California Emmissions

I don't know how big brother is where your at, but here in California your car needs to pass a visual and emissions smog check every two years (as a rule).
This makes any information regarding your emission control system vital to keeping your car on the road (why is that check engine light on???). It also makes any legal performance options hard to come by. So any tech info in this area would be very welcome.

Your car would be headed for the wrecking yard in the golden state. These smog guys will have you jumping through hoops if they even think things don't look kosher. The best part? The state says you have to go to them, but doesn't regulate what they can charge! It's like owning a mint!
