Several media sources say that Miers stepping down is a Bush defeat and yet another blow to the Bush administration. As far as I can tell, it seems like the "radical right of the Republican party" killed the nomination. What do you think?

I think BuSh threw her to the dogs to make his next appointment a shoe-in. I think he's in for a fight if he picks a candidate that's too far right.

My opinion is that the conservative base raised such an outcry that Miers intelligently saw this as an opportunity for Bush to try again, and pulled herself out. I'll bet she saw what happened to Priscilla Owen and Janice Rogers Brown and decided it wasn't worth it.

Now Bush has a real opportunity to put a Constitutionalist in there. I'll bet he gets it right this time.
