What was everyone's first car?

This may have already been posted, but I could not find it. Mine was a 1991 Ford Probe Turbo GT. 5 speed manual, 155 horses, pure adrenaline. lol

Posted by: crazyman

197? Ford Fairmont. 4 cylinder, auto, baby sh*t brown. Couldn't have had more than 90hp. Top speed was almost 55 mph. The more work I did to it the worse it ran. To this day it's still the most pathetic car I've owned. The funny thing was that the body and interior were great. If it had had even a 6 cylinder it probably would have been an ok car.

Posted by: Ric

First ride was a 1965 MGB, then I increased the cylinder count by 50% with an MGC, then another 100% with a Jag XKE V12. Come to think of it, I'm feelin pretty damn old driving a car like the LS.

Posted by: Motts

first car was a 88 fiero Gt 2m6 had some balls till it caught on fire.. then i gota 99 Mountianeer..

Posted by: Hawk03

1980 Chevy Impala which was totaled three days after I got my license. Someone rear ended me and bent the frame pretty good. I made some nice insurance money from it.

Posted by: 2k2ls

1986 chrysler lebaron. pure pos. used to use it to smash garbage cans

Posted by: SolacE

1986 Pontiac Grand Prix. White with blue vinyl top. Had 286,000 miles when I got it and nearly 400,000 when I sold it.

LMAO!!!! I used my 87 Buick LeSabre (my first registered car) to do that too!! I thought I was the only one!!! My first car was a 56 chevy that my dad gave to me when I was a year old, and it's currently under a complete restoration.

Posted by: didjital|

A bone stock 1990 S-10.. Best part is I've still got the old girl.
(Shes in my photo garage)

Next step is new wheels to go with the last recent mod of a body channel (body drop) and some new skin (thinking of PPG highspeed platinum silver!)

Posted by: DLS8K

Posted by: ambisonics

White on white '85 Eldorado inherited from my grandparents with about 45,000 miles on it. The car was garaged it's whole life and was in excellent condition. I still have it, but don't drive it all that much and it's got some rust spots. When I'm done with school in another year or so I plan on restoring it. I have pictures of it in my Photo Garage. I also had a 2000 Dodge Dakota R/T bright blue and all hooked up. I still have a car domain page for it actually. Here's the link if anybody's interested.

Posted by: scott61023

I started with a 1968 Dodge Coronet 440. It had a 318 that burned more oil than gas. I put in Valve steam seals in my driveway and it stopped smoking. That got rear ended and I got a 1972 Chev Camaro.
1978 Buick Regal
1988 Chev Baretta GT 5 Speed. (My first new car)
1996 Ford Thunderbird.
1985 Olds Cierra (Money issues)
1992 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer
2000 Ford Mustang Conv. V6
2001 Lincoln LS V8

Wow thats 9 cars. But I found a keeper.

My first car (in 1988) was a 1977 Ford Granada Ghia, with the 302 California. 122 HP. Motor Trend ran it 0-60 in 14.2 seconds. It was a great car.

Woulda loved to have met your TR3 on the road with my lite snack. Six cyl. MGC with a .60 overbore. 3/4 race cam, triple SU's, Pirahna ignition, two speed elec overdrive and water injection. Ran it on some very fat rubber mounted on Minilites that would only fit after the suspension was worked and all four corners were flared. Routinely embarassed the sh*t outa the local muscle car drivers in front of their dates.

1984 Pontiac Firebird SE -- Bought with $3000 of my own hard earned and saved cash from bagging groceries. Bought it in February of 1996. Traded it in that November for:

1991 GTA Trans Am -- I miss that car. Traded it in May of 1999 for:

1999 Trans Am (Brand New) -- Sweet ride, but embedded with problems. Lemon lawed that car in February of 2000 and in march 2000 bought:

1993 Trans Am (still have) -- This car is my toy, baby, and bane of my existence, all at once. Then, in October 2001, I added my beater/daily driver:

1989 Toyota Celica (still have) -- Free, 34 MPG, nuff said. Then a deal came along in June of 2003 for:

Another 1993 Trans Am (still have) -- Fully modded (heads, cam, ect) and got it for $6000. And lastly, in December of 2004, we got

the 2000 Lincoln LS. Refinement and fun all wrapped into one of the nicest cars I've had the pleasure of being around, save for multiple expensive trips to the dealership who doesn't know how to diagnose a fuel pum issue.

1993 Pontiac Firebird - black, leather, fun car. For some reason I traded for a cavalier and then for my LS.

But I replaced it with a 1973 Mach 1... 351 Cleveland... And then that got totalled... I had so many I can't count that high.

Posted by: SoonerLS

My first car was a well-used '80 Ford Fiesta. That little 1600 engine didn't have much pop on its best day, but by the 120,000 miles on the clock when I got it, it was too pooped to pop. It was a lot of fun, though; I learned a great deal about opposite lock and handbrakes on curved gravel roads.

It was great for a kid. It wasn't worth anything, so there was no loss if you damaged it (other than the loss of transportation ), and it didn't have enough acceleration to get you in trouble, but it was fun to toss around. It was a true Sally Rand: no AC, no power steering (in a car that small, no loss), not even a cut-out for a radio. And, quite frankly, I'd've expected the Germans to make a better heater than that--it really only worked as an auxiliary radiator in the summer.

My first cool car would be a toss-up between my '66 Galaxie 500 (2-door, pillalrless hardtop, 4-bbl 390, 3-onna-tree) or my '89 T-Bird SC. It hink the SC wins by a hair: 325ft-lbs of torque is a wonderful thing; I learned even more about opposite lock and handbrakes on curved gravel roads.

FWIW, I still have the Fiesta and the Galaxie, both parked up on the hill behind the house. The Galaxie is almost in running condition, too.

1963 rambler with fold down front seats ( a blast at the drive in ) automatic with no reverse. Paid $40 in 1972. The trans quit all together after about 6 months. I tried to blow up the engine but chickened out after a few minutes with the pedal to the floor. Fun car then a 1969 Roadrunner. Cruisin Woodward Avenue & Gratiot Avenue in Detroit early 1970's Was the best.Racing,Girls, Beer,& hanging out was the thing to do. Still is come to think of it ( Designated Driver of course ).

Dude, 3 SHOs! Nice! Here is my list:

First car (1993):
1968 Mustang Coupe 289/4 Barrel Holley. A great car to start on as it needed some help getting it "worthy".

Next up, 1990 Taurus SHO, blk/blk. I went from a '68 Mustang with no A/C to a car that had auto activating headlamp and climate control. Man this car was fun. It also got owning a black car out of my system.

The Taurus begat a 1996 Nissan 240SX SE. Very fun to be sure, but unfortuately for me, I only learned of it potential AFTER I traded it in...

...on a 1998 Mustang Cobra :-D . This would have been great, but the car had something going on with its rear-end. It got to be that I found myself unable to enjoy the car for fear of breaking something (moral, only get something like a Cobra if you have a second daily driver type). This car though was so fun though.

I traded the Mustang in on a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE, my current car. Possibely looking at the LS as my next car. Funny how I seem to go Ford to Nissan and back...

BTW, this is my first post here.

Posted by: Beamer

I believe my sig tells the order of my cars from first to recent. But if not, my first was a hand me down '89 Ford Ranger that was my dads. We moved to NC and had 3 vehicles and there was 3 of us. Than came my favorite car that I still almost cry about selling a year ago, my 1988 cavalier z24 2.8L w/ a wooping 130 HP, but 160 lbs of torque that made that car move and spin tires like nothing, 5 spd, power nothing and it had a sunroof. No a/c either but I loved that car. The sound of the 2.8L made me smile, especially after I lost the muffler, TALK ABOUT LOUD and knowing I was coming from miles away!

Oh and beating brand new civics who thought they were the crap w/ their coffee cans and intake. Alot of people thought it was a 5.0 stang, I guess the sexy boxy style of it made it look like one at a glance. Got to the point where I was fed up w/ people calling it a 5.0 so I put a z24 decal on the front window and a nice big bow-tie on the back.

Couple of pics of her:

1986 Honda Civic Si - Red hatchback.
That car was dope. I miss it. Sold it when I moved from Washington State to GA. One time I got a rust hole in the stock muffler and it sounded just like the rice burners do with their new mufflers.

Posted by: Arnett

1980 Honda Prelude with so much rust, you could throw a cat thru the side of it.

Hey Beamer! Did you like your Z24? I had one just like that when i was younger. Mine was pretty fast with the SuperChip and exhaust. I kinda miss that car.

Posted by: Beamer

Did I like it? Haha, I LOVED THAT CAR! It was so much fun to drive. Mine was all stock but for an econo car it was awesome, was going to do an 3400 swap if I still had it. I regret selling it everytime I think about it, was in great shape, lil' rust and the 2.8L had 30,000 less miles than the car so when I sold it, it had maybe 80,000 something. If I could go back I would have never sold it, got the LS w/out that money and that is why I wanted to sell it, one of many mistakes.

Posted by: JES_LS

Well let's see do you mean first car you owned or first car you really drove (or should I say vehicle since I rode a Motorcycle in High School six months before I had my license)?

My name was on the title to my Grandfather's 66 mustang when I was 14 (inherited from grandmother, but could not be the sole owner at the time).
My first street car was a 1980 triumph tr7 spider, that blew the motor the week after the guy I bought it from moved. So I ended up swapping the tr8 v8 into the car and using it as my first daily driver (whiel I fought with my mother over what restoring the 66 really meant to each of us). I sold the tr7/8 to a friend who still has it when I was in the AF and used the 66 when I needed a car.

I'll have to update my sig tonight to list most of my vehicles (well the street cars atleast). You will see that I have been a FoMoCo guy for a long time with just a couple of strays to other brands.

Gee now that I type it all out I see three things clearly,
1. I probably should have said Mustang guy over FoMoCo.
2. Only Two of those cars where Auto tranmissions and I hated both of them very much (I'm not counting the LS since I'm working on the swap).
3. I can clearly see I'm not the "Just transportation Sedan" type of guy. Even the pathfinder was sporty in the "go ahead and get it muddy" sort of way.

Posted by: w0by

My first car when I was 18 was a dark blue 1993 Lincoln Town Car Executive series...with 130,000 miles on it....bought it for $4,500...sold it 2 years later for $4,500 also.

I learned to drive on (I think it was a 1961) Lincoln Continental (Note: the car was not new when I learned to drive ). I can park anything now.
The first car that was mine was a 1976? Ford Pinto - I'm sure any Highway Patrol who saw me flying by never believed a Pinto was going that fast.
several cars in between then and now...
.... looking forward to getting back to a Lincoln - an LS....

A 9 year old 1966 Lincoln 4 door convertible which I bought right after graduating college.

I was lucky, in that my Dad let me borrow his 1966 Lincoln sedan on occassions, in high school, and in college.

I "beat" a 1969 Road Runner in the sedan, where we hit 118 MPH at one point. The guy gave me a big thumbs up. My buddy did not speak to me for a half year after that.

My first car was given to ME by my Uncle Phill, I had just turn 17 and it was my last year of school. He gave ME a 1951 Ford 4-door that didn't run ! My father gave me a set of craftmans tools for Christmas and my mother gave me a Chiltaine Book on the car! So this kept me in school and working a job after school and working on the car on weekends ! my father would stick he head in the grarge every once in a while and shake his head as to how I was doing on the motor ( flat head V8 ) took me 6 mo. but I had it running ! My dad took it for a ride and told me it was saft to drive so we put the plates on it ,I painted it Baby Blue with a little angle on the back ! Drove it until I join the Navy in 1965. ( gave it to my little brother ).

Now I Have: 1985 Cadillec Seville
1978 Ford E-150 Conversion Van
1978 Honda 750 Super Sport motorcycle

1968 Firebird bought in '71 when I was 19. Insurance was $650.00 a year. That was a lot of dough for a teenager. My fiance suggested I put the car in her name to get an annual premium of $250.00. I sold he the car for $1.00 and other "valuable considerations". I went out and spent the difference on an engagement ring. Two weeks later I get a notice that I've been made an excluded driver on my own car!!!! Luckily I had a work truck that I got to take home at night, only because I lived in a safer neighborhood than the shop was in.

Now I have:

1956 Continental Mark II convertible
1968 Lincoln 6-door limo
1977 Lincoln Town Car
1988 BMW 750iL
1988 BMW 325iX
1997 BMW Z3
1998 Mercedes ML-320

Wish list:

1956 Bently Continental S-1 cabrio (only 31 LHD made)
1955 Porche 356 Continental cabrio (only 121 convertibles made)
1970 Type 1 E-type Jaguar (lots made, this one my wife wants)

I've owned two SHOs. I bought a '92 in Feb '95, then at the end of Aug '95, traded it for a '95. I owned the '95 up 'til last year, when I gave it to my brother in exchange for re-roofing my house. Immense amounts of high-speed fun.

In '96, I almost bought a V8 SHO from an OKC stealership, but the dorks wouldn't deal. They wanted more for their used '96 SHO than some dealers were asking for new ones (I even brought in an ad from the Denver paper, and they wouldn't budge). At a time when over half of all new '96 SHOs were still sitting on dealer lots, these guys tried to claim that they were having no trouble selling them. Yeah, right. They also wanted full retail for a '95 SHO that had obviously been smacked fairly severely both front and rear; based on the quality of the "paint job" on the nose and tail, I had no faith in any other related repairs. They tried to claim that it hadn't been in a collision, but even Ralph Nader would have known that it was damaged goods.

FWIW, the first car that I bought was a beater '78 T-Bird. I loved it, but driving down the highway, it looked like a destroyer escort laying down a smoke screen; it used gas and oil in an almost 1:1 ratio.

For my 16th birthday, my dad bought me a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I with the 428 SCJ engine and an "R" code scoop mounted on top of the engine. It was candy apple red and had the rear window louver as well as both front and rear spoiler. An original Colorado car, it had no rust and was in awesome shape. I managed to hold on to the car for 20 years before I had to sell it to support my wife and kids. Here is a shot of the car about 6 months before I sold it........By the way, my dad paid $2450 for it back in 1978 and still thought he overpaid the guy.

PS I now drive a 90 black on black LSC SE. Here is the url for my beast:

Well, this really takes me back in time.
My first car was a brand new 57 ford fairlane 500 convertible.
I bought it in October of 56 when they were first introduced.
It was fully loaded with a price of $2200.00
I don't have any pictures of that first car but, the one pictured below is just like the one I had.
The only difference was where this one is red, mine was dark purple.
Mine had a black and white interior.
The purple and white combo was a real eye catcher.
Gee, I haven't thought about that car for a long time.

When I wrecked the purple convertible, I bought a twin to this one shown, right down to the continental kit and fender skirts.

I had a '70 R Code car that I sold in 1978 for $2800 and thought I raped the guy. If I only knew...I think I saw an original go for 120k at Barrett Jackson this year. But I'll tell you a worse one. My very first car was a 1963B Galaxy 500XL with a 427 and a 4 speed. I paid $300 for it used! It even came with the 2 4bbl option that was dealer installed...but had never been installed. It was still in the trunk. I sold the 2 x 4 setup for $100 and was in the car $200. I eventually blew the motor up and sold it for $100. God was I naive back then. But the best story is a buddy of mine who had a hemi 'Cuda (1971 I believe) He GAVE it to his fiance. They broke up. She took it back to the farm in Idaho and drove it for a month until one day it wouldn't start. She parked it next to the hay field where it sat for years. She finally GAVE it to a guy for the cost of hauling it off. She knew I wanted that car too. I hate her to this day!!

Our family's kids (me included) started on a handme down car, that luckily was manual transverse 4, late 70s Plymouth Horizon. ..What fun, lemme tell ya!

You think you had a bad car to start with??
Nope.
In cold Minnesota winters while going to Mpls. Art Institute (back then anyway), the accelerator froze to the floor and at that point, had to call in help. That car burned through several clutches while getting the hang of hating manual trans cars hehe

Traded the sorry thing in towards what I refer to as my '1st' car, in reality. A dealership, used find; (Ford dealership) 1982 Cutlass Supreme V6 3.8.
That car broke down and was sold off at that point. After about a month or two, found another 1982 Cutlass to own. Moved up from there to get a 1984 Biarritz Eldo (starting my renewed love of Cadillacs). That car was subsequently sold for my 1989 ASC modded convertible Formula 350 Firebird! That one I still have along with my 1988 Cadillac Deville I got off eBay last year for $510 total! That car hails from NJ and is virtually rust free but has seen rain and one winter here

My first car was my most recent before buying my 00 LS. 93 AWD Eagle Talon Tsi. I built the hell out of that car. Put down well over 400 awhp. I always wanted a luxury car. So when I came across this deal I parted my car out. I have owned my Ls for 3 months and it almost payed off with the money from my Talon. Best pass was 11.7@ 118 spinning all of first and most of second. I kinda miss the power but that when I break out the bike!

got to love it.

My very first car was a 1951 Plymouth Cranbrook 4-door sedan. It had a flathead 6, three on the tree, and rusted out floor boards. You could actually see the world go by underneath you. It had a red bottom and a white top with one of those old metal sun visors over the windshield. It had been painted with a brush and what looked like barn paint and I paid $50.00 for it in 1962. I drove it for about a year and sold it for $85.00 and bought a 1955 Buick Century 2-door hardtop (also painted with a brush) but at least it had an OHV V8 but a DynaFlop automatic transmission.

My first car was a 1975 Olds Tornado. It had a 4-barrel carb with, I believe, a 450 c.i. engine. The car would go anywhere: mud, snow, muddy off-road hills, and 60 degree uphill streets in snow. I had huge snow tires, and a 250 watt sound system which provided music, with the trunk open, in a 100 yard radius. Now I have a 2005 LS Sport V8, and I am with the girl whom I dated when I had the Tornado. Her husband died 4 years ago, and, 25 years later, we're back together. Don't give up hope!

I had a pontiac ventura sj. At 18, I abused the hell out of it. Well worth the $300. It had a V6 and by the end of the year it became a inline 3! An underrated off road vehicle that often hauled up to 10 people at a time with a trunk full of ice and beer.

My first car was a white 1994 4.6L V8 Thunderbird got it in Nov. of 99 for $10k killed when I un-intently tried to make it into a compact with the help of a van on I-95. I got to say, I’m amazed how well the car took the hit. 70 MPH into the back of a van doing about 45 I had no trace of headlamps left and the hood was fubar but the car still drove fine. The guy from the progressive was cursing when he looked at it said he has to total it because of the law but there’s no reason it couldn’t be fixed. The back of the van was gone though the doors where pushed in and bumper was hitting the tires

Second came a 1992 Thunderbird Supercoupe got for $1200 don't know if this one counts since it really just ended up being a parts car. However, it was driven from time to time

My third car was a Black 1996 4.6L V8 Thunderbird I got in feb of 01 for $12,000. She was my baby. Still sitting in my driveway engine still strong as an ox but tranny has issues was going to get it fixed till the lock cylinder broke, now I have to pull the battery and hit the fuel cut off to turn the dam thing off. I know its a simple fix but enough was enough went out and bought my LS the next day. Giving her to a buddy of mine who needs a car.

1987 Nissan 200SX SE V6 - Same V6 as 300ZX, 300 LBs lighter ;-)

Fun car, but it was just too old, and things just started going when I started driving it a lot...Once the (pretty much) whole braking system went, then it was time for it to go.

Now I have my 2003 Mustang SVT Cobra, and my 2000 Lincoln LS V8.

It was a 1973 or 74 F-100. I got it in 1979 or 80.

Crashed it in '81 or '82.

-1999 Ford Explorer Sport - Dec 2003-March 2004... only car my mom would let me drive at the time
*-2002 Mineral Grey Ford Mustang GT (traded in for 2004 Navi) - March 2004-June 2004... had an "incident", convinced my mom I was "safer" in her Navi, so she let me keep it:
*-2002 Lincoln Navigator (traded in for LS) July 2004-September 2005
-2004 Silver Birch Lincoln Navigator 4x2 Ultimate - October 2004-May 2005 (alternated between the two Navi's)
-2006 Ceramic White Pearl Lincoln LS V8 - September 2005-present

All but the last two have been "hand-me-downs". :\

My first car was a Volga Gaz-24, it's a Russian car, when I was in Armenia. It was a 1974 car in very nice condition. My grandfather bought it when it was new. It is a 4 cylinder car with a 2.4 engine, a 4 speed manual transmission and a rear wheel drive. I got it in 98 and when I came to USA in 99 I bought a 89 VW Golf with stick, then a 99 Mercury Mystique LS V6 with 10k miles (still have it), then my LS, after that a 90 BMW 325i (getting it repainted right now).

the Jag was a beautiful car. A friend of mine bought it new and the day he bought it, brought it over to show me...I loved it, and a few years later, he passed away and I bought it off his estate...I had it til last fall when the body started to bubble in the regular places and sold it...wife says too many vehicles! I had some electrical problems...cruise worked off and on...I rewired all 4 marker lights and the speedo would bounce around on occasion but thats about all. Sold it with 60K on it...was still a smooth running machine but the LS is substanitally quicker and way better handling. Thanks for asking and now you've resurrected memories making me miss her!!!

Posted by: 90lincoln

I bought a 1967 Olds Delmont 88 dealer car for $700 when I was 16 back in 1976. It had a 425cu Rocket eng very tight. Needless to say I wrecked it two weeks later. I kept it for about a year until I trashed it (young and dumb). After that I became a Honda XL 250 owner.

Posted by: Wonhunglo47581

Yeah...my uncle spoiled me and gave me his 2000 Ls and i love every minute of driving it.

Posted by: Gadgets

The first car I owned was a 1958 VW Bug, until the floor rotted out. Then I bought a 1962 body and put my 58 engine in it and drove that, with no heat during the cold Canadian winters of high school

Posted by: nobody222

My first car was a 1994 Lincoln Continental, that my parents bought for me. (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2041148/1)

Its actually the car I'm still driving!

Man, I had forgotten all about that model--thanks for the memory jogger. We're the same age and my dad had a '69 Olds 442 that was a blast to drive...until I broke 3 valve springs in it about 6 months after I got my license. This is when I learned just how mad my dad could get without actually killing me. When I had to fix what I had broken with my own hands it certainly gave me a newfound respect for it! Ironically enough, my first car had no valve springs...(Mazda RX-3)
