Chapter Leaders

Joeychgo
August 31st, 2004, 08:18 PM
Who wants to lead this chapter?

Id like to see a president and a vp.

Basically you'll be helping me set up the chapter, how things should work, etc.

VOlunteers? Nominations?

mespock

With as many members that we have in the Midwest and close to the Chicago area I guess I wouldn't be much help as a Leader living 3+hrs away.

But I would like to be able to help set up meets or I am always full of Ideas.

So count me in somehow.

Jibit

I'd like to help as much as I can but I'm really swamped with personal issues right now so let me know what I can do.

mespock
September 1st, 2004, 08:31 PM
What would be the requirements or role of the lead -

This might help get someone to jump in. The one thing the Leader will know is he has lots of support from the Midwest as this is one great group of Lincoln and Caddy owners.

Joeychgo

Well, I dont know exactly......... This is all new.........

Maybe it would be better for me to ask you all what the job should entail..... What kind of things should the chapter leaders do?

CaptainZilog
September 2nd, 2004, 12:06 AM
Well, first off we should have a monthly or bi-monthly meeting. Nothing all stupid and mandatory like some crazy secret society, but like a breakfast/lunch where we all meet up like the third saturday of every month at a standard place to figure out shows, track times, and of course, drink like fish. What would be great is setting up track times where we could get in for cheap, and run our cars. I know a lot of Mustang clubs do that.

Joeychgo
September 2nd, 2004, 12:16 AM
Thats not necessarily a bad idea -- doesnt old school do something like that?

CaptainZilog
September 2nd, 2004, 12:46 AM
Something similar, yes. There would be time set aside to see what the plans are for the month, people would bring in fliers for shows they saw, or just if they know where they're at, etc...

Joeychgo
September 2nd, 2004, 01:12 AM
One thing I think the chapter leaders should do is arrange for local membership advertising.. For example, getting the chapter members to place business cards in local detail shops -- thats something only people local can do..........

Part of my plan is to eventually hold contests between chapters - such as most New members in a month --- with a prize, etc etc........

Jibit
September 2nd, 2004, 10:57 AM
I won't mind stepping up to the plate if you guys don't mind a person with a bad temper and an attitude to back it up. I personally don't think that's what the club needs but it seems like most of you are just sitting by the side waiting for things to happen instead of making them happen. Well, I won't stand for things like that because if you want a club you have to be able to contribute to it. Even if its just supporting the group at events. None of the crap where we set a date for an event and everybody wants to come but day by day as the date gets closer people keep coming up with lame excuses on why they can't show up......Sorry, I guess I'm just venting on the subject.

Joeychgo
September 2nd, 2004, 11:14 AM
yeah but to some extent thats the attitude thats needed..........

waiting for things to happen instead of making them happen

Jibit
September 2nd, 2004, 11:19 AM
yeah but to some extent thats the attitude thats needed..........
But at the same time I'm not afraid to tell someone exactly how I feel about them. In situations like that I'm capable of making enemies and destroying the whole chapter, but hell, if its attitued you want I have plenty to spread!!!

Joeychgo
September 2nd, 2004, 11:21 AM
point was that we need a few people who will make things happen and get things done

mespock
September 2nd, 2004, 11:22 AM
I'd like to do it but I am 3+ hours away from the largest part of the group.

Once a month would be too much for me but once every two months would be easier for me to do.

I do want to be involved, but do to my distance I am not sure what I can do.

If we could move meetings to Milwaukee or Rockford or a bit closer it would be easier for me.

Jibit
September 2nd, 2004, 11:32 AM
Well Joey, looks like you have two people willing to give it a try!!!

Joeychgo
September 2nd, 2004, 11:50 AM
Well - there is more to do then just meet in person mespock. For example, when new members join, someone should be contacting them offering them to Join the Chapter..... (Im in the process of being able to seperate new registrations by state) - there is also alot of cheerleading on the site to do getting people to show up at meets, welping with the chapter website (im working on that for the Midwest now), etc......

Also, once we have all the chapters set its also my plan for the leaders of each chapter to sit on an advisory board for the whole site, kinda like a board of directors.

The basic idea in my head is that the chapters run like mini clubs - drawing members, organizing events, etc.

CaptainZilog
September 2nd, 2004, 01:53 PM
That's why we all get together for a breakfast somewhere and talk about what to do. We'll meet in person, see who's got the real personality to do this, and go for it.

Joeychgo
September 2nd, 2004, 01:58 PM
Oh, im all for the monthly breakfasts........ But those are something everyone cant attend ---

WHat should a chapter accomplish in all of your opinions? I have a good start - but want to hear from you guys.

Jibit

Oh, im all for the monthly breakfasts
Mmmmmmmmm Fooooooooooooooood!!!

All I'm going to say is that all of this don't mean squat if people aren't willing to come out and participate.

Let me ask you guys something. How many people are part of the Midwest?
Now, how many people showed up on Saturday? I think I can count a total of 10 cars (8 in the pictures) and 8 actual members. What kind of turnout is that?

Joeychgo

True - but people also have to be encouraged........... Some people have to come from a distance and wont make many meets.

Unfortunately, I dont know how many are in the midwest as many people didnt complete the LOCATION part of their profile. I am in the process of rectifying that now so that new members HAVE to choose the state they live in, just for the purpose.

Joeychgo
September 2nd, 2004, 02:44 PM
as far as how many are in the midwest - I can search and get some results....... There are about 50 in IL alone.........

One job of the chapter leaders would be to try to get these people active on the site and active in the chapter.......... Alot of emails probably over 100 jsut for our chapter.......... We would want to get these people posting on the site now and then, coming to meets, etc.

Its too much for me to do the whole country like this, so I need to rely on chapter leaders to try to keep people active both on the site and comig to meets, etc.... Plus I think it would be more effective to have people more local

Jibit
September 2nd, 2004, 02:45 PM
True - but people also have to be encouraged...........
Are you telling me that coming to meet with a bunch of great people isn't encouraging? Maybe not, but don't say you're going to show up and then don't and don't even notify anyone that you're not.

How do you go about encouraging people to come out to a meet? Its nothing more than getting together with people of the same interest.

I would only expect people that had to travel great distances to show up to one or two meets.

You can't tell me that we don't have more local people. Even so, Bryan and Rich drove 3-4 hours to get here that night and then they drove back!

CaptainZilog
September 2nd, 2004, 03:01 PM
You gotta make sure people don't feel all shiatty about not going though... Then they won't want to come ever.

Joeychgo
September 2nd, 2004, 03:12 PM
No, I understand what your saying Dave - IM saying people sometimes have to be encouraged to participate. Once they do participate, then they will probably continue to do so......... Maybe with gentle nudging along the way.

Why is this important? Beyond the obvious reaons, One reason is that the more people that are involved, the more I can do as benefits. For example. If we routinely had 30-40 people showing up at meets, I could have Meguires stop at a meet and give us all a lesson in detailing our cars, providing free samples to everyone, etc. They wont do that for 10 people.

I do believe a chapter president should organize a mandatory meet every 3 weeks to keep new ideas and events flowing. It is very good having a chapter leader to have an Attitude and have that bad a$$ reputation, but as a leader I believe one needs to be calm yet know when to take action. One that listens and takes others ideas to become fulfilled. We don't want a leader to become too hostile or have a bad mouth when someone stresses an opinion that they insist will work... But one that knows how to take action with a kind way of words instead of a pair of fists. That type of member will for sure be applying for a spot in the LVC Mafia...
As the leader, they will be open to all opinions the chapters members have to offer and organize a fun line of events that can either deal our rides, or just be for our own pleasure. Much like going to Autoshows in the winter, LVC Paintball meet, and other events. Those are just examples. Of course accessories for chapter members, such as shirts, caps, decals... etc. We can do LVC cruise nights to visit different car shows and of course this would be all organized and brought up to the members by the chapter leader and VP.

I am one of the younger members, along with a FEW other, but I do believe I have the creativity and reliability to make these meets happen. Of course I didn't make the last meet, due to rain. I believe a spot of VP would be good for me. Thanks for your time guys. :ban

Those are justy a few points I wanted to make. let's see where it goes from here.

I do believe my uncle owns a dyno at his place in Chicago. I will look further into trying and making this happen for sure. He also is the maker of "Z MAX" which is a engine treatment that cleans and claims to a few more HP. He used to be real busy in his shop, owning two IRL race cars that were raced a few years ago. So he shouldn't be all that busy one weekend. I'll see what he can do for me and also on the Z Max.

I'll nominate Stra Dog for Midwest Chapter President and Mespock for V.P.

I am sure it would be appropriate to have lots of member input on these issues. Therefore Joey needs to identify the Midwest members and contact each of them, many who may not have visited the site recently and take their temperature.

I would love to help out in any way I can. I like the idea of the monthly meeting, however I do see the point about people not being able to come. Getting out name spread around should not be that hard for locals to do. I own my own business and all of my advertising is free. I just went out and did some PR and it has worked out pretty well since then. Plus I am in college as well, and that is an un tapped resource. I know I am kind of old to be in college :eek2: but hey....So count me in for whatever you may need I would be more then willing to sit on the board or do whatever it takes to help. This is a great site and I think that more people should know about it. Once they do and our name is out there it wil happen. I never knew about this site until I went to this car web page and your link was there... :L

Hey Joey, how about including links to the members photo garage. Is that possible?

Then we could add pictures of the members to identify them and include a little background.

Jibit and Mespock, I agree, they should be the chapter pres and VP. I have'nt been here in a while, but since the summers over I have more time on my hands I would like to help in any way that I can for the site. Also I would like to know when these monthly meets are and where they will be. all of this looks good, I was thinking maybe we can get a LM Dealer and a Cadillac dealer to send us news about new models and invite us to the dealer to test drive new models and check them out I know the LCOC does this maybe we should too. :V

Conti94

Melrose/M & M Lincoln Mercury is right near me, I bet they would like the idea, as for a Cadillac dealer I don't know of one. :steering What does everyone think of this idea? :feedback :monkey: I think it would be cool if we all went to a dealer to test drive the new models that are released.

I think its a great idea. I've been going to a mercedes event 3 years in a row that allows people to test drive their vehicles on a course. Basically they wet part of the pavement down so you can see the handling in rain and then they make a lot of areas that you have to stop hard and turn. Last time I was their they had professional drivers giving rides in the AMG's. That was fun, especially when you go so hard into a turn the back end start to fish tail and the tires are screeching all the way through!

I dont' know if Lincoln/Cadillac would have much of a following for something like that since they are more luxury based than performance. I'll have to check a couple of dealerships and ask.

Joeychgo
September 9th, 2004, 04:56 PM
Im working on several things --- just not having quick success... :)

My current thoughts:

I do plan to have a local links section for links that only belong in that particular area, such as a detail shop, with part of the proceeds going into an account for chapter events. The Clickable ads by google will be set up the same way, so if you click the google ads on the midwest chapter - part of the proceeds will be used for chapter stuff.

I also am trying to get a block with an automatically updated listing of members who have subscribed to the chapter.

I opted NOT to place members pics on the main page because of the size it would take up considering how many members there are and will be. (remember it'll get alot bigger)

What other features do you guys think the should Chapter Homepage have?

Help me out a little guys -- IDEAS!!!!!!!

I like the members profile. It will help recognizing members when they look lost -

Once we agree on the member leadership we can work on some of the details of what we need.

Local services who will offer discounts to members would also be a good thing for the Chapter sections.

So whats the first order of business Mr. President.I can see it already Dave singing hail to the chief to himself:bow:
There always has to be one in the bunch!

Actually, one of my biggest concerns is participation. I think the meets will start out small but as more people become active the meets will actually have more content to them.

What I'd like to do is start going to car shows (obviously next year) to show people what we're all about. Then we may be able to get things donated to the club or discounted; like detailing things for the car.

I was thinking that we could almost be like free advertisement for products/companies as long as they provide the product and demonstrate (at a gathering) how to use it correctly.

This won't happen unless we get participation.

Over the winter it would be nice to help fellow members get their rides ready for the sping. We could really build up the tech section while we're doing this. What do you guys think?:feedback

Conti94
September 10th, 2004, 09:30 AM
That is a great idea I think that letting them know that the advertising is free is what will get them to go with these ideas, I will be going to the M&M dealer this weekend and see what they think about letting us test drive newly released vehicles, we can even put up front page articles on how well the car drives, feels and handles. Man it would be great to have parts places showing demonstrations at our meet. :dancefool

Congrats to the pres and VP. :Beer Lets have a party :dj:

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

And, we could start by going to the Chicago Car Show in Feb.

What will work in re the suppliers, is numbers. If we have a summer BBQ and can get 100 people+ families to show, I can promise you manufacturers/distributers will be interested....

One thing I suggested a long time ago, is that in the spring, we hook up with a detailer, and see if we can get a group rate at a meet to get all our cars done in one day - washed, waxed, etc.
