Buddy of mind did it in his garage for $180. Looks very professional as my buddy used to tint windows professionaly at a place called Ziebart. When the cops metered my tint they said it read 15%...oh well...I've only got one ticket and I never paid the thing anyways cuz they labeled my car is a black conti on the ticket. lol.

IMO...just have it all done professionally. No hassle and if its not done right they will redo it...simple as that!

Cops don't like tints around here I get b/s for it all the time but

Sometimes professional tint shops won't tint too illegal depending on the laws in your state. The professional tint shop I went to refused to tint my windows below 35% all around and the legal limit is 50%. I wanted 20%. Basically the guy said you will be back to have it removed within a month anyways...ha. Thats what he thought.

I used to work at Best Buy here in Scottsdale. We installed Madico window tint for a couple of months.(terrible idea for best buy) Anyway i have it on my car and it was very easy to do. I did it myself, the hardest window was the back. I'd say i took me about 45 mins to do the whole car. Just follow the instructions if i came with some. As far as the solution goes we used about 6 pumps of baby soap in a squart bottle.

Yeah it sucks. I paid ~$300 about a year and half ago in Iowa City. It's held up good so far. 5% on the back three and 50% on the front two.

must be nice to have all your windows tinted for under $200. i checked with the local shops around here to get the front 2 of my truck tinted to match the factory. they told me it was $100 just for the front 2 of my truck at 20% after that i was afraid to ask about my ls at 20%

Being that it's pre-cut, you should concentrate on cleaning the windows before installation. A clean job is THE HARDEST part of window tinting. BTW, how is the rear window done? Did they send you strips, or 1 large piece, and they expect you to shrink it out?

I won't either. Part of my profit margin comes from the film. Besides, if something went wrong with your film, 95% if the time, you'd expect me to fix it for free.

Here is mine with 20% on seven windows.

First off, he must not be much of a friend. For a 4-dr car, with complete lifetime warranty (bubbling, peeling, change of color, fading) I charge $190. For the less expensive lifetime warranty film (jbubbling, peeling) I charge $140. For friends, depending on how good of friends they are, they either get it for $110 (dealer price) or my absolute lowest price of $85.

For $180, he could at least have used a full-metal film so it wouldn't have turned purple already. And the part about getting out of the ticket because the cop put down the wrong car is BS. I have friends that are on the local PD, and they always laugh when they hear BS stories such as yours.

IMO...just have it all done professionally. No hassle and if its not done right they will redo it...simple as that!

Couldn't have said it better myself....

Where the hell are you from? I'm packing up shop and moving!!

I actually lived in PHX when Best Buy was doing tinting. (or was that the $1 install radio place?) Anyways, any soap works fine. I've used baby soap, Joy, Dawn, etc. But, 6 pumps is WAY too much.

$110? Either you know somebody, or the film they used isn't a good grade of film.

Did you ever get this tint installed? I got some and I was wondering how it went with yours?

Well I had a go at it today and I ended up throwing all the tint away. The sh!tty film kept tearing when I would try to peel it from the clear plastic. I would not recommend XtremeCity pre-cut tint. They have an ebay store, so stay clear of them. I have to say it was a waste of money. I'm going to go have it done right.

aren't you supposed to wet the backing b4 you separate it?

hey guys this is an old thread.... but i got my tint too and it was crappy and when i was putting it on there was too many bubbles so it pissed me off and i ripped everthing off.... i guess its best to just go and give 300-400 to the pros..

July 19th, 2006, 10:33 PM
Yep. If you wet the backing per the instructions...it peels right off.

As an aside..I once opted for the metallic high grade film on a car I had back in 1992...kept it until 1999, and it never peeled/faded/purpled..anything. It did, however, have this slightly annoying haze to it all the time.

On my next car, the tint shop owner offered to sell me the metallic film tint again..but said the lower cost/non metallic tint would last just as long, assuming I cleaned it properly (ie no windex/ammonia...just a damp soft cotton cloth)..and that the warranty on the metallic film was longer, simply due to the extra cost.

I've had the lower cost/entry level film for 4 years now...no issues at all. Had it on the prior car for 4 years..no problem. My brother has the exact same tint/film on his 325i that he has had since 1996...with no problems.

$150 to $190 is the going rate here in the DC metro area

9enisP
July 20th, 2006, 04:45 PM
I did wet the back but the film didn't seem like it had been cut very well. Some of it would peel off and then it would stick and tear.
