Are Marks cop-magnets?!?

Are ALL Marks cop-magnets? Or just MINE?

I've only had my 98 silverfrost/light graphite LSC with 30K for a lil over a month now -- but I SWEAR, no matter what time of day or night I fire it up, cop cars just seem to suddenly pop outta NOWHERE, so it's starting to seem like I always have a police escort!

Sheesh, do other Mark owners experience the same situation? I bought my Mark coz it was soooooo understated, compared to all the flashy Vettes & Jags & Porsches & Escalades & Ferraris tooling around downtown Scottsdale. Even though my Mark is completely stock except for a recent dashmat "mod", I've never had a car that was such a total cop-magnet!!!

No problems here. Even with the loud exhaust the cops usually pass me by looking for the stang or ricer. Always under the radar. I think the cops are just appreciating the beautiful rear end of the 2nd gen's neon glow.

I have only been pulled over 3 times in my Mark:

1) Outta state plates.......go figure they figured I would just pay and be done....boy was that cop WRONG....went to court fought and actually won!

2) Was in a VERY bad mood and when I was doing 80 in a 65 and a cop pulled up behind me, I moved outta his way to get right in behind him and followed him at over 100MPH. He proceded to pull onto the shoulder after about 10 miles of me following him and he pulled me over, BUT he could only read me the riot act because I was following him at HIS speed....no ticket.

3) There was this on-ramp that I had to drive on daily onto the NY State Thruway and everyday I would try to go faster on it to see how fast I could go before it started to lose grip.....well, I was doing 75 on the on-ramp and sped up to almost 100 in a few seconds. The cops cut me a break and only gave me the ticket for the 75 in a 55 because they had to speed up to catch me to over 100 themselves....but did read me the riot act.

BUT, after I customized mine with the wheels and the exhaust I have had cops pull me over JUST to check it out.....especially when I was cruising by with no air in the air ride system by hittin the switch on my kit. That used to really piss me off....was funny, but pissed me off because it was ALWAYS somewhere where someone could see me that knew me and would get my balls busted to no end......oh well..... :Beer

Owned mine 6 years and have never been pulled over, in 6 years I have been pulled over 4 times in my Mustang, had it since 1992. been pulled over a total of 9 times in it and only got 1 ticket,TALK about a cop magnet!

The reason the cop don't pull some of us over some times I think its just b/c its a Lincoln,AKA (Grama Car) which I think is bull :q:q:q:q how everyone says its a lincoln its slow till you whip there ass then they STFU but ya. The other day I talked to a cop and he started to talk to me about my Mark and hes all like "Whats that got?" "So does it get up and go or what?" I was just like same as yours almost and joked around all like oh no it slow as hell he just laughed.
But ya I'm with Bryan cops are just appreciative of a beautiful machine. :Beer

day after i got my license got pulled over in the 90 mark vii i had (seatbelt ticket) argued wit the cop for alil while over how it was a lincoln. He was liek the registration doesnt say mustang, and i said thats becuase it isnt a mustang sir.lol.. with the 93 mark viii got pulled over (recklace and racing on a highway) wasnt the cars fault though.. i've gotten pulled over numorous times in the mark viii but other then the racing incident havent gotten tickets. Never had a problem when it was stock.. but ever since the wheels, exhaust, tint, and especially the cobra hood lol. And then not even 2 weeks ago i was driving my friend justin ( ILLVII) 's 5spd mark vii i got pulled over. We had been workin on it and i was only takin it around the block and i got a ticket for not having my license on me.. 180 dollar fine.

Ever notice that cops ALWAYS are speeding on the highway....whether they are enroute to an accident or someone being pulled over?? Well, as long as they are not going to the scene of anything and do not have their lights on they have NO more reason to speed than you do, so how are they gonna give you a ticket if they themselves are speeding....BUT, I would not test this. There are some cops that would not really care and still give you a ticket. I have done this several times and NEVER got a ticket.......Knock on wood.......knock, knock, knock :Beer

I only got one ticket, and that was for a burnout well 2 burnouts, I have straight pipes so it blows out your ear drums at WOT but around town its ok, but I lit them up and roasted my tires for about 250 feet maybe more when my friend was behind me, and then again and a stop sign but this time it wasnt my friend behind it was a cop that had his lights on for about a block. It must of been funning the cop thought I was going to stop at this lit in the middle of no where then I just lit them up like crazy, I tell you its the damn auto dim mirror that did it. But anyways I got pulled over cop said car sounds wicked and its quick too... but he said he has to right a ticket :( 75 dollars gone........night before the drag strip to

Thats not alway the case I know for a fact Ford Explore and Volvo engines will last that long IDK bout all the other cars you might need to rebuild them sooner though I think.

i get my oil changed with Mobil one full synthetic every 3 to 4,000 miles and
get the other stuff flushed out as sugested

The car itelf isn't a cop-magnet, it's your color:

silverfrost/light graphite

You color is very light and noticeable, day or evening. Don't take it the worng way- I actually like you color, it's quite attractive. But bright colors will jump out at us- think of why a stop sign is bright red and not black.

Also, bright colors help radar- true story. Dark colors like mine, or particularly forest green, midnight blue give the radar a tough time. A cop told me to always buy dark colors; he says his radar plays havoc when he tries to nab dark cars as opposed to the ease of bright colors- and that's why brighter cars like yellow, red, light blue, etc get pulled over more. Look up insurance statistics for more proof.

As for my personal proof:
I've been pulled-over for speeding once in my dark charcoal Mark. My black Conti- none. My light tan Crown Vic- twice, my charcoal Cougar XR7- none, my white Old's; 10 times! So color has alot to do with it too...

Well, when I lived on the East Coast I always had dark cars, but now that I live in Arizona, let's just say it's been 110 degrees every day for the past week -- so as far as black on black or the like, case closed!

Funny, most folk here on the boards talk about rolling the Marks outta storage and sighting them around town coz it's summer. It's just the opposite here -- with the scorching temperatures, most of the pretty Marks are usually tightly tucked away in air conditioned garages! But since I just got mine, how could I possibly resist driving it?

I just bought my 2nd MarkVIII last month, driving him up from Tampa.... On the way home to Ohio I was visiting friends some in ATL., some in Augusta. Crusin' between the two cities at about 95mph a car came up behind me. I wasn't used to those auto dimmer rear views or driverside mirror so I was surprised, I got right and when I looked over saw it was a cruiser!!!!!!!! I crapped my pants!!!! Broke my Mark down to 80 then figured what the .....and rode the cruisers tail all the way in, close to 100mph.

Majority of the ride up to Ohio from Tampa was mostly a clear path and brake lights thanks to my boys opalessent pearl white smile :) Best ride I've ever driven, now looking forward to the drive to Chicago for the meet - see ya all there :)))

sheit, we ALWAYS get stoped going to colorado... right in Hays, Kansas. the first time, we were going 103 in a 70 zone.... the cop pulled us over, asked that dumb question, "do you know how fast u were going?" and then told us it took him 15 minutes to catch us lol. the the second time is was an 89 in a 70. we went flying over this hill and the cop was at the bottom... the time, we pulled over for him :). but both troopers that stopped us knew what we had under our hood cuz they both gave us compliments, and one even said he wished the Marks could be there cruisers lol. yes... MY MARK is a magnet :L

Nope. I'm absolutely certain now.

The Mark VIII, 1990s Continentals, and Ford Mustang Cobra use the DOHC (four cams total) V8.

Current Crown Victorias use a V8 with a SINGLE camshaft for each cylinder head.

Episode 18: Beat the Radar Detector
Then the crew tests several speed-radar-busting tricks, including hanging a disco ball from the rearview mirror, covering the car entirely with aluminum foil, and painting the car with flat black paint to scatter the radar's laser beams.

I used to get away with ALOT in the AssassinVIIIor (http://www.markviii.org/~1wykdmk8/markbear.jpg) even WITH the exhaust/rims/lowering because the cops would roll out and I would slow down and they would speed RIGHT by me looking for a Camaro or Rustang because none of them would have, and did not suspect a Lincoln Mark VIII, or any Lincoln for that matter, to have a loud exhaust.....even with the huge-by-huge tips I had on the car. :Beer

Two weeks ago, I was on the planning committee for the Barclay's Classic PGA tournament @ West Chester Country Club in Hoity Toity West Chester NY.

Took Palisades Parkway... Got stopped twice... Got a ticket from a NY State Trooper, who actually commented more about my car than my speeding... Actually looked it over front and back! Even said, I like the wheels, but the exhaust looks illegal. I said you can barely hear it idol... LOL He said, plead "Not Guilty" come to court we'll work something out...
