Painted b-pillars

I finally got around to painting the b-pillars (3 out of 4). I took them off the car on Sunday, pain in the a$$ to get the backs off. Had to take the back windows out to get the b-pillars off. The one that is not painted has a dent in it and needs a little body work this weekend.

I also installed a 6000K HID kit today. Love it! I will never go back to regular halogens. I post some pics of that later.

Wow! Those look great!!! I'd like to see the step by step for removing the b-pillar trim pieces... if you get a chance, write that one up. I took the easy route and covered mine with carbon fiber vinyl... still looks good after 1 year.

Had a slight problem with the paint, used a clear coat that has a kind of yellowish tint to it for some reason (who knows what it was). I put them on and they didn't match very well. I had enough paint to sand one down and do it again with a different clear coat. Much better match. I ended up having to order more base coat to finish the other 3 b-pillars. I will have those inst. for you soon hopefully.

looks cool but now you need to find a way to get the back window pillar to match as well

How to:

Roll the window all the way down and pull up on the window trim.
14849
Once the trim is up, slide it towards the front of the car to remove from the door.
14850
Remove the door panel.
14845
Remove the cover, just peels off and sticks back on.
14846
Remove the 3 black nuts that hold the window motor to the door. I would have circled them but I'm not able to.
14847
Remove the 4 gold bolts that hold the inner door frame to the door. You can now separate the door frame from the window motor/window and lower it into the door.
14858
Pull the weather stripping from the window channel, just enough to get a phillips screw driver in a remove the 3 screws.
14851
14852
Reverse the proses to put it back together.

The fronts are much easier.
Roll down the window.
Remove the trim.
Pull the weather stripping.
Remove the 3 screws.
Pull the b-pillar off.

the instructions were great.. but i dont get why u need to open up the door panel for? after u get to the door panel u go back to taking off the weather strip and the 3 screws.. so im assuming u need to take off the door panel to get to the weather striping?

howd you get your rear windows to roll all the way down??

01lssport
February 26th, 2006, 09:13 AM
The windows don't roll all the way down. I had to take the door panel off to take apart the inner door which allows the window to drop down into the door.
I took pictures when I was putting it back together.

Question.... What did u use to paint those? or did u get them professionally done at a body shop cause that looks really great.... Ken i got a question... would you be willing to paint the pillars that are on your website for price...? i know you have black carbon fiber and chrome but can you get another color for them?

I painted them myself. Ordered the paint from http://www.paintscratch.com
The best paint work i've so far, mastered the 1000 grit wetsand and polish!

The black eyebrows and b-pillars can be painted. However, it is taking so long to get stuff back from the painter it is ridiculous. He had knee surgery a couple of weeks ago and he hasn't even painted anything for me. I don't know when he'll be back up an running.

Tyler, great How To. Looks good!

did you just use the paint or did you use clear coat over that paint?

You have to have the clear to make it shiny.

Some darker black tint would really blend that in, but it really looks nice.

February 26th, 2006, 05:51 PM
ya.. it could be the reflection.. but a nice dark tint wouldnt even let that lil pillar in the back show at all.. making it all look like one peice..

The windows are dark. I have the Lumar Platinum Plus 35% on all the windows, then on the back three I have 5% over the Platinum Plus.
When the sun is out it tends to show a lot of reflections.

Thats nice, is that window all the way into the door? I ask cause I thought it could go all the way down if the motor let it but someone contested to that...hahahaha!

As a matter of fact now that I think about it, it went all the way down one of the times my motor went.

I like the look of that painted pillar!

Nice job o1lssport of photo documentation. I’m sure everyone will reference it for years to come.

Very very nice looking. It's how they should have come from the factory if you ask me. It looks to busy with non tinted windows and the gaping black pillar. I prefer a dark window tin to make the whole top look like a solid black mass. But this method looks really good too.

Is there not a way to order OEM paint and clear coat?

i'm looking into replacing a few of mine as they are dented significantly (how, i dont know) and was looking at previous posts:

http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=35871&highlight=b+pillar

GaryGhost says that LSK sells the replacements (not just the overlays) but i couldnt find them on the website. Does anyone know if LSK still sells them and if now where i could get them from? Thanks.

im not sure if im quite ready to drop the cash for a set of new ones. Im going to try and find some from a junk-yard and get all of them repainted. But if i decide to go for some new ones, i'll be sure to get them from LSK. Thanks, you're always helpful.
