Hey everyone,
Thanks again for looking at my thread, and give me all your great info. Ok so im on my way home from the office today, and my air conditioner kick off and on with the numbers you can't read. then my ANTI-LOCK lights up, and my check charging system light comes on. about 2 miles after this starts happening i start to give my mk8 some gas to get off the on ramp, and sure as shi-t the car feels like its running on 2 cyclinders. i just put a new Alt, and new battery on the car. i did notice that the top of the battery is leaking fluids out of the top.
thanks
stu

Alt. I've had the same thing happen on a different car. I went through 3 different alts before I got a good one. I would even check the main charging wire comming off of the alt. could be shorting out.

Just changed mine about a month ago. I'm probably gonna' wind up changing it again soon. My ABS light came on briefly a coupla' days ago, usually an indicator that theres an alternator problem coming down the pike soon. I am amazingly enough getting better gas mileage since changing it though. I'm a lifer with Auto Zone so when ever it goes bad, I trudge my way back to the Zone to get another one. I burned up three in less than 72 hours fooling with Pep Boys products. Steer clear of those whenever possible. Have them bench test the new one before they sell it to you. *owned*

the alt's on the early marks are the worst I change mine about twice a year... the best bet is a napa or ford alt... the marls have alot of things to run with 8 onboard computers on some it takes alot of amps. The cheapys just cant pull it off or if they do they wont for very long

Napa = the win!!!!

You can take autozone and burn them all to the ground for all I care. I don't have any other parts stores in this area, so I can't say whether they are good or not.

Well just depends on if you want to change them all the time or not???

I stay away form autozone, pep boys, etc as well. I went to a local parts store and picked up a bosh. No problems whatsoever, save for the a-hole who sideswiped me a week later.
