Smelling Gas Inside CarGMAN July 19th, 2005, 11:26 PM Lately I've been smelling gas inside the car. Has anyone ever experienced this? evillally July 19th, 2005, 11:30 PM At wide-open-throttle, idle, cruising speed? Lincolnpimpin July 19th, 2005, 11:51 PM Have you over filled your tank lightly? 67Continental July 19th, 2005, 11:56 PM could be an exhaust leak, if you are running a bit rich. but it really could be a lot of things..... GMAN July 20th, 2005, 12:13 AM I smell the gas while I am at cruising speeds. Roughly around 45-55mph. Usually when I gas up, I fill it up completely. The only things I've done to to my Mark as of late is change the spark plugs, wires, and adde Magnaflow mufflers. Where would an exhaust leak come from? Lincolnpimpin July 20th, 2005, 12:26 AM . Usually when I gas up, I fill it up completely. I mean when gas starts overfilling seeping out the top and goes along the side of you car a decent amount? GMAN July 20th, 2005, 12:29 AM I mean when gas starts overfilling seeping out the top and goes along the side of you car a decent amount? No it dosen't seep out at all. Lincolnpimpin July 20th, 2005, 12:32 AM Okay, cause one time the gas lever didn't click off on time in my car and it seeped out the top and caused my car to smell like gas for month. evillally July 20th, 2005, 12:54 AM Your fuel filter could be clogged. Lincolnpimpin July 20th, 2005, 01:32 AM Your fuel filter could be clogged. Wouldn't that afect his amount of fuel getting to his engine causing it to start up slower to? evillally July 20th, 2005, 01:36 AM It could. Mine was clogged and I had odors on the highway, until I replaced the filter. It started fine... 1wykdmk8 July 20th, 2005, 02:01 AM Have you had the gas tank down for ANY reason lately, or had the tank itself open for a pump install or anything like that? :Beer NLOCNILMK8 July 20th, 2005, 03:29 AM It could have been if you did fill the gas tank up, till the gas is all the way up the filler tube. You should only fill the tank up untill the gas pump stops, not trying to get every last cent out of and get it as full as you can. When you do that, the tank can be so full and the gas can go threw your vent tube into the EVAP, and fill up the charcoal canister, and when it vents the canister (usually at higher speeds/40-60mph) it can cause a strong gas smell. Or the EVAP might not even be doing its job, and could cause a strong gas smell. Just an idea..... GMAN July 20th, 2005, 10:39 PM Have you had the gas tank down for ANY reason lately, or had the tank itself open for a pump install or anything like that? :Beer I haven't had the gas tank down at all. It just started smelling two fill ups ago. I sure hope it stops smelling soon. JMiles_T July 21st, 2005, 12:42 PM On my '93, my fuel vapor line had dry-rotted causing the car to smell like gas all the time, till I had it replaced. JC1994 July 21st, 2005, 09:55 PM my gas smell turned out to be a bad fuel injector. GMAN August 6th, 2005, 06:31 PM On my '93, my fuel vapor line had dry-rotted causing the car to smell like gas all the time, till I had it replaced. Where is the fuel vapor line? BlackMark8Li August 7th, 2005, 11:31 AM It could very well be a injector seal went.. next time you smell gas open your hood and check the top of your intake all around the fuel rail. if its wet with gas, you need to change your seals. 97MKVIIILSC August 11th, 2005, 02:40 PM I USED TO SMELL GAS IN MY CAR ALSO. IT WENT AWAY WHEN I REPLACED THE GAS CAP - APPROX $20. :monkey: | ||||
