Ok, my friend is getting a 409 put in his monte carlo, and i do not like the idea of getting beat! hes guestimating 370 horse, 450 lb ft. First of all i NEED a posi 410. I need to get the car up to atleast 350 horse, if i can without too much work. And if at all possible get that turbo deal with the laptop so i can adjust all that good stuff. How much do you think it would cost me to hit those goals?

PS put new autolite plugs in the mark, tc off, dropped into first, and did two 150+ft long one legger marks down the street! Be proud of me

Are you talking about a "409" Big block? I'm thinking a 400 SBC, just bored. Is he doing that N/A, sprayed, or forced? An SBC is gonna be ALOT easier to mod for power than the 4.6 quad cam will ever be.

Are you talking about modding your monte, or the mark?

you left 2 marks that were over 150ft long? what exactally are your mods on your car? do you know how long 150ft is?

Re-Read the wording of his post........"and did two 150+ft long one legger marks down the street!" This would mean, with his open differential he did 2 different burnouts, 1/2 of a football field long.

did you say something that doesn't involve to much work and turbo in the same sentence

I know what he meant, but even still.. a fairly stock mark does not leave 150ft marks... trust me I've tried sooo many times on both my cars and it hasn't happened. even with 4.10's I can't leave marks like that.

not being a wiseass here, but did you try without the traction control on,because i know on my dads 93 i could spin the one wheel for what seemed like forever,150 feet seem short compared to what i have done .

I agree, I have left some pretty substantial strips, and my mark doesn't even run as well as it should. It's still fun though.

Come talk to me when you can lay 150 footers with a locker, and 315's.

My only response to that is
I WISH I WAS TALKING TO YOU RIGHT NOW...

I know I was still spinning them at the 330 mark at Union Grove. I stayed in it because I was too embarrassed to get out of it. Led to 17.8 qtr. The first and last time I ever ran tires thru the water pit.

the longest stretch I have laid is this, and I don't know how many feet this is but i do know its not 150feet

What posi unit do you have in there? Looks like it works pretty good.

that was the stock rear end for my 93, with 3.07 gears.

i noticed the only way to do a long killer burnout is to brake torque it and wait for the rpm's to get up to at least 4ooo, slightly let off the brake and add a lil wiggle with the steering wheel. i did a killer burnout last night. imma take a pic later

That's a good 75 feet. Not bad. Not bad at all.

but, being able to stripe the pavement can also mean you have horrible weight distribution, bald tires, and minimal traction.

when at the strip, you want your car to hook. leaving a 75 footer pretty much means your not going to put down the good numbers.

All the HP in the world means nothing, if you cant put it to the pavement.

BTW, my longest in my 94 was only about 45 feet...but then there was a slight gap, and another 10 footer! (happiness is laying rubber in second gear with a JMOD)

BTW, this is right about where Geno's tail-wag at the strip video should be posted. nothing like having to counter-steer while running in a straight line, huh Geno?

Of course, warming them up prior to striping the pavement wont help you either:

Speaking of getting sideway, the scariest moment I ever had at the track was some car spilled oil right before my run at the top end of the track... I got sideways going 80-85... close call! Instead of trapping 96-97 mph on that run I only did 92.5mph even though my launch was good...

thats awesome ,
but we were talking about 150 foot + marks with one wheel spinning,
you got both wheels laying rubber big difference.

its nice to see you got good dual traction there.

my long burnouts look like this:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

yours was this:

---------------------------
---------------------------

TRACTION...sometimes is cool... but sometimes, lack of it is cooler!

Posted by: rmac694203

I laid down a nice one the other day, it wasn't close to 150 feet but my rear end got all over the place and I left a pretty cool wave-looking strip. I was proud. My girlfriend was pissed though because "it smells bad." I was like "oh, it's worth it."
