Oxygen sensors

When my gas mileage dropped from 28 highway to 22 I knew something was wrong. This happened almost overnight wit no other changes. A buddy of mine came over with a scanner ( he works at Ford ) and showed me that one oxygen sensor was dead causing one bank to run like 25% to the rich side.

Went to Ford got two new sensors ( $200.00). Had to drop the y pipe to get the right side one in. Also plugging them back in was a treat.

Happy to report that my mileage is now back up to 28+ on a highway cruise of 70 MPH.

I get 14 in the city, 24-25 highway doing 80. Pretty sure my O2s are bad though.

Luck for me that I have a lift. Here's what you need to do. Left side; remove 2 nuts from y pipe to convertor, right side you remove 2 nuts from y pipe to exhaust manifold, then the 2 nuts on the rear hanger. After the pipe is lowered, no need to completely remove y pipe, you can access the sensors. They are 18mm. Unscrewing them is the easy part, the hard part is unplugging and re-plugging the sensors into the harness. All must be done from the bottom. Took me about one hour.

Results: I can cruise at 70-75 steady and register 27-28 mpg highway. Before the sensors on the exact same run I was only getting 22-23 best.
I travel to my weekend house every weekend and it's 300 miles each way so any changes I make are easily tested. Car runs a lot better too.

I did mine on a lift without unbolting anything. They DO suck to do though.
