Depends on how much you want to spend.

Superchips Tuning has good stuff. Brian Herron should be able to help you out there.

If you want to spend a little more money, get a Motec 880. Full, programable engine controller. Works great.
A little pricey, but what the hell, nothing is too good for your ride.

Right now, SCT XCalibrator II is the top seller. Good stuff! I plan of getting one after dropping my gears, exhaust, headers, and new heads and intake in. Going price is $375 with two programs via USB port. Defiantley check them out!

So on a list of mods to be added to your car would Performance chip be at the bottom or top?

I'd try to do as many mods before getting a chip. Some mods however, require a tune (engine upgrades, supercharger, etc.)

What about the LMS chip? SCT XCalibrator II does look impressive with all of its features I must admit!

OBD-I

Whats this mean???

On-Board Diagnostics

Depends on your engine computer. OBD-I is on earlier Mark VIIIs, while 96s and later have OBD-II.

Every car made from 96' on (I mean every single one, Kia, Ford, GM, you name it) has OBD-II. That is why all the OBD-II chips are 96' and up.

It all matters if you really think a chip should be your best investment, or your first choice in mods. The do quite a bit if you have mods done to the car aka supercharged, some bolt-ons, great way to tune the car to your mods. Pretty much stock car you won't notice THAT much. If your just going for a firmer shift with the transmission and thats all you really want to get out of your chip is that, its much cheaper to just perform the JMOD, better to physicaly change the fluid flow then just up the line pressure. I guess it all depends in the end what you want out of your chip.

i am assuming the chip is the only way to remove the rev limiter, in the case of rear gear changes, right?

On a stock car with a chip there is a big difference! The advanced timing really improves throttle response and if you up the line pressure the tranny shifts like it's supposed to.

Its really not that big of a change, I have driving a few Marks with diffrent chips, Speed Freaks, LMS, and I would say if your just want to do the chip, LMS's chip had the best feel. Still nothing beats doing mods, tuning chip to the mods, and doing the JMOD or other shift kits.

I am real happy with my LMS chip.

It has paid for itself already with the increased gas milage too !!!

Do the math!

On my slow arse '93 when it was 'stock'(drilled airbox & K&N panel filter), with the LMS chip my Tazzo VPC said I went from a prior

10.40 sec. @ 72.0 mph

to a

10.14 sec.@ 74.1 mph

in the 1/8th mile with heavier wheels and no other mods added. I was very happy with the 0.26 sec and 2.1 mph improvement. :D

Now with mods I average

9.3 sec. @ 76.4 mph

on a 1/8th mile run. My best 1/8th mile ET is 9.191 and my best 1/8th mile mph is 77.44. :steering
