poniesviii May 16th, 2006, 03:32 PM Wow I paid just over $450 and I have the most complex color to create (the blackest black) outside of a pearl or metallic and I also have pearl purple ghost flames that took twice the materials over a regualar paint job (fine line, wax & grease remover and way more mask/paper/plastic) It came out absolutely flawless after wetsand/buff.
I even had to pay for the U-pole 'glass sealant (and the $60 gun for it) to keep the chemicals from seeping out of the glue in my hood, ..gen 1 of course.. and I had to redo it because I didn't use it the first time and these hoods are way fussy once you hit the factory gel coat. :(
I guess I did it in a friends body shop so I didn't have to pay for any surplus. Mixing paint in house is always the way to go too cause you can mix any color in the world without paying anywhere near 350/gal.
poniesviii May 16th, 2006, 05:10 PM I ran across a couple things, man I guess paint can get pretty expensive afterall! Lol I got way lucky at my shop I guess. :D

yea, my wife said I can only keep one, so the 98 is getting the stereo, but we are changing a few things around. Should be sweet. Where is the LVC central meeting going to be held and when? I should be there, hopefully with the completed system in it.

Brozly May 26th, 2006, 09:35 AM That's a tough question, it seems like everytime I see a mechanic is ~$1000...
I bought it from my Son last August for $1500, took it in for new balljoints, then a lower control arm and alingment,... (seems like a couple others in there).
I smucked a lamppost in March, had the body shop fix some rust around the Moonroof, so along with the $500 deductible, cost me a Grand...
30,000 miles @~26 mpg @~ $2.75/gal.
That must be about 10 changes of oil @ 6qts. Mobile1 @~$6/qt.
Now I need brakes, (thought I could get by Cheap,(they had the Ceramic pads for ~$100, Semi @~$50, or the Sure Stop pads for $20..., I tried them,... good for about three weeks, and a nasty black wheel.)
At the moment I figure, new rotors/pads, new front air struts, and a torque converter...

Starts and runs great! I'm still waiting for this car to have a major problem. I've had it for over 2 years, driving to work daily in L.A.
Of course the Rear Air bag leaks. I just re-start it. I'm seriously considering a conversion kit to remove the air suspension. Any recommendations as to which one and where to have it done?
Thanks.

The_purple_lincoln_slayer January 28th, 2008, 08:49 PM Well 9 months ago i traded my 96 merc grand marquis, that i inherited, for a 94 rose mist with 154000 miles AND a 1996 thats some faded blue color with a beast exhaust with 92000 and a set of burned-to-metal tires. So the cars were free. license plate for rose mist was 104$ Plugs were 20$ the some 6$ blue apc bulbs for under the dash and doors and 20$ fog lights. Then my tranny went. So the 96 came from "yard retirement". so far ive spent no money on it. Not even a plate yet. So around 150$.

For comparison I had $7500 into my 2000 Grand Marquis when it was hit, recovered $5500 in insurance check. Hindsight being 20/20, for the Mark I think I overpaid on the amp and on the car. Im going to overhaul the whole sound system this summer. Luckily most of the rest of the stuff the car needs now only require time and elbow grease, not cash. I'm still debating wether the air suspension stuff needs to be replaced yet, and what to replace it with.
http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/vbpgimage.php?do=full&p=8628&d=1205868737
For $7k I still feel its a hell of a lot of car and don't regret the purchase.

solja.b February 21st, 2009, 06:18 PM Oh man, It's probably better I didn't know. But through all the modifications, custom work/fabrication, preventative mintenance, and corrective maintenance I'd estimate $25,000 plus the $6,000 for the car I bought in 2003. 1994 Mark VIII was at 103,000mi. Now is 160,000mi.
ssmoparviii February 21st, 2009, 10:13 PM Just bought the car and got a clean bill of health at the shop so...
2500 for the car

MsM8tress February 10th, 2010, 06:37 PM well, I've had 4, the first one I bought in 95, she was the dark blue (ohhh starts with a p?) 94 so the price was around 23,000 - had her for 8 years so you can imagine the repairs and up keep I paid on her.
2nd one 96 LSC Opalescant (sp?) paid about 5g for her, then had to turn around and put about 2 grand in her but then I killed her...we never did bond, but still a nice Mark (couldn't get used to the camel interior and after I clayed her, she looked like a 2000watt light bulb).
3rd one 96 LSC Black, paid around 6g for him, had to put a new trannie in him, new bags, new ..new...new gears (twice), new posi unit (twice) new exhaust, a perf. chip, and regualr maint.
4th one 95 base black - paid 2500 for her and she lives in my pocket too. she is a trooper though, she makes it thru the crappy weather and has to live outside while her significant other gets to stay in the garage when the going gets yechie.
Overall, I'd easily estimate around 70g's in all of em over the last 15yrs- still got the last two and plan on keeping em ;)
Has driller posted in here??? lol I know he has a tidy sum in his too!!
