When I start my '86 Mark VII in the morning it has suddenly stated to idle too fast (@1000 rpm). After driving it for a short time, shutting off and restarting seems to clear it up. What should I look for?

JoshMcMadMac September 20th, 2005, 08:23 AM 1000rpm is not too fast for an idle when you start it for the first time. It will settle down if you give it a moment, or if you tap the pedal. Still sound advice. skymasteres September 20th, 2005, 10:05 PM The Mark VII's never had a carb, they are all fuel injected. Still sound advice. Very Early Mark VII's were Carburated. I think it was 84-86 on some models but I know they were doing it in 84. OldSchool1 September 20th, 2005, 10:32 PM You're all sort of right. From 1984 to 1986, our cars had CFI (Central Fuel Injected) engines. There were two electronic fuel injectors in what LOOKED like a carbeurator but was actually a throttle body. See the four centrally located wires in the picture below. http://www.lscclub.org/cars/oldschool3/images/oldschool3053t.jpg (http://www.lscclub.org/cars/oldschool3/images/oldschool3053.jpg) Suncoaster. If you really want to do some positive work, then see: http://www.lscclub.org/tech/1984EGR.htm and clean your EGR. | ||||
