turborich December 17th, 2005, 04:03 AM Hello guys, I'm new to this site as I just bought a 95 mark 8. It's got 108,000 miles on it. I used motorcraft 5 w20 semi synthetic. was this a good choice? I was going to use mobile 1 but at nearly 6 bucks a quart x 6 quarts I just decided to use the motorcraft. besides its ford oil, right? let me know what you guys think. thanks.
JC1994 December 17th, 2005, 04:08 AM welcome! I run mobil one 10w30. 5w30 is what factory recommends, it's just too damn hot here in the summer so I run 10w30.

98LSC32V December 17th, 2005, 03:43 PM Mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic, I wouldn't advise going any thicker than that. Amsoil 5w-30 is actually thicker than Mobil 1 5w-30 so that might be an option as well. The Motorcraft semi synthetic stuff is pretty good, if you changed it every 3k miles the engine should last a long time. I change my Mobil 1 every 4-5k miles...
Bluesman73 December 17th, 2005, 05:21 PM Buy your Mobil 1 in the 5 quart jugs and you can save some money. You basically get a quart for free this way.
Dominus December 17th, 2005, 09:15 PM Mobil One!!!!!!!
End Of Story!

JoeyLincolnMK8 December 18th, 2005, 02:41 AM i am sick, i change my oil every 1500 miles!!!
turborich December 18th, 2005, 03:52 AM Ok guys thanks for the info, I thought that the factory recomended 5 w20 for some reason. next time I will run the mobile 1. That is what I always ran in my t-bird turbo coupe and mustang svo. I had read on another site that the 4.6 engines had very small oiling passages and that 5 w20 was recomended, that's why I used 5 w20. Just one last question, is noise normal at cold start up for about the first 2 seconds or so? It sounds like it's taking the oil a sec or so to start lubercating.

Use motorcraft oil filters, they have an anti drain valve to stop the oil from draining from the filter when the engine is off.
98LSC32V December 18th, 2005, 05:43 PM Not just Motorcraft filters have that feauture... any high quality oil filter should have that. I usually use K&N Gold or Napa Gold.
MarkVIII93 December 18th, 2005, 05:55 PM I think I might have used mobil 1 or qauker state back in the summer. I havent even put 2000 miles on my car since july. I'll be due for an oil change sometime during the new year. YAY!
2002WRXSTi December 18th, 2005, 06:30 PM When you go for the Mobil 1 go to Walmart cause the stuff is dirt cheap in the 5 quart containers there! I forgot to stock up and had to take my car to the local oil change place and they filled it with Dino oil. Now I get some noise on start up, so can't wait for the next oil change to switch to Synthetic :D

That's pretty common. It's the cam tensioners.
98LSC32V December 18th, 2005, 08:05 PM I can't hear the cam tensioners on my 95 or 96 Mark VIII. On my friend's 93 I can hear it at cold startup for a few seconds and it goes away.
jared6180 December 18th, 2005, 08:06 PM yeah, and just incase nobody told you if you are going to go synthetic...use MOBIL1;) :D
brentalan December 18th, 2005, 09:13 PM Recommended oil for this car is 5W-30.

DUH!!!! I know that. Motorcraft is what I use. SUE me, I forgot the I.
98LSC32V December 18th, 2005, 10:08 PM Sorry you made it seem like the Motocraft filters were the only ones that had that feature...
turborich December 19th, 2005, 12:40 AM Thanks guys, I always use a motorcraft oil filter. I will be switching to the mobil 1 5w-30 soon.
Dominus December 19th, 2005, 09:08 AM Motorcraft = Purolator Pure One Gold, one of the top 3 best filters ont he market
rmac694203 December 19th, 2005, 02:26 PM I recently switched to Mobil 1 5w-30 with no problems. Also used the Mobil 1 oil filter. And yes, the 5 quart jugs at wal mart are pretty cheap.
