John Hubertz March 15th, 2006, 06:23 PM ...if you have an extra $35,000 to spend - let's face it... it is a little more car, but is it $35,000 more car?
1995 M Series 850CSi V12, 53,000 miles. Bidding currently in the low 40s....

...and you know what? An average person....especially an average female person, won't even know the difference!
 I think I'll go rub some more love into my Mark VIII.
67Continental March 15th, 2006, 07:27 PM really not a fan of those cars - it was a mistake for bmw, reflected by their poor sales.
JC1994 March 15th, 2006, 07:56 PM If they are giving any away I'll take one...:D
92SedandeVille-TownCar94 March 15th, 2006, 08:19 PM Next best thing to a Mark VIII......Thunderbird SuperCoupe!
John Hubertz March 15th, 2006, 08:21 PM The original invoice price of $109,000 probably affected those sales a smidge.... back in the old days that was a lot of money :)
HyeLifeLS March 15th, 2006, 08:22 PM That's a beautiful car, but I don't know who the hell would put some stupid spoiler like that on a 8 series??
67Continental March 15th, 2006, 08:34 PM probably the factory m spoiler?
02LSE96LSC91SE84TC March 15th, 2006, 08:45 PM I'm no BMW fan, but thats one I definately like. I wouldn't dish out that moola, but thats probably a true classic to a BMW person, of course assuming they already have a Iseda.

That wing missed by a long shot, your right.
John Hubertz March 15th, 2006, 09:39 PM Original M wing - optional on M models only - another neat little feature is the sunroof and the windows on the M's close automatically when you hit 100 MPH....
The other thing I was just thinking about (never safe, that thinking about things) - hell I'm having trouble being comfortable driving my thirty-two HUNDRED dollar car with decent paint etc because I feel a little flashy and worry about vandalism or door dings or crappy weather...... in a way I miss my crappy 98 buick daily driver that I sold retail and basically swapped even up for the Mark VIII..... I'd haul a load of horse turds to the dump in that car without blinking an eye and toss the keys to complete strangers without a second thought - I don't do that with my Mark.
Now, multiply that flash factor by about 150% and the investment by 1100%!!! Good Lord how could you even begin to enjoy that thing? Maybe my Coconuts (cojones) aren't as high on the ol' tree as I thought they were, huh?
(sigh) Sometimes I think I'm getting old....
Frat-man-du March 16th, 2006, 08:31 AM Next best thing to a Mark VIII......Thunderbird SuperCoupe!
Yeapers!:iconcur:
my95mark8 March 16th, 2006, 09:33 AM looks like the illigitimate child of a BMW and a Toyota Supra.

HyeLifeLS March 18th, 2006, 12:17 AM That Russian car is Volga Gaz-21, was produced until 1968 and was replaced with Gaz-24. I think it was made since 1959 or so, I do not remember. It has a 4 cylinder 2.1 liter engine with 75 hp and a manual 3 speed tranny with a shifter from a side of a steering wheel. My grandfather used to have on of these Gaz 21s when they just came out, but then in 73 he replaced it with a new Gaz-24.
I am not sure but the "Russian 8 series" was made for one of the political heads of Russia, his name is Jirinovsky. I am not 100% sure, but that's what I heard.
Here is a picture of the Gaz 24, production started in 1968.
The second picture is photoshopped a little bit.
nasirone March 20th, 2006, 09:41 PM is a buick riviera (supercharged) of course close in perf.
(seen claims of 0-60 right next to mark 8 7.1 )
big luxury coupe and alot closer in price range than and 8 series
except for fwd
67Continental March 20th, 2006, 10:09 PM dude fwd, takes it out of the equation completely.
jsteiner March 20th, 2006, 11:08 PM The next best thing to a mark VIII. There is nothing like a mark viii
Lincolns Own March 21st, 2006, 12:08 AM to be honest... and dont hate... but i've always loved the 8 series and i'd take it over the lincoln anyday. and we should all admit... 1988 honda civics with 200K miles get better resale then our cars :(

lmao your a FART CAN CAR LOVER ...ha ha ha haaaaa....
John Hubertz March 21st, 2006, 12:58 PM The thing I love about the Mark, this forum and the attitude most of us seem to represent is "What is Popular is not always Right, and What is Right is Not Always Popular".
http://www.ratfink.org/images/junkyard.jpg
We're out here driving the pants off of world-class luxury/performance machines for pennies a day while the "followers" are investing boatloads in pulling that last smidge of performance out of FWD rice burners or burying their trust funds in high-end German machines.
The other element is the fact we USE the performance we have - driving like kids even when we're old enough to know better - part of the same "Walk our own Path" attitude that gave us the guts to buy air suspended Marks to begin with.
I'm tempted to buy a couple of the 1994 - 1995 models to simply put away, because 10 years from now we'll look back on these as Golden Days of our car hobbies. I've been buying/driving top line machinery since 1976 and nothing has come close to the thrill I get....from my $3200 car??? Unheard of.
Lincolns Own March 21st, 2006, 01:03 PM ^^ very well said. ^^
and as for me being a fart can lover... it just impresses me that when u go to the strip, its not hard to find a guy who can get 1,200HP+ out of a 4-cyl engine. but dont get me wrong, i love my lincoln and we have great memories. and no honda can slide around corners like my lincoln can. so there for, i'd never trade it for any piece of jap crap.
CobraConti March 21st, 2006, 01:30 PM i love the fwd bias on this board. Fwd isn't that bad everybody. Yes RWD is better in power applications but it's as if you have fwd you can't have any fun which isn't just true. You have to know how to launch a fwd car at the right rpm and torque steer can get bad but you guys make it sound like just because you have fwd you wouldn't even consider the car no matter what, which is fine. A fwd car can be just as fast down the 1/4 as a rwd. My old stock 96 Acura Integra GSR ran a 15.4 bone stock and cornered like a champ all while getting 30 mpg. That car was most dangerous in the twisties with str8aways just long enough to hit 8000 rpm. I laughed at the statement of Hondas not being able to corner. You guys need to research your enemy better. Yea, I love rice.
Flamesuit on!
John Hubertz March 21st, 2006, 02:08 PM LOL All good for me! A bit of healthy competition is always welcome.....
http://www.ratfink.org/rothdecals/1965/shaltdrag.gif
(but I still stand by my claim that REAL men don't spin their FRONT wheels)
67Continental March 21st, 2006, 02:25 PM hehe you are right - fwd means i automatically exclude it from purchasing considerations....
while any car can be as fast as any other car in the 1/4 with enough $$$, fwd versus rwd....well....physics works hard against fwd in all performance scenarios...that
s all i'm saying.
