Did new weatherstrip solve the problem? Where did the leak come from? :( I did-but it turned out that the auto trunk pull down was not operating properly 5.7sbc January 18th, 2006, 10:33 AM Ok, I'm getting a little anoyed . . . I can't find where my trunk is leaking from! The water is collecting in the spare tire well and none of the trunk linning is wet. This is very frustrating. Everything appears to be sealed up properly . . . has anyone run into this? Jim Henderson January 18th, 2006, 10:51 AM Couple ideas. 1) Have a trustworthy friend help you on this one. Get in the trunk with a flash light. Have the trunk lid closed and have your friend spray the area around the trunk with a garden hose. With the flashlight look around at all the seams etc. Sometimes you can detect where the leak is coming from this way. Then, if your friend truly is trustworthy, ask him/her to open the trunk and let you out. 2) Pull the carpeting and any junk out of the bed of the trunk and the well. Look around for water stains and or open holes. Also check if there are any rubber plugs that are missing or loose. Many cars, not sure on the LS, have rubber plugs about 1 inch or so in diameter that allow you to drain fluids or allow access. Good Luck 01lssport January 18th, 2006, 11:40 AM It's coming from the brake lights! Take both of the tail lights out (3 nuts per side). If the tail lights don't have a rubber gasket of some sort on the 3 studs that hold the tail light to the car it will leak. Just find something to seal that up. I bought a couple rubber washers from the local plumbing place (the ones you use in the sink fixtures, the thinner the better) to seal up the leaks. I bought new tail lights (mclarens) and they came with the rubber gaskets. Hope that helps. This kind of leak will only get the spare tire wet, nothing else. I had the problem and just took it into the dealership. No problems now. Midas78 January 19th, 2006, 08:54 AM 1) Have a trustworthy friend help you on this one. Get in the trunk with a flash light. LennDawg January 19th, 2006, 01:51 PM i had this same problem and i figured out that the leaks were coming just behind the taillight on the inside of the trunk... i pulled back the liner in the trunk and sealed both sides, and havnt had a problem since! it seems to be a common problem in the LS because when i was looking at a 2005 at the dealership, i went to check the spare, and it had some water in there like mine did.... weird MiStArEdX May 29th, 2007, 07:31 PM Did you fix you problem 5.7sbc ? I had the same problem when I bought my 2000. I took it to the dealer twice for the same problem. First they said it was the vents underneath the bumper and replaced both at no charge. Then when I was still getting water in the trunk, I did the flash light procedure found the water was coming in throught the weather striping at the top of either side of the trunk closest to the tail lights. The weather striping is the weakest there and if you've seen a new one you'll know what I'm talking about. gt95coupe July 29th, 2007, 11:16 AM I just noticed my car is getting water as well. Could someone post how they actually fixed this problem and not just what they "think" it might be. thanks in advance SoonerLS July 29th, 2007, 10:29 PM If you have a moonroof, there are two drain lines (one on either side) that run down the C-pillars and through the space between the quarter panels and the trunk liner (at least there are on my '06). They should be going to drain fittings that come out behind the rear bumper cover. Check them and make sure they're still connected to the drain fittings. Also, check the hole where the battery vent tube exits the vehicle... gt95coupe July 30th, 2007, 12:17 AM If you have a moonroof, there are two drain lines (one on either side) that run down the C-pillars and through the space between the quarter panels and the trunk liner (at least there are on my '06). If its the tails should I get some black silicone around the studs let it harden then install the lights again or what? Eliot_Ness_Ls July 30th, 2007, 08:46 AM I read that it wont hurt anything but every time I have trouble with my battery I notice what appears to look like mucus, puss like water around the spare tire area. ??????? This car is weird. | ||||
