Newbie with questions

I just signed up on this site after lurking for a week or so. I just bought a 2001 LS V8 about a month ago. And i just have 2 quick questions for you guys.

1. I had a data error come up saying gear selection in my info center. But it barely stayed on long enough for me to read it. Is it something i should worry about?

2. Since canadian winters are pretty messy i was gonna pick up some winter tires and rims for it. But i was wondering what vehicles i could look for rims off of at the local auto wrecker. My car has the sport package so i dont know if any 15's will work. So if anyone has any suggestions on some older cars that have rims that would work that would be great.

And thanks for the help, this seems like a really good site for everything.

as far as rims, you can do what i did. i bought a set of ls 16" rims off of ebay and get 215-60-16 snows. then just swap the rims as the season allows. fyi, i have the 17" stock as well.

Can you describe the gear selector error a bit more? The LS transmission has a couple of known issues (solenoid pack, valve body, and on later models, software programming) that are easily fixed.

As long as you get wheels with the same dimensions (diameter, width, offset, bolt pattern, etc.) you'll be fine. I agree the best place to look would be on eBay, and getting a set of wheels off another LS would be the best choice. Using wheels from another LS will cause you no problems.

Yes that would be true, I am pretty sure they went to 5 lug in 94.

There doesnt seem to be any problem with the tranny. I just saw it pop up and didnt even get to fully read it before it disappeared. I recently also took the car in and had them install the updated tranny programming, and topped up the fluid. other than that stuff it drives great. Thats why i wasnt sure if it was a big deal.
