BlackMark8Li January 11th, 2006, 06:31 PM so I'll start off by saying I lost. so this new 05 gt with blue neon lights underneath the entire car was next to me one this 2 lane road, then he gets in front and we go onto an entrance ramp getting onto a hwy and I was in 3rd with o/d off.. so he takes off and I follow however he TOOK OFF... he got pretty far ahead(really gaining, I'd have to say he was about 20 car lenghts ahead of me and I was floored at 100. we slowed down cause of traffic and a lil bit further up he was still ahead of me and we both took off again at about 60 or so, I stayed up better with him this time, he only gained a few car lenghts before I started to gain on him but I slowed down at 130.. probally would've passed him had we kept on going. idk if he had work done to his car or not but it was faster than I had expected.
JC1994 January 11th, 2006, 07:48 PM I'll bet he was trippin'... like "what the hell"?!?!?! "a Lincoln"????? :D
67Continental January 11th, 2006, 09:12 PM i;ve raced them on the highway, i can't pass them, they always stay ahead of me.
JoeyLincolnMK8 January 12th, 2006, 09:08 AM yeah those neon lights add 50HP to the wheels...lol. yeah there is no way in hell a 05 stang GT can pull away 20 cars on us! do not worry if he went to mustang magic his car is going to probably last 2 weeks before something goes wrong... haha!
tkacenkob January 12th, 2006, 10:14 AM Got smoked by a GT? Like a Mustang or something? At least you were riding in comfort.

Yes but 2 LvC stickes = 100hp

You have to run them through the formula - It and Exponential increase by putting to together.
See you loose a lot of the resistance from the first to the second so there is more power available for from the second one. :slap: It's simple to understand... :slap: You know basic Quantum Physis
hp = (vf - vo)/t

MarkVIII93 January 12th, 2006, 01:53 PM DUDE! You absolutley need to react and take off faster than him, You would most likely pull for a few seconds or stay right with him. Is this somebody you know? If it is do it from a 40, and have either one of you do a beepdown of three. (beep three times)
67Continental January 12th, 2006, 04:51 PM the 05 has 20 more hp and is lighter - why is it surprising that they are faster than we are, stock for stock?
KainDTE January 12th, 2006, 05:00 PM They still using the 4.6's? I heard they went to the 5.4's this year.. atleast for the new saleens anywayz
92SedandeVille-TownCar94 January 12th, 2006, 05:02 PM Your car is like the older, bigger brother to his 'stang
MarkVIII93 January 12th, 2006, 05:03 PM Its not suprising, They are obviously faster.... But how come its a number game with which car is faster? On every car forum? I think that my car could hang with a mustang from a 40 roll. Especially a stock one.
tupacglock January 12th, 2006, 06:43 PM They have a SOHC 3V 4.6L It makes more horsepower (300HP) and more torque (320 ft/lbs) in a lighter weight car. Its not a number game, the cars arent even close. :P
If it was a Mustang GT same year as my Mark VIII(98) itd be a totally different story. (Stock for Stock)
BlackMark8Li January 12th, 2006, 06:59 PM My car is def not stock. I have a bunch of mods done and yet he still handed me my ass, so he I believe had mods done to his car. I can't say for certain since we had just met on the road. and he did get the jump on me both times because I was being yelled at by my g/f and slapped a few times.. ;) specially the first time, he was ahead of me and he got out of the turn first so he accelerated first, which is why he got so far ahead of me. the second time he only gained a few lenghts but even still... with my mods I should be at worst low 14's at best high 13's and isn't the gt a like 14 second flat car? so If he was stock I would've held up with him MUCH better.
You guys would've been able to see my mods had my entire list of mods on my profile not been deleted... I just added a few things however I can't fit my entire list of mods. Thanks to the software update which in my opinion wasn't needed, the profiles were fine just the way they were. There is no need to have to choose what my engine displacement and the rest of the questions ince we all have the same car just about. How about what my transmission type is and only have 3 choices.. so rather than say I have shift kit and a stall, I now have a hybrid?? thats so stupid

98's = The slowest of the lot.
PioneerCrazed January 12th, 2006, 07:26 PM He's saying a race between a 98 Mustang and a 98 Mark would be a different story. Not an 05 though.
Edit: Did you edit your post or am I going crazy... HA
MarkVIII93 January 12th, 2006, 07:28 PM I think I could hang with an auto 05' from a 35-40 mph roll. My car is stock except for exhaust and a shift kit.
PioneerCrazed January 12th, 2006, 07:30 PM Yah, our cars have a mean 35mph shift and go; just as long as your trans can handle it. That's how I blew mine last October, no more whiplash for me. booo
BlackMark8Li January 12th, 2006, 07:31 PM I think I could hang with an auto 05' from a 35-40 mph roll. My car is stock except for exhaust and a shift kit.
I actually forgot to add that part, he had a manual tranny.
MarkVIII93 January 12th, 2006, 08:07 PM Well that changes everyhting, from a dig. But higher speeds.... I dont know. He could keep it in first and punch it....
JoeyLincolnMK8 January 12th, 2006, 08:41 PM 13.6 for the 5 speed 05 stang stock. so giving that guy in the stang with mods... now giving him the benifit of the doubt, at best 13.0-13.2! so i can see about 15 car lengths!
67Continental January 13th, 2006, 11:18 AM Its not suprising, They are obviously faster.... But how come its a number game with which car is faster? On every car forum? I think that my car could hang with a mustang from a 40 roll. Especially a stock one.
for me it's not a numbers game...I have actually raced 05's with my car, more than once, and they are faster than my car.
MarkVIII93 January 13th, 2006, 02:01 PM You cant really say that every and all 05' GT's are identical. Say if you tested four Stick 05 GT's, 1/4 mile times etc. will vary from car to car.
rocket5979 January 13th, 2006, 04:43 PM 98's = The slowest of the lot.
Actually the 96 GT's were best known for being the slowest of the lot. Either way they were both a part of the non-PI headed 4.6 GT's which had crap for power anyways.
rocket5979 January 13th, 2006, 04:53 PM I think I could hang with an auto 05' from a 35-40 mph roll. My car is stock except for exhaust and a shift kit.
Sorry but the auto 05's arent too slow either. You might have a chance against an auto vert 05. Stock manual 05 GT's have been deep deep deep into the 13's with a good driver in total stock form. Add an aftermarket shifter, exhaust, and some good sticky tires with a good driver and you will scrape 12's. They aren't gods gift to musclecars, but they aren't slouches either.

Not meaning to look like I am picking on you but yes you pretty much can. Given the same driver, same configuration of car, and same atmospheric conditon on the same track with a full tank of gas 4 Mustang GT's or any other new car (aka no maintence problems affecting engine) for that matter would post very very very close if not almost identical times as long as all 4 are configured the same, aka auto vs manual or coupe vs vert, Mach 1000 stereo system vs stock. I would say probably within a few hundrendths of a second. Yes there will be tiny little variances in the times because even in that controlled of an environment there will be outside factors, mainly affecting the drivers concentration level.
I would say the best match for your car would be a 99-04 PI headed Mustang GT putting out 260 flywheel. Yes it doesn't have as much power as you but it is lighter as well.
67Continental January 13th, 2006, 05:25 PM my friends slightly modded 00 mustang 5 speed eats me on the highway too :(

By 98's I was referring to mark 8's....Driver inconsistency is ALWAYS a factor.

Ok, sorry for the mixup on the 98 vehicles thing. It seemed that you were still referring to the GT.
You are right, driver inconsistency is always a factor when looking at all aspects, but not in the context that you put it in. Your post made no mention of driver factors being involved, just strict car to car comparison.
Bates93Mark8 January 13th, 2006, 11:27 PM my moms )5 mustang gt dynoed at 330hp with only flowmaster h pipe installed no other mods and im telling you theres not much taht can hang with it. blows my mark away any day of the week at any speed

Is that number STD, SAE? 330 fwhp with only a catback on the 05 is a little extreme let alone if that number is supposed to be rwhp. Not calling you out or anything but it seems that your probably a little mistaken in those numbers. Either that or the tuner blew smoke up someones butt. It does happen.
MarkVIII93 January 14th, 2006, 01:13 PM They have about 305 fwhp STOCK. So you probably just made that up and said the flows and an H-pipe gave you 25 hp. BTW everybody! Mustang GTs only weigh 200-300 lbs less than our marks.
mespock January 14th, 2006, 04:20 PM Why does this sound like the same old thread? I agree depending on the Driver a Mark VIII might stay with a GT Mustang pre 05..
But our Marks were not designed to be Sports Cars with Luxury. They were designed to be Luxury cars with some Sport Car qualities.
With some work they will have some get up and go! Stock they are a very nice car and very very fun to drive but they are not Sport Cars. We just like driving them like they are.
We like them because we can buy the cheap. $3000 can get you a lot of car. We like them because they come with a lot of equipment. We like them because they get great gas mileage for a big car. We like them because they are faster than your average Luxury car and your average car and will spank a lot of ricers with out NOS or Turbos. We like them because they have a V-8 32 valve engine. We like them because they make so many mods for the Mustang that will fit on our cars and we can make them go much faster.
But we have to remember even though we love these cars they still are not greatest car ever made, But it sure feels like it.
MarkVIII93 January 14th, 2006, 09:58 PM The autos feel only a tad bit faster than my car. So I think I could hang with an one pretty easily.

Dude I can only put this one way. Your car is heavier, has less horsepower, less torque, and is backed with a 4 speed auto tranny versus the 5 speed auto they have, and probably doesn't have as good a rear gears as what the GT's have.
Your car is relatively stock so you should be pulling about mid-low 15's in the 1/4 mile. That 05 GT even with the auto will pull high 13's-low 14's alllllll day long. I don't know if you have ever seen how big an actual full second difference in the 1/4 mile looks like, but it isn't close I will tell you that. You have a nice car and it isn't no slouch but at least take the time to realize what it truly can and cannot do. 2005 Mustang GT is out of the question for you unless it is a manual with a really really bad driver, period. Like I said before, a 99-04 Mustang GT would be allot more along your lines.
JoeyLincolnMK8 January 15th, 2006, 11:13 AM just buy a C6 vette, it will slap that 05 GT silly!

had you read anything in my last post, you would find that no where did i "talk crap" about the mark 8. i simply stated a fact. its not the worlds greatest sports car. period. its not near as fast as a cobra, or a vette, or a z28 camaro, or a proche, or a ferrari.. i could go all day long.
oh by the way, im still laughing at your reply.
your ignorance is overwhelming.. because i have a town car you think i obviously think i cant know anything about the mark huh? thats so cute of you. i research cars before i buy them. if i didnt have a monstrous guitar rig to haul to shows every weekend, or if i didnt want a useable backseat, or if i didnt have friends that rode places with me.. yeah, i might have bought a mark. too bad theyre not as good looking as the comparable year sts'.
just how much do you know besides how to turn it on and put make up on while you drive?
im still laughing, seriously.. you must have ignored anything i said 5 or 6 posts back
i know my towncar isnt a sports car, i never claimed it to be. a 4500lb sedan doesnt strike me as sports car material unless its boasting 350 or more hp. but its the car i want. it suits me. fast doesnt sell me on cars.
going by your post i can clearly see you have no intelligence what so ever
but let me appologize.
the mark is the classiest fastest car ever. even if nissans beat them at the track.
sorry im the only person here who thinks that a 14 second car stock isnt the fastest best sports car ever. i consider it an agressive grannymobile.

rocket5979 January 16th, 2006, 04:40 AM Mid to low 15's? Ask Geno about stock marks running mid 14's. The auto's definetly DO NOT feel like high 13 second cars at all. And they definetly arent! My buddy smoked an 05' in his mid 14 second supercharged monte carlo.
I can tell your a newb in the racing scene because you keep mentioning the "feel". It feels like this and it feels like that. Hell if we went off of just what we feel or hear then most people would think my Explorer has 400 horsepower. Point of fact it actually will have 400 rwhp in about 1 week, but that is besides the point. I go off of hard quantified facts not the ass-o-meter. Your stock MKVIII will pull low 15's to high high 14's stock at the very best. The Mustang GT in Auto trim will pull a full second faster. Speaking of which, being that the new gen Mustangs got the 5 speed auto which has a gear spread extremely similar to their manual brethren; the manual doesn't end up being much faster than the auto.
Your buddy probably raced a 2005 V6 Mustang which should be good for mid-low 15's.
Like I said before, GT's aren't that super powerful. Even with 300 hp they are still behind the powercurve when compared to their "actual" competition. Nevertheless things should still be kept in perspective. An 05 GT auto or manual will rape your car, unless a total non-driving idiot is at the wheel.

Nevertheless things should still be kept in perspective. An 05 GT auto or manual will rape your car, unless a total non-driving idiot is at the wheel.
dont say that, lscgoddess will have to come in and reply to you telling you that drive an ls, you have no clue what a mark will do and that youre a moron and she cant believe you said that. then shell check your photo garage and laugh and tell you you are driving a grandpa car.
trust me.
98LSC32V January 16th, 2006, 11:47 AM I drove an 06 auto GT and it is a high 13 second car bone stock. The auto shifts very good compared to the 4r70w but it wasn't as good as the 5 speed auto in the G35 with downshift rev matching on the auto!
br94mk8 January 16th, 2006, 12:28 PM well in the end we have the last laugh,we still have lincolns, and I can go for cigs at 2 in the morning and not get pulled over, they show respect.

I love my Lincoln too. I could have had an 05 GT but decided to go with luxury sport instead of just sport. The GT may have us in a race, but we got em for luxury. And not being pulled over for things that most people would is a nice feeling too. Then if I do get popped I flash my mil id and hope that the cop is cool. :D
pepperman January 16th, 2006, 05:16 PM It sure seems that way!!!!
MarkVIII93 January 16th, 2006, 05:57 PM I can tell your a newb in the racing scene because you keep mentioning the "feel".

Actually, Im not a newbie! Ive driven theses mustangs and I am stating my personal comparision between the two cars. I dont think that mustangs are much faster than my own car. Ive hung with cars a full second faster than me on the street then if my car runs low 15's....This is just getting into a BIG argue2 arguement.
BlackMark8Li January 16th, 2006, 08:04 PM I can't believe I got this many replies from this post. All I wanted to do was tell a lil racing story. he did get the jump on me both times, the new stangs are fast there are no 2 ways about it. I'm not crying about loosing, there are plenty of cars I have won.

It's starting to get old.
94m5 January 16th, 2006, 10:39 PM This thread went downhill REAL fast REAL quick.
Guys, I understand that we can have some tempers flare up a bit from time to time, but try to keep them OFF of the forums. Use the PM function, E-mail, or a little invention called the telephone if you happen have a number for the person who is your current E-enemy.
I'm closing this now, take it easy and don't blow a gasket when you find out that a 4000 pound LINCOLN gets it rear handed to it by the large assortment of faster cars out there.
