Fuel economy and Gear swap

First of all, yes I searched, but the results were VERY broad.

Simple question: What ratio did you previously have, what ratio are you now running, and what effect on fuel economy (positive or negative) have you noticed?

I know this can be different for every car, so I thought I would ask to find out how it has been witht he Mark VIII's and see if we can't settle this issue here. I have seen those who say that a (numerical) increase in gear ratio is a dearth on fuel economy, some who have said they see no difference, and a few who have said they have made improvements in fuel economy with a higher gear.

I'd like to hear the results of this thread as well. In addition I ask that if you respond, please differentiate between city and highway mileage.

Have had Mark VIII's for 10 years. Been around the boards for awhile. Consensus is you pick up mileage in the city and lose it on the highway.

Hopefully some guys will post specifics but I'm pretty confident that is what you can expect.

If you're 18/26 now, I would say you could be 20/24 after.

Monster, is this 3.73 or 4.10s?
