5.7,6.1 hemisMrWilson October 26th, 2005, 09:50 PM So that 5.7 hemi doesnt usuially stand up too well to the mark, but what about the new 6.1, is this another car to worry about in the stoplight wars? seanklsc October 26th, 2005, 10:58 PM Haha! Another Mr Wilson thread!! The 6.1's (SRT-8)'s are all 13 second cars. In other words: no. This includes the 300C SRT-8, Charger SRT-8, and Magnum SRT-8. I raced my friends 300C SRT-8 from a dig and from a roll, he pulled on me like a rocket. Real nice car. DonLino October 26th, 2005, 11:13 PM Those SRT-8's are no joke, dont race one unless you can run low 13's. I heard a guy had one with mild bolt ons and DR's and it ran a 12.9. The regular 5.7 hemis are no biggie. A set of gears and a chip would take care of one. Dern Humpus October 26th, 2005, 11:26 PM The 5.7s have to be around a 14 flat car. I dont understand how that doesnt stand up very well to a mark. Frogman October 26th, 2005, 11:30 PM When are you all going to understand that there are more factors in a race than numbers on a piece of paper? Furthermore, there is more to it that 1/4 mile racing. Unless you are Vinny, and you live your life 1/4 mile at a time. Most stoplight (not that I agree with it) racing will not last for a 1/4 mile. Dern Humpus October 26th, 2005, 11:44 PM I am waiting for everyone on this site to understand that the Mark VIII isnt God's gift to mankind. Im also waiting for people to realize that it isnt nearly as fast as they think it is. 98LSC32V October 27th, 2005, 12:35 AM I have seen the Magnum 5.7 Hemi's run low 15's at my track so a stock Mark VIII should be a good race for it. Also, the Hemi trucks shouldn't be a problem for any Mark VIII but any SRT-8 6.1 L is definately in the 13's. MrWilson October 27th, 2005, 07:12 AM lol. dang i had no clue that the 6.1's were that fast! MAllen82 October 27th, 2005, 08:08 AM silly little kids. I sell Chryslers and I can tell you with complete confidence that a charger r/t will blow away a stock mark 8. 300C will be a little closer because it has just a little less horsepower and it is a bit heavier. But it will still beat it. I bet I could beat any of you in the Grand Cherokee with a Hemi as well. And don't even think about running with a 6.1 because at 425 hp, you won't even see taillights. They don't call it a 4 door viper for nothing. And I'm not saying a Mark 8 isn't a nice car, it's even faster than my LS8, but it can't hang with the Hemi cars, I'm sorry. ps. of course I'm talking all stock cars, once you get aftermarket the whole game changes. scott9050 October 27th, 2005, 09:03 AM I bet I could beat any of you in the Grand Cherokee with a Hemi as well. The rest I agree with, but not that one. I walked one back in the summer from a roll by several car lengths. When I wanted to kill some real Hemi I took out the Mustang. MAllen82 October 27th, 2005, 09:17 AM I know, I was stirring the pot. :D What year mustang do you have? My boss has a 300C with a supercharger, intake, exhaust, and chip, and we have beaten a stock C5 ZO6 in it. (it's amazing what car salesmen do in the slow months) However, the most fun I have ever had was in our crossfire SRT6 that has a custom exhaust and intake on it. That thing goes like nobodies business. Grifter October 27th, 2005, 09:38 AM I am waiting for everyone on this site to understand that the Mark VIII isnt God's gift to mankind. Im also waiting for people to realize that it isnt nearly as fast as they think it is. I agree.. they are awesome cars, but they arent a hardcore racer.. a decently fast sleeper, sure. also, Mr. Wilson, stop rating all your posts 5star, thats annoying and seems a bit egotistical to make your own thread a 5 star.. NYC LS8 October 27th, 2005, 09:44 AM I love bench/magazine racers!!! Another 5 stars for you, Mr. Wilson! cobra October 27th, 2005, 11:41 AM i think the new hemi's suck. in a issue of car and driver they compare a ford explorer with the SOHC 4.6 3V against the new jeep commander with a 5.7 hemi and it only goes .5 seconds in the quater mile faster than the explorer. Also when i had my 94 v8 t-bird i raced a brand new hemi ram and he only beat me by two car lengths. My markviii 80 more hp than my tbird so i know it would win. scott9050 October 27th, 2005, 12:19 PM I know, I was stirring the pot. :D What year mustang do you have? Someone else already admitted to doing that to him. NYC LS8 October 27th, 2005, 01:38 PM  MarkOfDeath October 27th, 2005, 01:40 PM I am waiting for everyone on this site to understand that the Mark VIII isnt God's gift to mankind. Im also waiting for people to realize that it isnt nearly as fast as they think it is. I agree but dont forget people in the board all own a mark viiis and more then half dont do anything to there car but exhaust. I think if people did more to there car they would see how slow it really is, here in joliet hondas would be picking on these guys like crazy, and when they loss its I got more class because i bought my 12 year old car from a auto auction JoeyLincolnMK8 October 27th, 2005, 01:48 PM those 5.7's and 6.1's are totally not in the same class as the mark. i would just stay away from those in a race. once i looked at thier numbers, i just shook my head. MrWilson October 27th, 2005, 02:09 PM Mr. Wilson, stop rating all your posts 5star, thats annoying and seems a bit egotistical to make your own thread a 5 star.. dude, its not me, its nyc lsc. Grifter October 27th, 2005, 02:40 PM LOL ok, then i guess its not AS bad. buddylee October 27th, 2005, 03:04 PM the point is this is a 10+ year old car, vs. a new car with bigger motor. and it holds up very well! and I would give the car 5 stars and this thread also mespock October 27th, 2005, 03:30 PM From 1993 to 1998 what did Dodge build that was worth posting about? Oh the Viper? what else.... But on the other hand The 300, new Charger and the Magnum look like :q:q:q:q... The Magnum would be the only one I would ever consider... It would make a nice work truck... crash October 27th, 2005, 04:18 PM I ran against a Magnum with the 5.7 hemi last month. I have 4.10's, exhaust, and a j-mod. I ran a 14.4 and he ran a 15.1. A mark 8 with just gears should be able to take a 5.7 hemi. JoeyLincolnMK8 October 27th, 2005, 04:21 PM nice run crash. i would of paid money to see the look on the guys face. BlackMark8Li October 27th, 2005, 06:45 PM my brother raced a 5.7 charger with my car.. only went to about-60 or so he said... but he said the hemi held up but he still beat him. My car is not insanly fast but it is (I HOPE) a 13 second 4000lbs daily driver.. If I wanted to go crazy fast for cheap I would've bought a mustang and been a dime a dozen. I think my next performance mod(which will probally be in about 2 years if I still have the car) will be getting crazy head+cam work done. 95Marklll(Kingcobra) October 27th, 2005, 07:23 PM I agree that the new hemis are nice but look at the horse power differences and then look at the quarter numbers if u moded a mark to the same 340 horse power it would be a hands down win for the mark already stock to stock the marks are faster when it comes to the 5.7. Also, every one likes to forget that the hemis were the first rear wheeled cars for dodge in well over a decade. Also dodge is now owned by mercedes so there part dodge part mercedes, and the cross fire is a mercedes with the only thing chrysler would be the emblems. They also killed off plymouth!!!!!!!! I want a retro cuda already those bastards!!!!!! MAllen82 October 27th, 2005, 07:49 PM I agree that the new hemis are nice but look at the horse power differences and then look at the quarter numbers if u moded a mark to the same 340 horse power it would be a hands down win for the mark already stock to stock the marks are faster when it comes to the 5.7. I want a retro cuda already those bastards!!!!!! what's wrong with being part mercedes? Look at the quality difference between the pre-merger chrysler and the post-merger chrysler. Case in point, Sebring versus the rest of the lineup. That thing is a piece of shiat. The 300 is the #1 selling car right now. And it is much better made than most lincoln and cadillacs. My LS is misfiring like crazy every time I drive it, the passenger front window motor is broken, and I can't open my door from the inside. And my car is only 4 years old. I love my LS, but to be quite frank, it sucks. No car should fall apart like that. And I will challenge anyone who wants to race against a 300C stock for stock because I will eat you, more class or not. if u moded a mark to the same 340 horse power it would be a hands down win for the mark already stock to stock the marks are faster when it comes to the 5.7. that doesn't make any sense. and sure, if I modded my LS to 500 hp I could probably take a ZO6, what's your point? Stock for stock a hemi car is faster than a mark 8. MrWilson October 27th, 2005, 07:56 PM If I modded my LS to 500 hp I could probably take a ZO6 Im still going with ... no, on that one. MAllen82 October 27th, 2005, 07:58 PM that would be a C5, and if I didn't, it would be damne close. The point is the mark didn't come with as much horse power, and it is slower. How about this one, to mod a C5 vette to 500 hp, it would take a viper. but it won't stock, so what's the argument? There really isn't one. MrWilson October 27th, 2005, 08:08 PM what was the question? 95Marklll(Kingcobra) October 27th, 2005, 08:16 PM what's wrong with being part mercedes? Also mercedes have a plastic rear end and fake leather due to peta across sea. Define quality, due u think the new chryslers will ever hit 200,000 miles or more? I also hear a lot of complaints about that mechanism that shuts off half your cylinders when cruising,if that goes your really F't in the A. Chrysler doesent need mercedes, also get your shlt straight the hemis due low 15's there have been people on this site that hit low to mid 14's all day when are cars were new and bone stock, and were still pulling it off ten years later. You should tell us how those crotlers are doing a decade from now. MrWilson October 27th, 2005, 08:38 PM First off mercede quality is a oximorone at its best. mercedes are always in the shop. I try, I am what u call a american and when i see Bs like that I just have to put everything into perspective. I cant figure out why someone praises a company that sold out to a foreign company. America wouldent be what it is today if it wasent for american companies like Ford,Gm,john deere and other companies built and designed by are american for fathers and americans today. I hope that never changes....... 95Marklll(Kingcobra) October 27th, 2005, 08:54 PM Oh yeah my uncle worked for chrysler for over 20 yrs he came to the age of retirement and was denied, he was so pissed he went out and bought a toyota corrola just to piss them off. Also he told me that when there was talk years ago of chrysler merging with mercedes, there would never be a high bred part mercedes part dodge. He told me when the crossfire came out chrysler was dead to him.( This comes from a person who worked for chrysler for over 2 decades and owned hemis and six pack 440's,now thats chrysler). My uncle told me this exactly " Now who the hell wants a car designed for celene dion anyways, weres my cuda"? MrWilson October 27th, 2005, 09:19 PM though also, america wouldnt be what it is today without being sellouts too, lol. 98LSC32V October 28th, 2005, 04:56 PM The 300c 5.7 Hemis will take a stock Mark VIII easily, the Magnums are a better race because they are heavier. 95Marklll(Kingcobra) October 28th, 2005, 04:57 PM though also, america wouldnt be what it is today without being sellouts too, lol. True.... klutch October 28th, 2005, 05:42 PM Everyone seems to forget the Mark VIII is atleast 6 years old so back in 1998 it had a good amount of horsepower versus competitors, I bet if Lincoln every produces that new car based on the Mustang platform it will take the new Hemi's mespock October 29th, 2005, 09:16 AM Everyone seems to forget the Mark VIII is atleast 6 years old so back in 1998 it had a good amount of horsepower versus competitors, I bet if Lincoln every produces that new car based on the Mustang platform it will take the new Hemi's And this is the point for the Mark VIII! What was Chrysler building in the 90's but a bunch of :q:q:q:q!! Nice looking cars that ran like crap!!! The only car they built that was something was the viper... maybe the prowler but that's all and these cars weren't made for the masses.. But I agree if ford would let Lincoln have a new car that was not a piece of :q:q:q:q like the Zepher.. In addition I don't look at the Mark VIII is god's gift to car fans.. but... it's one hell of a ride... and even at 10 yrs old my 95 is a lot of fun to dirve... What 10 yr old Chrysler can claim that.... 95Marklll(Kingcobra) October 29th, 2005, 10:56 AM And this is the point for the Mark VIII! What was Chrysler building in the 90's but a bunch of :q:q:q:q!! What 10 yr old Chrysler can claim that.... Exactly, Last thing rear 8 from a dodge was what a diplomat? And if a mark 9 came out with the mustang platform and the 300 hp and 320 trq, there would he no 5.7 that could touch it stock the only thing that probably could would be the 6.1 but then again the mustangs motor is a 4.6 281 cubic inches with 300 hp and 320 trq, the 5.7 hemi has a like what atleast over 340 cubic inches making 340 hp and trq and are mark 8's with a heaver body and weaker motor still take them to town and we are mostly 10 yr 100,000 + cars. If a mustang does a mid 13 what does that tell yeah a mark will due on the same platform. And one more thing....... Charger does not = Four doors!!!!!!!!! JoeyLincolnMK8 October 29th, 2005, 11:04 AM if ford ever comes out with that new mark, they should drop the 5.4l V8 into it as an optional motor and keep the 4.6l as a standard. with the 5.4l V8 pushing out 450hp and the 4.6l 350! at least that is my dream! klutch October 29th, 2005, 11:11 AM If they follow like before the Mark 9 (or whatever they will call it) would get a better engine then the Mustang GT and since the new GT's put out 300HP I am sure whatever they put in the 9 would kill some Hemi's :D | ||||
