98LSC32V November 14th, 2005, 12:20 AM Anyone have increased line pressure via chip as well as a J-mod or shift kit? My shifts are very firm and fast now but i'm thinking about adding a Baumen Shift kit to my setup and setting it at level 3 or 4. Would this be advisable or not?
brentalan November 14th, 2005, 12:54 AM Probably not a good idea. Do one or the other but not both if you want the trans. to live.
MrWilson November 14th, 2005, 06:33 AM i believe they put a bauman 5 in mine, its real nice. im always losin the rear at that 1-2 shift.
driller November 14th, 2005, 09:32 AM I have the Baumann shift kit at level 5. I have a switch chip with increased line pressure at the 'race' position and a more mild setting in the 'street' position. Best of both worlds.
No fear here. With 96 runs at the track last year, and nearly 50 runs this year, if she blows it was due anyways. :steering
67Continental November 14th, 2005, 09:38 AM is the level 5 liveable for daily use?
BlackIceLSC November 14th, 2005, 09:44 AM Serge, I run a JMOD, and a chip. of course, I also have a built up 98+ tranny. I had Torrie increase my EPC pressure by only 1/2 the "typical" increase one a chip.
My car doesnt shift *as firm* as most Mark VIII's due to my TC. Driller's shift will also be softer than a stock mark due to the higher stall TC.
furthermore, the more HP/torque your engine makes, the less-firm the shifts. This is because your tranny will flare more, with more HP being applied. That is why T-Bird guys go hog-wild over a JMOD...their engines dont put out as much power as our 4-cammers do.
My 94's JMOD/old tranny was wicked without a chip, drilled for the 450hp set up. If I added a chip to that, Oh have mercy on my driveline.
The T-Bird guys over on tccoa say its fine. Even the tranny builders say its fine. I run both. I like both.
I think if you do add the baumann, just set it up *mild* since you have the chip.
MrWilson November 14th, 2005, 12:02 PM is the level 5 liveable for daily use?
extreemly so. I get a decently firm shift when just crusing, but when im WOT, it gets a real head jerker
94m5 November 14th, 2005, 12:06 PM If I could just get traction, the 1-2 on my 95 would snap your neck. Full throttle upshifts at 7000 are the shizzle.
Baunmann Stage 4, and soon to be 3000 Stall.
MarkOfDeath November 14th, 2005, 01:30 PM ya with the 3500 stall all I get it a chirp and a wiggle
MrWilson November 14th, 2005, 01:44 PM ya with the 3500 stall all I get it a chirp and a wiggle
lucky duck, you got posi!
JoeyLincolnMK8 November 14th, 2005, 01:49 PM i remember when i had my chip, 1st shifting into 2nd gear was a real head jerker for me. i miss it... *sniff sniff*
MarkOfDeath November 14th, 2005, 02:10 PM I also got 4.10s, a SCT chip, full exhaust, CAI,and UD pullies
98LSC32V November 14th, 2005, 03:48 PM So set the shift kit at level 3 or 4? I'm not sure how high Torrie at FPN increased the line pressure, but I told him for the shifts to be neck breaking so he probably set it all the way.
MarkVIII93 November 14th, 2005, 04:50 PM I have a trans-go shift kit on my car. I havent got the trans broken in all the way yet so i havent been able to experience the full effect. Hey MarkOfDeath! What does your car run in the qaurter?

I had the Baumann at Level 5 before the converter. The shift firmness was directly proportional to the throttle. It is a personal preference to consider for a daily driver.
I recommend you drive a Mark VIII with the Baumann shift kit at Level 5 to make your personal determination. If not, once you read the instructions (http://imageevent.com/driller/baumannshiftkit), you will be scared and set it to Level 2 or Level 3 at most.
Keep in mind: chips can be reflashed, holes can be drilled bigger and springs/spacers can be added or ommitted. Make your decision based on these facts.
jdlmkviii November 14th, 2005, 07:49 PM 3200 stall here with level 5 Baumann shift kit... nice little jerk and fast shift... but NO chirp
