My 97 has no heat. Probably the blend door problem. Anyone out there tackled this in there Mark ? Any advice is it a real difficult job. Instructions seem not to difficult just wrestling with the dash pad removal.

Ensure to check your vacuum lines first. I had issues with the door because my line had broke and didn't know it.

May not be your problem specifically, but just an idea.

are you getting cold air when you switch to hot? That's usually the sign that its the blend door. I've replace two blend doors (they were on different cars), what a pain in the ass!!!! Its really just time consuming and a lot to dissasemble. Doesn't help to be a big guy either because there is a lot of work under the dash. I removed the passenger seat just so I could get comfortable while working under there.

Pulling the passenger seat sounds like a good idea. I'll probably pull both seats just so I can clean out all the french fries. LOL.

Of course I waited for the weather to get cold so I could suffer even more. Time for heat. Summer is over.

We had the same problem with my 97. After putting up with no airconditioning all summer, my lovely spoiled vehicle decided to switch to only airconditioning as soon as the temperature dropped below 60.

After getting tired of hearing me gripe (only took ALL summer) my husband dropped the dash and found that the blend door actuator was over-extended. So, he took some plastic weld and put it back in place. He also had to remove the passenger seat for a more comfortable working environment. BUT it did save the cost of a replacement part.

who knows bout this blend door...i pulled the grey door lever too alows some heat. but why does it not allow more hot air.........what is it that fails....

there are two levers a grey one just a little past the lower left corner of the glove box (thats not too bad) i replaced that one a year ago and now the upper one (black & part of the blend door motor) its basically behind the little computer screen in the middle of the dash i havent replaced mine yet but im gonna remove all that crap and maybe just loosen the dash and squeek it in (also being a ford tech for six years also helps) i just gotta order one and try it now (also when you disconnect the computer screen it will lose all info........that sucks cuz trip b was reset when i bought the car now i have to think and that hurts)

I'm having the same problem on my 93. So does anyone know what this blend door look like? Approximately where is it located behind the dash? Is the part too expensive to replace? If anyone has some step-by-steps, that would be great, because this is something I may need to tackle this weekend.

On the 93 it is the blend door actuator motor. The plastic gear inside strips leaving it inoperable. The part is about $60 tax included from the Lincoln dealer. Yo have to pull the dash back to access the 5 screws, 3 from behind the message center and 2 from the glovebox door.

The procedure is similar to that of the blend door arm shown on other sites except it is the motor as Gen I's do not have the arm.

It's really not that bad of a job, took me 5 hours taking a lot of breaks, I could have done it in 3.

dayum! i just started a new thread about this and then i saw this one.

same thing on my 1997 Mark VIII. no friggen heat! i say we all petition Ford Mo Co and try to get all of ours fixed, for free because it is obviously a fault in engineering.
