mespock February 26th, 2006, 09:34 AM On Saturday 2/24/06 my eldest daughter qualified for the indoor track and field nationals NCAA Div. III - in the Distant Medely Relay. If they finish in the top 6 at Nationals she will get "All American" Status. (Right now they are ranked #2).
I am very proud and excited... 2 week until Indoor Nationals and what's great it's in the mid west only 4 hours away. I'll have no problems getting there to watch.
LvC Meet in Northfield MN. LOL...
Biggest fustration comes the following week as my high season begins and my youngest daughter's season starts. I coach the sprinters and I have meets on the days of all of the my oldest daughter's outdoor meets. Except one!
That meet in in St. Louis so I guess there will be an LvC meet in St. Louis on the Weekend of the 1st of April. (No fooling) LOL...
These two girls make the February to June busy and fun!!
Sorry for bragging but got to love the kids!
pepperman February 26th, 2006, 09:39 AM Rich , you have a right to brag, so brag all you want and congrats to your two daughters
mespock February 26th, 2006, 09:49 AM Thanks Pepps, couldn't help it... It's just so much fun watching them both run. A little competitive between them. Luck one's only a Junior in HS and the other a Senior in College. If they would be together on a team they'd kill each other. The youngest especially would be in the face of the oldest. Oldest would kick her butt but, the youngest is the more competitive one. Track if life of death with her. Her goal this year is to qualify for state in 4 events. She'd be the first girl at our HS to have ever done that. The thing is she has a great shot at 2 (200 m and Long Jump), strong shot for 3 (add the 400 m), and could squeak in that 4th the 100 m (not her strongest).

Daughter's Distance Medley Relay finished 2nd at the NCAA Division III National Indoor Track Meet on Saturday!
It was a close race and came very close to taking first.
The Distance Medley Relay first runner runs 1200 meters, 2nd 400 meters (my daughters leg) third runner runs 800 meters, and last runner runs 1600 meters. It's a wild race which puts speed and endurance together in one race.

mespock March 12th, 2006, 05:48 PM The DMR is a very exciting race... hand offs get wild lots of bumping and pushing.. Often wipe outs... especially at this level where the teams are so close in ability..
It was a rush!! My stomach hurt for a few hours after from the excitement. I feel so good for her. She's been nominated for valedictorian of your class. Has carried a 4.0 for a few semesters. This track season has just been icing on the cake for a great college experience.
Full contact Track and Field LOL....

MsM8tress April 4th, 2006, 10:42 PM Sweet Pics on the 3rd Rich - How'd the meet go tonight!?
mespock April 5th, 2006, 11:29 AM I'll post pics as soon as I get them from my youngest daughter who took over 90 pics. (don't worry I won't be posting all of them).
Tuesday's meet - was a very good first outdoor meet for the season. We only have about 10 girls out for our girls team and they only were 10 points way in a triangular meet from the team that should be our toughest confrence opponent this year (they also have 3x's the number of girls out).
Youngest Daugher took 2nd in the 100m, had a bad race in the 400m finished 4th, 2nd in the 4 x 400m relay, and 1st in the Long Jump.
Next meet is a 5 school meet on Thursday followed by the Wisconsin Indoor Track Championship on Saturday. This will be a very big meet and a good chance to compete with very good competition from many division 1 schools. In the past little Boscobel has made a good show at this meet.

mespock May 3rd, 2006, 08:06 AM Just a little update:
Oldest Daughter went to the Drake Relays this past weekend. Anyone who knows track knows the Drake Relays - This is a mix from NCAA I to NCAA III from all over the nation - In order to compete you have to be accepted.
Both Her Distance Medley Relay and 4 x 400m Relay finished 9th which was a good showing for a Division III school.
Youngest Daughter is coming around... We are entering our crunch time with the push for state. Tuesday Night she took 3 first and one second. 1st in the Long Jump finishing a foot longer than her next competitor, 1st in the 100m beating the conference's champ from last year and a state qualifier, and the 4 x 100m relay with the team closing in on what should be a good chance to get to state. She finished 2nd in the 400m leading 7/8th of the race claiming tired legs on the home stretch and just getting edged out. (I did work them very hard the night before which is not what we would do before the large meets coming up).
The next 3 weeks should be as exciting is watching 94m5 (Mike) prepare his car for Carlsile.
barry2952 May 3rd, 2006, 08:28 AM It's great to see parents involved with their kids.
mespock May 3rd, 2006, 08:58 AM I may only have one year left of coaching... When the youngest goes off to College I'll have to make sure that I am free to head to her meets.
I've been trying to explain that track is secondary not primary when you go on to school. But she's deturmined that track is primary so her choice of college will have to have a track team.
It's upsetting her mother! I'm trying to be no bias but what would you expect from a track coach.... Plus the colleges she's thinking about are closer to me.
MsM8tress May 3rd, 2006, 05:16 PM It's great to see parents involved with their kids.
lololol Heather is the only parent in that house! lololol Rich is just a big kid! lolol....jk Rich ;)

Rich, i agree Track should be secondary, a good college education is priceless and should be the primary goal of attending college. both daughters are doing good so far tell them pepps said, keep up the good work.

Long Jump, 4 x 100m Relay, and 200m. Just missed out in the 100m.
Our Girls team placed 7th out of 37 team. We only have 9 girls on the track team.
02LSE96LSC91SE84TC May 26th, 2006, 12:16 AM Congrats. Good Luck!
My son took 1st in the 400m and 2nd in some relay race this week. Just a 8th grade little meet thing. Pretty cool thou, he was very proud of how he just paced the runners and when he turned it on, no one had any left. When he took 1st in his relay he was confident, but not over confident. In the final race he ran his race and kicked some butt.
mespock May 26th, 2006, 07:31 AM Congrats. Good Luck!
My son took 1st in the 400m and 2nd in some relay race this week.
That's great... Tell him to keep it up. Track is a sport where you use your own physical ability with no ball to carry, hit, kick, or dribble. It's your body's own strength, speed, and endurance... It's you and what you have.
I love watching the 400m races. Those who do it are insane and have something to be really proud about. On our team we have athletes who fear event day when we announce who's running what at meets. There are a few my daughter one who love hearing 400m. Most give a big groan and then 50,000,000 excused why they shouldn't. But usually after they are done they are proud of their accomplishment. They always come running over to tell their official time and excited, but when I ask so you enjoyed that... I get oh no, never again please..LOL....
I can't wait for next weekend. The state meet is so wild. Watching the athletes as they walk onto the track is so moving, the stand in awe for a bit then get so excited being there with the State's Best then realizing that they are one of them (the reality usually doesn't sink in right away).
Hope everyone has fun at Carlisle! I'd love to be there but watching you son/daughter run in the state meet is priceless. Wouldn't even trade it for 94m5's Mark VIII, not even Geno's Super Mark...
pepperman May 26th, 2006, 07:51 AM Good luck at the State track meet Rich, and good luck to your daughter also.
Cbecker1994Vlll May 27th, 2006, 09:56 AM congrats to your daughters and to yourself rich.

mespock June 11th, 2006, 12:10 PM I'm just now catching up on some of the news, Rich. Great pics, fantastic achievements, proud parents! Congrats don't seem like enough, I know you’re on top of the world! I feel a little pride you are sharing this with us, its great to see them doing so well.
PS; that pic of her kissing the medal with a gleam in her eye is killer, man!
I have one picture left to post but I don't have the picture yet. That's the one of her standing on the medal stand at the state meet.
Her goal was to get to state this year after just missing out her Freshman and Sophomore years In Division II. This year our enrollment was down and we go dropped down to Division III (wish is not necessarily easier, just a little less completion. Here dream was to stand on the podium buy her Senior year. Well she made both. Next year the monkey is off the back and maybe a chance to stand on the podium for more events
Cassie now hold 5 school records the most by any athlete in our school both boys and girls. She tied the school record for taking events to state for a girl, the most you can take is 4 she took 3.
Now it's time for a short rest and then back to hitting the weights for the summer and going to a few track camps. (Just FYI, I do not push her as many parents do. Everything she does is on her time and at her request. I don't live my life through hers. I had my time in HS and it was fun. Now it's a rush to watch her have her fun). If she would choose to quit then so be it. But right now her hardest decision is what college to go to. She's been courted all year by a few area colleges and universities. Can't wait for the trips to visit those places. My favorite is Washington University in St. Louis but I think she feels that one is too far away.
Oh by the way.. Oldest Daughter now holds 2 records at the University of Wisconsin Platteville. Can't wait to take a pic of her name on the record board.
Thanks all for your comments this spring, hope you didn't my my boast but damn it was a fun year.
So until next Winter when the College indoor invites begin.
