*My First Test Drive*

Today I test drove a 2002 V8 LS and I sorry to say I wasn't hooked. I mean I loved just loved the get up and go it had but I was disappointed by the smothness of the ride. I could feel every bump on the rode it felt like, not trying to dis the LS but my 71 ford rode smother than it and I'm serious. Other than the smoothness of the ride I loved it because this LS had some balls I didn't even have the petal all the way down and it was going. But the one thing I like the most was the instant accaleration response. But if was Lincoln I would put four wheel independent suspension and air ride too.

The whole idea behind the LS was to make a luxury SPORTS sedan not a Town Car or Continental. It was designed to compete with the BMW 5-series and all cars in that category. Also, the LSE has the sport suspension and it may ride a tad bit harder than a base model due to the sport shocks and lower profile tires. The LS is not a log wagon by any means so the car you drove may have been in need of some shocks even some tire pressure. I'd suggest you go drive a new 2005 LSE and compare the difference. You won't be saying much about the ride then because Lincoln worked the suspension on the 2003 and up models. They ride much better. Almost too much IMHO.

I agree, personally I dont care for the "floating on marshmellow" rides that the towncars and the cont. have, But hey, thats why I like the LS, to each their own!

Um, the LS does have independent front and rear suspension. If you want a soft
ride, you should get a Towncar. Like GrayGhost1 said, the LS is a luxury sport sedan.

Air ride is too soft in my opinion, don't know how well air suspension would hold up with the cornering and speed this thing is well known for, i think it would lose a lot of its handling characteristics.

ROTFLMAO, that's pretty funny. All I can say is, DUH! Even the HARSHEST riding '71 cars (Vettes, f-bods, Mustangs, Pintos and Vegas) probably ride "smoother" than the LS, or anything else made after 1993 for that matter. Better handling pretty much necessitates a firmer suspension. Like others said, if you don't want to feel the road, the LS (or any other true sports sedan) is not the car for you. Shop for a Town Car, Crown Vic, or about any Buick.

I would agree with that, however I only have friends that have a Mark VIII and I can't say by owning one.

The Mark 8 did have 4 wheel air bag suspension.

I've never driven one though.

The LS w/sport package like my 00 does tend to ride harsh as you feel every bump in the road - but it isn't violent or abusive. I like a stiff suspension anyways, and oddly enough most of my passengers remark what a smooth ride the LS gives.

The non-sport package LS supposedly rides alot smoother, try taking one of them out. Also look for one with 16" wheels, they'll give a softer ride.

And if that fails, it's possible the LS isn't the kind of car you're looking for.

Michigan is famous for its "michigan left" turns that are everywhere, can't beat the very little body roll while comin out of one at 45 beating a light!!!!

The LS has independent suspension.......front and rear. As for the air ride, you should buy a Mark VIII. They have all sorts of problems with those systems. As for the ride, it is supposed to be sporty.......not floaty.

WOW, I thought the ride was sooo much smoother. I guess thats cause I used to drive econo cars before I got my LS. Its not too smooth, but get in a cavalier or any car in that category than go to an LS and wow! I didn't think the LS would be such a great handling car either, I thought my z24 and '03 cav coupe did great but they hold nothing on this LS. Nothing like not knowing how fast you are going unless you look at the speedo. I got the LS to 115 and it felt like 65 or so and reponse was sweet.

I'm sorry if I affended any of you LS drive out there. You gave me a new outlook on it and why it rides how it rides, and also corrected me on things I should of know I'm sorry.

The next chance I get to test drive a LS I will try a newer model and see if I can tell the difference. The also the reason I was a little upset on the ride is because I used to own a 97 Continental till I was Sandwich between two car.
