Could this be a transmission problem?

Hi,

I posted a couple of months ago about feeling a small "clunk" whenever I accelerate my 96 Mark VIII on the freeway. Only happens when I release the gas peddle then step on it. I was told by a couple of members to have my u-joints and rear carrier bushings checked. My local mechanic said they look fine. He thinks my transmission may have been rebuilt, that this is probably the source of the problem. Does this sound like a possibility? It seems to shift perfectly. Should I be concerned or do you think I should just put up with it?

Thanks for all your help.

sounds like U- joints/carrier bearing to me. I suggest a 93 one piece driveshaft thats what I did. Problem solved. :)

Thanks a lot you guys. I'll have the u-joints checked again by someone else and let you know what they found.
