Please help, i need one today.
SurfjaxLS August 19th, 2005, 04:49 PM I tried all sorts of places when I needed a new battery. I ended up getting one form LM. The LS used a vent design, but a ventless style is out there. The one I got from LM is ventless. Make sure the battery you get, if you get it from another place, can be used in the passenger compartment/trunk.
Venom-Linc August 19th, 2005, 05:12 PM Not positive, but I think O'reilly auto parts carries it. Not sure about Sears or Advance. If you have a system it may be draining your battery. I would suggest getting a heavy duty battery or even running a second battery.
itsnotmydaddys August 19th, 2005, 05:23 PM i just called o reillys and they have a silver star for 59.99 with 72 month warranty, and the lm duralast was 90.00 with a 36 month warranty. has anyone heard of a silver star (do they make my blinker bulbs)
Quik LS August 19th, 2005, 07:06 PM make sure it will connect to your vent tube - since the battery is in the 'passenger' compartment (trunk) you got to vent the gases that form when charging it.

My battery I got from lincoln didn't have the vent. They said they improved the batteries to be ventless, and not emit any gases.
Silver02Sport August 19th, 2005, 09:01 PM If you just want to get the best battery the check out Optima batteries (http://www.optimabatteries.com) you can get them at pepboys if you have them near you. Gobs of crancking amps, sealed desgin, (importent since the batt is in the trunk and theres no venttalation hell you could mount it upside down if you wantted) plus they have a great warrenty 6 years first 36 month free replament then 36 month prorated. There about $120. Or if you just want a good cheep battery go to wallmart (evil A$$holes) and get one of the yellow neverstarts never had a problom with them and I think they have a 5 or 7 year warrenty not shure been a while since I got one should be about $70.

This is true I have a red top in the LS and I never had a problem and I beat the hell out of my battery I sit in the car for hours with the radio and tv and all my stuff on and never have a problem worth the little extra for the battery and the peace of mind its gonna start.... I bought this when I had the S-Dime and used it in the truck pulled it out the day i traded it in put it in the ls the second day i had it and never had an issue yet
A+ battery

I bought mine from ford but I think it was a Motorcraft. I guess it does not really help since it is not a duralast but it has been a good battery. The thing with batteries if you get a dud you usually find out before the warranty is out. So just buy one and don't worry about it because if it does go bad it will probably not cost you anything.
Good Luck

This is true guys. An Optima is a gel battery...and you actually can mount them any way you want and they work great. Plus, since there's no fumes, etc, there's no corrosion build up on the battery posts!!!
shuman August 23rd, 2005, 09:38 AM Do you need a code for the factory radio if yo disconnect your battery? Thanks

So which battery is better, Yellow or Red?
Midas78 September 6th, 2005, 01:09 PM Would any sealed - Maintenance Free - battery work in the trunk? They do not have vents.

SilverLS September 6th, 2005, 03:00 PM So which battery is better, Yellow or Red?
yellow is a deep cell battery I got the red because I was into BBIIGG systems and lots of electrical running so that which one optima recommened for me the red is a little cheaper and all the optima's are warr. for quite some time
as far as the any battery working I would say as long as it is the same specs as the stock battery (or higher) it should be ok (as far as cold start amps and BLAHH BLAHH )
why not spend a little extra and have it outlast anything else cheaper over time I ve had this battery for 2 and 1/2 years NO PROBLEMS EVER
bigdog1279 September 6th, 2005, 03:38 PM where do you buy these red and yellow top batterys and dose anyone have a pic of them i have never seen them befor

Go to http://www.optimabatteries.com/
They have info on the batteries and a dealer locator. Just beware the obnoxious Flash intro...
JES_LS September 6th, 2005, 11:20 PM I have had optima's in two of my other cars and swear by them. Heck I wish they made them small enough to fit in my motorcycle.
When I have an issue with the original battery in the LS, I will buy an Optima.
My wife who is cheap when it comes to car parts (especially tires, shocks and batteries) can see the difference in the optima, just by looking at the nine year old one that is still cranking up the 89 mustang coupe that I sold to her best friend.

LikeNew02 September 11th, 2005, 08:22 PM when i check the optima site for a battery for the ls, the site say that there are none avialble for the ls.
then I went to pep boys today, and they can not find the battery in their system. then i carry my battery in and they say that they don't have an optima battery as large as my battery.
if you have an optima, what size/series do you have?
Frogman September 11th, 2005, 08:25 PM Optima.
I have them in every one of my vehicles... And some of my vehicles go through places that a HMMV would pause say "I don't know about that"... I've NEVER had any issues with them. Definitely worth the extra $$.
Pete02LSE September 11th, 2005, 11:07 PM Another vote for the Optima red top. I've got one in my 99 Camaro SS that previously sat for weeks at a time and it never once gave me a problem. Now, I keep a trickle charge on it and expect it to last forever.
A friend of mine had two yellow tops for at least 10 years. They were both used for the audio in his truck. Never once a problem.
As for one that fits, you probably won't find one. The one in my SS didn't fit quite right either. I had to modify the hold down.

LS4me September 11th, 2005, 11:22 PM Unless a build up of hydrogen gas in your trunk is your goal, go ahead and don't vent the battery. Just be ready for a very large boom!
My battery I got from lincoln didn't have the vent. They said they improved the batteries to be ventless, and not emit any gases.
That dealer is an idiot!! Also a liar! The process of the battery making electricity creates hydrogen gas. Even Optimas will vent some.

Are there any other battery experts on here?
I know an American car can't be this difficult to maintain, no auto parts store carries batteries for an LS, and I'm sick of going to the dealership.
I have an everstart maxx on it now, no vent, drove 400 miles no problems. Can someone else with experience add some feedback on this?
pragmatic September 12th, 2005, 05:06 AM All batteries vent H2, even Optimas. The Optimas have a small vent near the top that allows gas but not liquid to vent out. Do the Optimas vent enough H2 to cause a problem? Maybe but I doubt it, but any battery mounted in the trunk should have an external vent.
The only thing special about the LS battery is the external vent line. On a none LS specific battery you should find how it is vented and provide an external vent. Mounting in the trunk should allow a longer life (less heat, less vibration) but even so my 2000 will need a new one someday.
I wrote to Optima about mounting their battery in the trunk their reply:
"YOU MAY BE ABLE TO APPLY VENTING TUBES TO THE TOP PORTION OF THE BATTERY.(i.e. small round charcoal pieces on top )
Thank you for your interest and support of Optima Batteries.

LikeNew02 September 13th, 2005, 06:44 PM I had a weak battery, so I took it to the dealership.
Dealership found a bad cell in the battery and replaced the battery under warranty. They even put a better battery in 750 amps(the original battery was only 650 amps).
