Airbag warning light

About two days ago my airbag light started flashing. May be a coincidence but it started right after I replaced the alternator. My wife, the smart one in the family, noticed it would flash five times, pause, then flash once, pause, then repeat, 5 - 1. I've used one of those hand held computers you plug into your car that tells you problems by flashing sequences. Sounds like the same thing. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
