91lincTownEx August 22nd, 2004, 06:53 PM Ok when I hit the gas at around 30 to 40 mph my engine makes a whining noise but stops when I let off the gas or goes away after a few seconds. What is this? Also is there anyway a can mess with the stock amp? Like say add a sub to it? Thanks for youre help.
Sifrino3 August 22nd, 2004, 07:03 PM It could be the belt. I like your "Thread Topic!"

Thanks!
Sifrino3 August 22nd, 2004, 07:43 PM I dunno how you can tell. I jest remember a family car had that same problem and it turned out to be the belt. How old is your belt?

I dont know just bought it 2 weeks ago no papers.
Sifrino3 August 22nd, 2004, 08:50 PM It doesn't hurt to go ahead and buy a new belt then. It should be on your list after you buy a car. Along with spark wires and plugs, etc.

Pick one up at the auto parts store and look at the diagram under the hood on how to replace it. Pretty easy to do.
91lincTownEx August 23rd, 2004, 11:28 AM Will do. Thanks!
Pepsi2185 August 23rd, 2004, 08:54 PM If you punch the gas at idle does it do it? How about with all of the elctronics on (rear defroster, radio, lights, wipers, etc), A/C and wheel turning at idle? It also could be a belt that just worn in. Just an idea. Thought i would add to the list. Is it a whining or a squealing.
Yes there is a way to add to a stock system. The only problem is that it will pick up that distortion that the stereo is putting out and amplify it further. But the positive side is that bass distortion is not as bad as full sound distortion. You will need a line output converter to convert from the high levels at the back speakers to low lever rcs signal input for the amplifier.
Pepsi2185 August 23rd, 2004, 10:36 PM Actually that sounds bad, not punch, but rev it up a little.
91lincTownEx August 24th, 2004, 09:14 AM I guess its more of a squel. I dont think it does it when I rev it up. And I havent tried it with all the electronics on. Will try thought. Also my brakes need changing where can I get the special tool to compress the caliper piston? At a local auto store?
Thanks!
thamarkman October 19th, 2004, 10:44 PM the special tool to press down the caliper piston is called a C clamp and yes you can get it at any auto parts store.
caddyshack17901 October 25th, 2004, 08:15 PM Not your belt or your brakes. It's your transmission. My 85 Crown Victoria did the same thing. It isn't a serious problem, but you can fix it.

I was told there was a special tool to spin down the piston. I know what a C clamp is dip:q:q:q:q.

What is the problem? How easily can it be fixed?
caddyshack17901 October 27th, 2004, 02:20 AM i'm not quite sure what it is, my mechanic didn't exactly tell me, but i think it may be the overdrive switch or a spedometer cable problem. it stopped after i replaced my speedometer cable, so i think that may be it, but i'm not sure. i would try it, because it annoyed the hell out of me.
