New Here. Need help with a noise I'm hearing.

Hey, I purchased an '00 LS 2 months ago. I have been hearing a strange noise coming from the engine. The best way I can describe this noise is to say that it sounds like a whining/humming noise that will change pitch with the position of the throttle. I haven't been able to reproduce the sound unless I'm in driving - it doesn't do it at idle or in park even while revving.
The dealer I purchased it from tried to pass it off as a sound that is likely coming from the power steering pump and that it's common with most Ford vehicles. I've never heard this noise from a Ford product and I've owned one and 3 of my family members own one.
Does anyone know what this could be? The dealer is giving me down the road when I try to get them to repair it because they "forgot" to write it down on the contract for the items that I wanted them to repair.
If anyone could help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it. I love my LS but sometimes feel I got a bad car. BTW the carfax is clean on it, but there was broken glass all under the console, leading me to believe it had to have been wrecked.

Are you sure its not the infamous stereo buzz? Turn off your stereo and see if it goes away.

No, it's not the stereo buzz. I've tried that. I THINK it's coming from the engine, but after doing research I wonder if it could be the problem with the rear end/half shafts? Does that sound more like my problem? If so, where can I find more information?

Thanks all

Buzz from the tranny pressure regulator? Hydraulic fan pump? Alternator? A/C compressor or bearing? You may want to try and disconnect the fan belt and see if you can isolate the noise that way. But where you only hear it in gear, I tend to suspect a tranny noise.

That may be possible. I noticed yesterday that when the car is in 5th (auto tranny), it seems to "jerk" a little. Wondering if the tranny is slipping and the noise is part of that.

Yeah, sounds like tranny issues.

You guys have any idea what kind of tranny issues I may be looking at? I have an ASE master tech friend of mine that owns a shop who will take a look at it.
I'm just curious as to what to possibly expect.
Thanks
