I am looking through my shop manual, and it says to remove the panel that covers the radiator / grille in the engine compartment i need ""Push Pin "N804570-S5" - I thought that was just held on with tiny screws?

I just left them off after I was done putting everything back together. With the hood down, and the latch locked, that cover won't go anywhere.

did you just pry them up? they look like little screws but when I turn them, they don't "unscrew".

It's a two piece screw. The push-pin goes in the hole, then the screw goes into the push-pin expanding the little feet of the pin outward the further in you turn the screw.

You can pry them out though you may damage them and not be able to use them again if you do (personally I didn't care, I wasn't going to use them again anyway). Try to get the center screw out on it's own first.

There is a special tool for removing those. Depending on who has owned/worked on the car, there may be different versions. One may be a plug with a screw that is installed after the plug is pushed in to lock it in to place.

The other may just be an "X-Mas tree" type plug. Here are the tools I am refering to. I have a complete set at work, and am getting ready to buy another for home.

I am one of those guys that does'nt like to have bolts and fasteners missing on a car. they are there for a reason, and I feel they need to be there. You can get them at almost any parts store, or can even be ordered in bulk on the net.

There is a VERY simple and easy way to remove these push pins....actually 2 VERY simple and easy ways.

1) Take a flat blade screwdriver and pry the pin up from underneath slightly, not hard enuf to pull the pin out, but very slight pressure. Then take either a cordless screwdriver with a phillips head driver, or a regular phillips head screwdriver, and turn what looks like a phillips head screw out like you would a normal screw.

2) Start on the push-pin in the far corner and slightly pry the panel that is being held down near that specific push-pin...again do not pry hard enuf to pull the push-pin out, but just enuf to put pressure on the push-pin. Then take either a cordless screwdriver with a phillips head driver, or a regular phillips head screwdriver, and turn what looks like a phillips head screw out like you would a normal screw.

I have been doing this for YEARS....no need to purchase a $70 tool if you only use it once in a blue moon......sorry Mike...:shifty:
