Auto trans no j-mod

I wish my car would do that. It shifts into O/D (4th) just north of 95. Granted, I have 3.73 gears, but you'd think I could keep it in third. This is even when I push the O/D off - the computer overrides it and shifts. The O/D light goes out. The 3-4 shift is around 5000 rpm. 1-2 and 2-3 are above 6000. Anyone know why? It KILLS my trap speeds. 14.5 @ 95

you need to reprogram your computer that will allow you to change your shift points. The bad news...they cost about 400.00 bucks!!!

Get a SCT chip...they retail for around $325 from most vendors. Your ECU doesnt know you have 3.73's, that's all.

Nice video...6500 rpm shift at WOT... something isnt right...or your tach is way off. Either that, or you have a chip. I noticed the rpms flatlined at about 6000 though, so it wasnt doing much between 6000 and 6500...hopefully it is just an errant tach, otherwise you're buzzing that motor for nothing. It "paused" at 55 mph until the shift...

as far as hitting 100 in second gear, that is why...your car should shift at 94-95 mph right at 6000 in second gear, if stock with 3.07's.

but, that said...that is one nice sounding Mark...looks as good as it hauls.

ever been to the strip with it?

I was manual shifting it, tach is correct it hits the limiter at about 6500-6600RPM no chip.I see it jumping from 55mph to 65mph during the 1-2 shift and pulling hard all the way.it gets a helluva 2nd gear scratch!!!

I hear ya, but AFTER the shift is when it jumps...noptice the lag at 55mph when you crossed the 6000 rpms range?

I am willing to bet that if you drag raced your car on the strip, and left it in drive, you'd be 1/10th quicker.
Your motor stops "pulling" at 6000 rpms in stock trim. They refer to that as "nosing over".

take a good look at your video...watch the rate of acceleration up to 50 mph...now watch the speedo lag at 55 until your shift...that's what I mean.

unless you have a tune/chip, the timing gets retarded at about 5800 for the impending 6000 rpm factory shift point. retarded timing at 5800 rpms = not making power anymore.

still a cool vid...not knocking it... just wanted you to know, that's all.

oh, and BTW, manually shifting a 93 tranny at 6500 is a surefire way to smoke that stock unit.

I'ts got 133,000 miles on it and I have been shifting it this way for 6 years and no tranny problem yet, besides I have a spare trans in the garage from a wrecked 93 that I parted out. I like to drive it hard, it's alot of fun!!!! and I see what you mean it does flatten out at 55 I was wanting to show that it will turn 6500RPM I normally shift at 6000RPM.

now wth, someone riddle me this...i know the speed limiter is at 136 137 or somthing, but i have pushed my mark past 140 a few times before, and i shift WOT at 62-6600 (and hell into 71 when the trans slips bad) Even with the trans not slipping in the past, it still shifted wot at 62-66. Now, i havent done the comp, but it sounds like i dont have the stock settings there. Do you think someone in the past did that to my car?

yank your ECU and see if there is a chip plugged into it. Either that or your tach/speedo are way off.

The top speed limiter is around 127 on a base model, and 122 on a LSC(correct me, I know I'm wrong, but close).

factory shift point is 6000 rpms at WOT.

however, back when chips got popular, many folks bought them to remove the top speed limiter, and alter the factory shift point. Unless you have modified your engine, shifting past 6000 is a waste of time...take a look at a stock mark VIII dyno sheet...they stop making power at 6100 or so(when well tuned).

I couldn't get this link to work on another thread so here what my exhaust sounds like in the car. I tried to do it outside the car but it sounded like CRAP.

Nice video, you can definately see the timing being retarded (the delay) on the shift. My stock car did the same thing. Just by upping the line pressure and removing the timing retard in between shifts gave me at least .1 in the 1/4 mile.

how did you remove the timing retard?

Posted by: 98LSC32V

Only way to remove the timing retard is with a custom burned chip or dyno tune.

this vid is over a year old, since I've added 373 trac loc diff. and
re-programed the computer,and U/D pulleys.

If the manual 1-2 upshift doesn't get you, the manual 4-2 downshift will. Say bye-bye OWC.

Posted by: JC1994

thanks for the tranny concerns but at 136,000 miles and it's still working like new. if it should give out anytime soon, well thats to be expected with that mileage so what the heck... I think I got a good one!
