Hazard freaking out

I went to use my hazards today and they didn't work. Right after I turned them off I went to use my turn signals and they stopped working. Now, that was the first time I went to use my hazards. The signals were working fine for two weeks without any problems. Back to the problem, the light markers on the outside stay on when I use the turn signals. The inside signals do not turn on at all.
So now, when I go to use my my left or right signal the lights outside the car light up steady (don't blink)but not in side at all.
Where can my problem be?

Welcome...

1st guess... multifunction switch... I don't think its too expensive... contains all sorts of stuff in it.. hazards, turn sigs, wiper functions, high/low beam....

I have to agree. When those things go out all sorts of wierd things happen. It happened on our Mercury. The windshield wipers would not shut off. The heazard malfunction you describe sure fits the bill.

It would help to state that it's a 1997 and everything else is working fine.

There are pins inside of the switch that slowly become "bent" out of shape. This happened on my 98. I too the switch out, took it apart, rebent the pins and it fixed the problem.

I own a 97 yes this is a problem most likely due to your Multi Switch. I think they're around 100 to change but don't quote me on that

Boy is this site great or what, I noticed at the bottom of the page "similar posts". So I took a gander and found a possible solution that worked like a charm.
I found out that dust collects in the hazard switch and it gets into the contacts. The solution is to spray WD40 into the switch. Fixed!
