hooked.

Yeh, they are getting alot more reasonable. As long as you stay away from the odd ball sizes. My 265/40/18 KDW BFGs were over $1000 shipped. The popular 245/40 wasn't recommended for the 9.5" rim I have, and would have looked to skinny on the rim. The wider ones would have been a bigger rubbing issue and to tall in a 40, to short in a 35. So when I found them, I had to belly up and get them.

Turned out perfect IMO.

Same as the rear.
18x9.5 rims with 265/40/18 tires.

18" is a fairly common OEM size now so the tires aren't that expensive. A friend of mine has 19s on his M3, now those are expensive.

Realize also - As gas prices rise, so do tire costs. Tires are made with petroleum products.

I might be cheap but paying the price they want for 18" and up is too much for me.

I think you can get a good look out of a 16" or even a 17" tire and or rim.

To me as the rims get bigger they start to look like Wagon Wheels. They draw too much attention to the rim and take away from the car. 18" would be the maximum rim size, but like you were stating tire prices start going up.

Then again it all depends on what you have to waste money on.:shifty:

For 94m5 and his project I can see his investment. He's making a very nice Mark VIII and show car. Joey just needs to spend his LvC money LOL...
What would the Godfather be with out one hot car.

But for the average Joe on the site who uses his car daily or more often - the bigger rims and more expensive tires not for me. But then everyone gets to have an opinion...:)

Only full turn, easy to avoid. They look like they'd catch the fender but don't.

I GET TIRES AT WHOLESALE. SO PASSENGER CAR TIRES COST ME ABOUT 80.00 AND UP DEPENDING ON BRAND. WANLI, KUMHO, NITTO, TOYO. THIS IS MY PRICE FOR 18s. i usually sell them about 10.00 more than i pay, plus shipping.

mine were under $1k for everything. 245/45/zr18's including the wheels. you can get really good deals if you look. my 18" tires were no more expensive than my 16" tires.

I took a closer look at the picture and re-read the thread. Right now, he has 275/40/17" Cobra-Rs on the car, and I think they look great. I think that looks even better than the 18" bullet rims.
