alexchern75 January 18th, 2006, 06:48 PM I have a 2000LS and I have been noticing that when I pop the trunk (remote/button/or key) I still have to pull hard on the trunk lid to open it. It doesn’t just pop up like it used to. It seems to stick. I have cleaned all of the seals around the trunk and I still have the same problem… does anyone know why this may be happening or how to fix it?
beaups January 18th, 2006, 07:02 PM I have that problem too. I think some silicone on the seals would resolve.
infamous amos January 18th, 2006, 07:05 PM I had the same prob... the gasket near the latch had separated from the metal edge it was siliconed to at the factory. Just pick up some silicone and re-glue it... only thing.. let it cure. The first time I did it, came right back off the first time I closed the trunk. I had to let it sit all night with the lid open and now its like butter on your breakfast toast.
mergner26 January 18th, 2006, 07:05 PM i have it too....it starts to get annoying like today when i forgot i popped it untill i was driving and saw the trunk go flying up
alexchern75 January 18th, 2006, 07:11 PM Ok I'll go out in a few minutes and check, I hope the solution is as easy as that since this week I just paid $2775.00 to have the tranny rebuild...this will just be another project for this weekend since I need to cooke and reseal my left head light that I should have done when I did my right one...small price to pay to drive one of the nicest looking cars around.
beaups January 18th, 2006, 07:20 PM 2775 for a tranny rebuild????
alexchern75 January 18th, 2006, 07:23 PM yes, I went to jiffy lube and they put the wrong fluid in it, reflushed it, and the car shortly after that began to slip, and kick...I went to AMMCO and they found burned fluid (glased?) metal damage, and a whole laundry list of stuff wrong with it. so they did a full rebuild. I'm going back to Jiffy Lube this weekend to talk to them about some sort of compensation. either way the car drives beautifully now but my wallet hurts...
alexchern75 January 18th, 2006, 08:29 PM I just went to check the trunk again and I didnt see any problems with the seals, I did however push down hard on the plastic panel that surrounds the latching mechanism and it made a snapping sound. I believe it had snaped slightly out of alignment which caused the latch to bind and kept it from popping up...long stoty short, the trunk is poping up as it should, score!
tylers65 January 18th, 2006, 09:09 PM Mine too.
Some times it pops open as it should. Other times it sticks. Not that big a deal to me, just annoying.
2001LS8Sport January 19th, 2006, 10:04 AM yes, I went to jiffy lube and they put the wrong fluid in it, reflushed it, and the car shortly after that began to slip, and kick...I went to AMMCO and they found burned fluid (glased?) metal damage, and a whole laundry list of stuff wrong with it. so they did a full rebuild. How long after???? If it was a reasonable time, I wouldn't talk about "some sort of compensation", I would fully expect them to foot the bill. People make mistakes, it's how you take care of them that separates the good from the bad. If they don't take care of the entire bill, take it up the ladder and inform them that it's their choice....they can pay the bill, or they can handle it with your attorney and they can pay his bill too. You can also look into small claims court in your state. That may be under the limit.
Of course, all of this is assuming you have documentation or witnesses that they put in the wrong fluid....
ke4unr January 19th, 2006, 10:40 AM The trunk on my '04 was doing the same thing. I was able to take it to the dealer for warranty work. It works fine now. Wish I could tell you what they did. There was no part number listed on the invoice, so my guess is there is some way to adjust/align the latch, catch or both.
If you can't fix it and don't want to pay the dealer service dept., you might find a body shop willing to adjust it for a reasonable charge.
LennDawg January 19th, 2006, 01:54 PM i have it too....it starts to get annoying like today when i forgot i popped it untill i was driving and saw the trunk go flying up
hahahahah that happened to me once too, cause my trunk sticks as well... it doesnt bother me much except for when crap like you said happens and i have to pull over feelin all embarrassed and shut my trunk lol
LsCrazed January 19th, 2006, 06:10 PM A while back my trunk was sticking also. All I did was turn the little rubber bumpers on the trunk out a turn or two. Works like a charm now.
