Power steering out

So last night I get in my car and take off, with no power steering. I look at where I'm parked and there is a lot of fluid on the ground. I drove to the gas station and threw some power steering fluid in there, but still no power steering. So tomorrow I'm going to have a look at the pump, rack, etc. I was just wondering if anyone had any pointers for me to look out for. BTW, I had a new rack and pinion installed about 3 weeks ago with no problems until now. Is it OK for me to drive the car without the power steering working?? I have classes that I need to make if I don't get it fixed in time.

Probably blew a line somewhere.

The PS pump will burn up quickly w/o oil.

Not a good idea to even run the engine without fluid in the pump. Either the pump went out when it ran dry or there is not enough fluid and/or too much air for the system ton work after you added fluid.

I would suspect a line blew to loose that much so quick. Maybe you are lucky and the mechanics forgot to fully tighten a line.

since it was worked on so recently, i too would suspect something was out of adjustment / loose, and that's what caused your fluid leak.

Yeah I jacked up the front end and threw some more fluid in there. It seems to be leaking from right above the rack. Pretty much under the oil filter. It looks like one of the connections on the hoses right there, but I can't even get to the damn thing. I'm probably just gonna take it back to the mechanic that changed the rack and make him fix it.
