siddymae November 11th, 2005, 09:15 PM Hello everyone. this is my first post and it might be a long one.
ok i bought a 2000 lincoln ls that was wrecked when i bought the car from a family friend i was told all that needed to be replaced was the lower control arm on the drivers side which i thought wouldnt be too bad. well not only did that have to be replace but it seems like everything else did too. the frame had to be repaired. both upper an lower control arms. front an rear cross members. water pump. and the list goes on. ive spent 2,000 in parts alone from junk yards. being that i am running low on money i had a local mechanic take it in to fix since he had worked on some other cars. ok now heres my question. when i orderd some parts for the car from a junk yard about 3 hours away i told them i needed the end of the breather box for a 2000 lincoln ls. which they sent to me the only thing is. its square and mine is a cone. now ive called everyone an they say they all have square ones. so how the hell am i suppose to put an end on it? its making this god awful noise an the mechanic says its because there is nothing on the end of the cone. could someone please help me out here.please please
01lssport November 11th, 2005, 09:27 PM Are you saying that it has a cone filter on it, like a K&N or something? Is it just sucking through the Mass Airflow Sensor? Does it have a filter on it at all? This is what mine looks like. Mind you that it's aftermarket. The cars did come with a square black box that held a panel filter that sat on the driverside. A pic of what your talking about would make it alot easier though.
SoonerLS November 11th, 2005, 09:32 PM The air filter box on the LS is square-ish, and it uses a rectangular panel filter; your cone filter is an aftermarket piece, and there's not a box available that fits it. There are some guys (notably QuikLS) who have built custom boxes for them, but there's nothing pre-made--at least, I've never seen one.
siddymae November 11th, 2005, 09:45 PM well see there was a cone filter in it when i got it. but it was just kinda layin there. how do i keep it on cause the bottom of the filter is smaller then the end of the intake

Fla02LS November 11th, 2005, 10:27 PM If you already bought a "squarish" stock airbox then where is the problem ? Put it on.
siddymae November 12th, 2005, 11:19 AM well the problem is on the square one i have there is no where to plug in the sensors at least i think thats what they are. and im not seeing how it goes on
LS4me November 12th, 2005, 12:38 PM Pictures would go a long way to help with the diagnosis.
siddymae November 12th, 2005, 05:54 PM i will have to wait till monday to take pics. but i will do it

siddymae November 14th, 2005, 05:08 PM here are some of the pics
Quik LS November 14th, 2005, 05:10 PM well - that's somebody homemade job.
If you want to go back to stock - you'll need the Airoutlet tube and airbox.
siddymae November 14th, 2005, 05:10 PM an here are 2 more. if you need to see more let me know i got aboout 5 or 6 more
siddymae November 14th, 2005, 05:11 PM well i have the air box i believe aka end of the breather box?
01lssport November 14th, 2005, 05:16 PM Somebody did a serious number on that thing. Can you take a pic of the whole motor?
siddymae November 14th, 2005, 05:28 PM well like i said it was wrecked so i would say the guy who sold me the car tried to do that. but seeing as ford wont sell it as 2 seperate parts then im gonna have to find one at a junkyard so what exactly do i need to ask for?
Fla02LS November 14th, 2005, 05:47 PM What you have is one of those ridiculous fan/turbo things. It should be able to be removed and the stock airbox put back on.
siddymae November 14th, 2005, 06:01 PM but i still need the tube right? .. and when u say air box its the same as the breather box correct?
lexdiamondz10304 November 14th, 2005, 06:06 PM Yep....... its one of those useless turbonator things.
SoonerLS November 14th, 2005, 07:01 PM I don't know anything about a Turbonator, but it certainly looks like the stock air filter that was in my '95 Ranger. Of course, that was the side that should be facing the engine...

Did your Ranger's stock air filter have wires coming out of it ?
:N

Go look at the tech articles and open the airbox mod. That will show you what the entire setup should look like.

The engine-side half of the airbox might've, but I was referring more to the shape of the filter itself. The piece in the picture to which the filter is mounted looks strangely like engine-side half of the airbox, though I couldn't swear to it. It's only been five years since I traded it for my '90 F150 4x4...

Dude, that was a joke. That thing is definately one of those turbo fan things. Its actually the first one i have ever seen installed on a LS.
SoonerLS November 14th, 2005, 07:24 PM Dude, that was a joke.
Like the funny kind, only different? :D
Fla02LS November 14th, 2005, 07:28 PM Like the funny kind, only different? :D
Yes. Someone else needs to chime in to help this poor victim of a turbonator. My guess is this thing doesnt have the electrical conections connected, So its just a huge restriction.
2006kmls November 14th, 2005, 07:35 PM It looks like an eRam electric supercharger! I heard those are worth up to 30hp? Its definatly eithera turbinator or an eRam type device?

30hp my ass....Thats not a supercharger, it doesnt compress the air, just blows it into the intake. And from their original post its making an awful noise which isnt surprising. I'd have to say that device is definately hurting the performance.
siddymae November 15th, 2005, 05:48 AM uhh yes it makes an awful damn noise. sounds like the car is gonna blow up. but what i dont understand is the person who owned it before it was wrecked was an old person. why the hell would they install something like that?
Qbrozen November 15th, 2005, 09:56 AM probably because some a** convinced the gullible old person that this atrocity would increase their gas mileage.
FreeFaller November 15th, 2005, 10:16 AM That has got to be the most hideous intake I've ever seen. Definately replace it with the original or a KKM.
siddymae November 15th, 2005, 05:26 PM well guys i wanna say thanks, i fixed it today and everything is fine :D
Quik LS November 15th, 2005, 05:52 PM what was the issue?
siddymae November 15th, 2005, 07:50 PM exactly what u said
