I just bought a 1993 Town Car Cartier and the radio sounds fine at a fairly loud volume (showing about 6 bars on the display) but I get a popping sound when I adjust the volume. The problem appears to be in the left channel (both front and back). That channel does not play until the volume gets cranked to about 5 or 6 bars on the display.

Any ideas? Is it a problem with the amplifier or the in-dash unit? The car is very clean and the trunk does not appear to have been used much, so I'm guessing it's not a pinched wire. I did check all the connections in the trunk and they all seem fine.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
