What was everyone's first car?

My first car, bought by me, and not a 'hand-me-down', was a '34 Ford five-window coupe with a worked-over '48 Merc Flathead. Cost $100. I sold the engine for $50 and built a '55 Olds engine for it. It was channeled 11 inches but had a stock height top.

65 Mustang with the 289, 4 speed with gold color ari cleaner and valve covers, red with the red interior. It need some work to say the least. I paid $300.00 for in 1976. Sold it 4 yrs later for $1000.00. And bought a 80 turbo Mustang with 4 speed and the TRX package.

Ahhh, memories....

1964 Buick Wildcat 310 Aluminum Block V8

I loved that car, bought it for $200 and the only thing that ever went wrong with it was the starter. It was the middle of winter, a friend of my dad's was gonna help me change it, so he got under there, cussing about how tight the bolts were. He broke the head off the bolt only to realize that it was left hand threaded. My dad scrapped the car while I was off at Military school cause he didn't think I wanted it anymore. Then I really started getting into cars and bought my share of beaters...

74 VW Super Beetle
81 Ford f150
85 Escort
72 Pinto Wagon, dropped a 302 with 573 rear and ran 5's in the 1/8th
84 Mustang GT - 351
51 Chevy Pickup 5 window Straight 6 with 600k miles before she gave up the ghost
78 Malibu 4 door
85 Mustang LX
77 LTD
86 Lebaron Conv't
84 Celica GT
99 Chevy Tracker - Still going strong
89 Mustang LX 5.0
99 Mustang GT 35th Anniversary Edition
96 Ford Deathstar minivan
98 Chrysler Town and Country LXi
98 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC

My first car was a beautiful 1968 Rambler American 4 door with three on the tree and a massive straight six (252 cubic inches of screaming American muscle). My dad bought it for me my junior year in high school for $300 in New Mexico.
Sold it to my older brother two years later for $600 and bought a '68 Chevelle SS396 for- hold your breath- $600; but the engine blew a few months later. Of course, I had nothing to do with that.....

The 1980s convinced me to dump GM and move to Ford land- been mostly grinning ever since- especially with my Mark VIII ('97) and LS ('00).

1953 Henry J. Flathead 4, 3 on the column - moved to the floor. Cost $165.

89 Isuzu Trooper (ugly but reliable)
97 Isuzu Rodeo (still have it)
I took my first driving test in a '66 polara, 2 door hard top, with a 383 4bbl.

I loved my '66 GTA...it eventually turned low 12's, at about 110mph, it launched with the front tires about 2" off the ground, with street exhaust, and street legal tires.

'65 Ford Econoline van in Miami, FL. It boasted 240 cubic inches of raw 6-cyl power between the front seats. Got it in 1973 and had great fun fixing it up.

After it was stolen, I got a '64 Ford Galaxie convertible with a 352 and no a/c - a real problem in Miami. Gas hog even without A/C.

Favorite car had to be a '77 T Bird.

But the current '04 LS is the prettiest.

1991 Chrysler New Yorker 5th Avenue - Mark Cross Special Edition
--- the big blue beast ---
power EVERYTHING sunroof/moonroof/seats/windows/locks/sideviews.... and a million other things that didn't need to be power bbut it was the the early 90s and chrysler was trying to show of their technical prowess evidently... the whole car was blue leather inside... amazing.
the only problem is one day a major fuse blew and that power everything idea didn't react well. lost my digital dash display, my HUD, my power brakes, my power steering -- everything! but the car was still running!
it lived on after that but went to pieces after i let it sit all winter in my driveway while i was away at school, it took me about 2 hours to jump it back to life for one last trip out when i came home for a break... and the tranny went at 198,986 miles. on an onramp. during rush hour.

Starting at age 16

1. 69 Camaro RS/SS Completely restored but at 9 mpg, I couldn't afford to drive it. Kept it for less than one year. My dad built the car and gave it to me so I gave it back because I wanted a 77 Cutlass Salon. The Camaro only had 13 miles on it and was restored from the frame up. I can't really remember a lot about the engine but I wanna say he built the original 350 complete with 350 horse heads that he had machined and a 750 DP and the car was never painted, only the engine was. It had brown primer while I had it but before the restore, it was red with the white striping and the top was white also, I do remember that much about it.
Yeah, now I wish I had it back.

Good thread!

My 1st was a 1990 Ford Probe Turbo, cherry red. Bought it for $1500 from an older dude with blown shocks, rode back home down I-4 bouncing like a speed boat.
It was actually a nice car (I was 16 lol), it was in almost perfect shape. Replaced the shocks, bought some intrax springs and a manual boost controller. That little b!tch was quick.
This was my intro to boost addiction but not fast cars, my brother had driven a fox-body 90 GT for the longest time growing up w/ all the bolt-on goodness... I think that car turned me on to my auto-addiction the most.

It was a 5 speed 4x4 by far one of the greatest vehicles I had ever owned until the rear drive shaft fell off....I pulled that off and put it in 4low and drove a jeep in front wheel drive.

My first car was a 1978 Nova Custom 4spd. I bought it when I was 14 sight unseen from a guy my father worked with, Paid $300 for it. Swapped the 305 for a 350, added a centerforce clutch and beat it for 3 years. Sold it for $300 when I was 18

Posted by: ecarlcl

My car history:

1978 Mustang II, German built 2.8L V6 (predecessor to the 2.9L and 4.0 OHV), and a 4 speed. Had about 90 HP stock. There were riding lawn mowers that could get away from it. Brown but not the factory brown. This was a much "brighter" shade like a lightly used penny. It grew on a lot of people. Chicks loved it. Kinda wish I still had it. Sold it with ~125k

1990 Jeep Cherokee, Black, 4.0L, 5 speed. Last year for the renault/bendix injected 4.0's before Chrysler bastardized everything. Had a lot of problems with the clutch and cooling system. Drove the wheels off of it. Sold it to a Mexican guy for $875

1991 Jeep Cherokee, Black, 4.0L, 5 speed. Basically the same except a different color tape stripe and two more doors. A few more options too. I have a 3" lift and 31's on it. It's got 203,000 miles on it. I haven't sold it yet because I might need something that can get torn up at work occasionally so the Lincoln can stay safe at home.

2002 Lincoln LS8, Black, 71,000 miles. Needed a change after 5 years of Jeeps.

My first was a 1994 buick roadmaster wit an LT1. Even with its size i think it could have took my LS in the 1/4. I ran the hell out of that car it would spin for days.

Posted by: pektel

I can only speak for the 1994-1996 Impala SS, but that car with the LT1 had 260 hp. 0-60 in just over 7 seconds, and ran the 1/4 mile in 15.4 at 91.1mph. Gen 1 LS V8 had 252 HP, and made it to 60 in 7.3 in stock form. What's a safe bet for a good driver for a 1/4 mile estimate?

The LT1 did have more torque. iirc it was in the low 300's.

K&N typhoon intake, sprint springs over Tokicos, racing seats, reverse indiglos w/brushed almn.bezel, those were my 3rd set of rims(4th incl.the stocks), the wing (which most of u hate! lol), C/F invader hood, pedals, shift boot, shift knob, exhaust, cstm blk housing headlights, HID kit, etc. etc. etc...... I never relized that lil cost so much! I still have it, needs an axle... low low milage too, like under 50Gz!!! I think I will fix it, better on gas....and hella fun 2 drive!!!

1990 Ford Taurus wagon in burgundy. My mom got it in January of 1995 and only put about 25K miles on it until 2005, when I started driving it. In terms of comfort and utility, that car is awesome. With the rear seats down the cargo capacity is amazing. It rides like a couch on wheels. Also very reliable. I just brought it in for regular maintenance, with 106K on the odo. Oil change, tighten tranny pan, and add more trans fluid. Tranny fluid was cherry pink with no shavings or dirt. The only repairs every done to it was when my mom hit the wheel against the curb and ruined the steering. Also the alternator and starter both replaced twiced over a period of 10 years. The car really takes some abuse and remains faithful.

My second car was a 97 maxima gle that I bought off my friend last june. It has enkeis, eibachs with tokico blues, injen cai (only good for launching thats it, you lose power at higher gears). I also had a straight through cat and exhaust. It was decently fast...until a lady blew a red light and i T boned her going 30. (im ok).

I just got my norsea blue 05 LS ultimate 3 weeks ago...Pics will be up soon

My first was a 98 trans am with thw ws6 package. Totalled that and found probably the nicest 93 lx 5.0 you will ever see in your life. Unfortunately that was stolen and never recovered.

My first car was my 2002 S10 Zr2, and it looked like this:

I spent lots of money modding it, and also learned tons about cars from working on it.

Still have it, only now it looks like this:

My first two cars were Gremlin's. A '70 then a '74. Yeah they suck, but good cheap transportation for a high schooler and you can fix one with a hammer, duct tape and a pipe wrench.

I had a '75 Rabbit, '76 Cutlass, '80 Toyota 4X4, and then came the Fords. '88 Mustang, '89 Ranger 4X4 (had it for 13 years) and a '95 T-Bird which I bought new and still have.

I just bought an '05 LS last week and my wife has a '07 Outlander 4WD

My first car was a 1949 ford club coupe black with aflathead v/8, and I bought it for $35.00 . july of 1957, and I had it until I ran into the back of a bus a year later.
That was when I learned about keeping your eyes on the road and not on my girlfriends legs.:

Didn't know they made mark viii's in '89. Try the "auto parts for sale" forum.

1987 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 handed down from my older brother. You've probably hear of it "The Ranger". You know, it made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs.

I loved that POS. It killed me to get rid of it.

Is there a smily with a single tear running down its cheek?

1949 Ford convertible (purchased in 1958 when 16 yo) - repainted it powder blue, nosed, decked, lowered, fender skirts, flames painted on sides, dice hanging from mirror - a real fun chick machine. Wish I had it now.

A 1991 Ford Thunderbird. Had a big dent on the side and a broken window. When I lost it ::Sad Day:: I had fixed a lot of things. The dent was all that was left.

My first was a '41 Plymouth (in '46). Now, that was a tank- good for a 16 year old!!

Posted by: S117MC

I got it in February 1998. I was only 16 and it was a 5-speed so it was really fun to drive. Speedometer goes to 125 and I got it there on multiple occasions. It's still sitting at my parents' house, but needs a fuel pump and windshield.

Posted by: jinx8402

My first car was a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 2-door. It was pretty much the GTP, as it had the 3.4 DOHC and the body package on it. Just did not have the sports suspension. I had purchased the car in the summer of '01. It lasted me 5 mostly good years. I purchased my '00 Lincoln LS in the summer of '06.

I probably could have kept it longer, and to this day, I wish I had kept it instead of selling it to a friend for $500. Within a few months he had wrecked it. That saddened me seeing my first car being wrecked by someone else. The car was peppy, and I had always planned on doing some mods to it.

1988, saphire blue, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Classic. dark blue vinyl top. five spoke rally rims. 307 V-8 automatic transmission. Power moon roof, power windows, power seat, power mirrors, AM/FM casset. then i rolled it and walked away

First Car...a red 1966 Pontiac LeMans 2-door hardtop, ohc 6 with three on the floor. A real runner that I bought with only 47,000 miles in 1975 with $300 that I saved by mowing lawns.

The first FLM was a 1979 Mercury Cougar XR7. What a floater, and not too bad on gas with the 351 automatic.

Now we have my '99 Navi, the wife's 30K mile 2001 Mustang 'vert and the daughter's '03 Escape XLT...Ford family all the way!

My 1st car was an Orange 1972 or 1973 Lincoln Mark IV. Usually people lose change in their car, I however lost a lot more than that during my cruising days before the tranny went out! That car was nice! It also featured the half tonneau top, power seats, locks, and windows!

1990 pontiac transport se i was 16

Posted by: Mustang Man

It was a great first car at age 16, colored Indian Fire/black interior, 351W, FMX transmission and Cragar SS wheels. Shortly after purchasing it I had the engine modified with a Lunati cam from a Boss 302 (changes the firing order, too), Offenhouser aluminum intake and Holley 650 four-barrel. The exhausts remained factory, with the bullet-style resonators and across-the-axle ("crossflow") muffler.

I have attached a picture of an almost identical model, same color but mine had no spoilers. My second Mustang had them, though -- it was a 1971 Boss 351 -- a real wheelie machine that I got rid of for a 1973 Opel GT (the "mini-'vette") in 1974 because of the "gas crunch".

I am now in the process of restoring a 1967 Mustang Convertible, also with a 351W, AOD transmission (gotta have that overdrive these days), reproduction 289 Hi-Po cast iron exhaust manifolds and a 2-1/2" Magnaflow stainless steel "X-Pipe" exhaust system. I am negotiating with Total Control Products to produce online video for installation of their products -- wish me luck! They already have pictures of their product installations, but no video.

If LVC members send them requests for video instructions to see what it is really like, then it will increase my chances of getting them to "bite".

Regards,

Mark
