Brake upgrade options?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Russo

Hey guys.
Now that I got my new 19" wheels I need some bigger brakes, for the wheels are pretty damn heavy. What options are available out there?
So far i found these:
https://www.kvrperformance.com/order...ay.cfm?ID=1836
http://www.diskbrakesrus.com/make/lincoln/mark.htm
http://www.supercoupeperformance.com...V8%20Parts.htm

Does LMS offer any brake packages? I found a couple of threads on the LMS/Brembo package on the other forum, but that was from 5 years ago, so it's probably not available anymore.

Is there any other alternatives out there? I have a budget of about $1.5K
Thanks!

A set of $450 cobra brakes will do you just fine. No need to spend $1500 in brakes. Get some Poterfield pads and they will put you through the windshield when you breathe on the pedal.

couple questions about the cobra brakes, what size are the rotors? and also are their calipers a 2 or 4 piston? cause i like the 4 pistons. and if the do make a 4 piston caliper system, how much would it be. thanks.

Posted by: Tractionless

13" rotors. 4 piston PBR calipers, the same BAER uses and just puts their name on. You can't use your stock rims and be very careful with the offset you use on the new rims. I had to get a spacer to get the caliper to clear. The entire front kit is $450 from Performance Parts Inc. 703 742-6207.

cool... thanks

Good Info, but the rear needs it more than the front. If just for looks. The rear rotors are rediculously small for a 4,000 lb car and look like crap with big rims. Info...?

www.r1concepts.com. Drilled/slotted/zinc plated for very cheap.

Has anyone actually used these on their car? Why are they so cheap?

has some nice sh!t, and will give you a deal if you push him (Bill)

I have had both the Brembos AND the ones from DiskbrakesRUS and the ones from diskbrakes for 450-500 are just as good as my brembos.
Of course they dont quite have the cool factor as the brembos but they both felt the same with my 20s.

Posted by: Cubster

I got mine @ discbrakesrus.com 13" drilled & slotted w/ 2 pistoned calipers, had them ( rotors & calipers ) powder coated for the front, in the rear 12" rotors w/ the cobra calipers powder coated too. I don't care where you go but you WON'T find these cheaper or better quality anywhere else, btw they're made in Canada, none of that cheap made in china stuff (< lotta problems warping ) Tom & Jeff are 2 great guys they were more than helpful. Now I can stop on a dime & give you 9 cents change !!! Almost forgot, I got the Hawk pads as well. I recommend them highly

Cubby, got a pic of the rotors? I'd love to see how they look. The car NEEDS bigger rotors and calipers. It just does.

Posted by: Tractionless

I will be installing the R1 Concepts rotors on the rear and keep you informed. For as little as I drive the car and not hard at all I'll stick with the stock rear calipers and rotor size.

The stuff at discbrakesrus is the same as the info. I listed above but discbrakesrus is $200 more and the calipers dont' say "Cobra" on them!

I wanted to correct this post the calipers are 2 piston not 4.

If you read the info @ discbrakesrus.com you would've seen that they can put anything you want on your calipers

Yes they can but it isn't raised with a brushed finish like the Cobra ones it is just painted on one dimensional

To each his own though, if you want to pay $200 more for those be my guest. I just know alot of members with MarkVIII's like to assimilate their cars with the Cobra that is why I pointed it out. IE Cobrastars, Cobra wheels, Cobra intakes, Cobra rearends, um Cobra brakes....

Actually its silk screened on and then baked, and it wasn't 200 extra, tractionless, obviously your thought process!!!

Ok lets see the ones I posted are $450. The three sets available from discbrakesrus.com are $550-$650. So thats $100-$200 more right off the bat. Then if you want your custom color $60, or a candy color $100. Whose thought process? Silkscreening and baking is one dimensional, check out the t-shirt you are wearing that's silkscreened. The Cobras insignia is cast into the caliper.

I really don't give a crap what you put on your car, just do the math right for all of those who are trying to compare between the two.

Next!

UNSTOPPABLE,
What calipers are they then? The sure look like PBR's to me.

" Compare between the two " mmmm well to start with, discbrakesrus rotors are made in Canada, as opposed to who knows where the ones your talking about are made "Next!" probably the next planet your on your way to, Uranus.
remember one thing, the QUALITY lasts long after the price is forgotten, so do YOUR shopping at the discount store, you'll GET what you pay for !!!!!!!!

I've been looking on Ebay and finding some good deals of the complete set (calipers, rotors, banjo bolts, and some have the brake lines) for under 450, the only question I have is what years are compatible?

Posted by: wm_sorg

Hey Russo,

Let me know what you want for your old calipers. I am getting a slight pull to the left on my mark and I think one of my calipers is shot. I live in Northern Va so I can pick up if the price is right.

Ya, I call a spade a spade, Tractionless, your a FU CKING MORON

sheeeeesssssssh... what a day... pretty much i spent my day calling a couple performance brake sites BAER & KVR. I like Baer but they DO NOT make 4 piston calipers anymore, and i want no less and no more than 4 piston calipers. Baer only offers 2 pistons & 6 pistons. so anyway after telling the guy over at Baer, that my car will fit the 96-98 cobra brakes i finally got quoted with 13" rotors drilled and slotted 2 piston caliper system for $695. The 6 piston caliper system is with a 13 1/2" rotors (too big) is $2445 (too much)

Then i called KVR (spoke to the tech dude who makes the rotors, and drills the crap) which he knew what brakes i needed, quoted me for a 2 piece 13" rotors cross drilled, with a 4 piston caliper $2,250 . I told him that i want drilled and slotted, he is like "i dont and will never make them" im like umm.. ok.

So im more or less leaning towards Baer, but i dont want the 2 piston caliper, i rather have the 4 and pay alil more, but not $2,250. well im going to try my luck tomorrow with Wilwood, see what prices they have for a 4 piston caliper system. As much as i love Brembo, but they are crazy with thier prices. sorry guys but i needed to vent alil, and share what i was quoted.

Yes, I have seen atleast 6 people that has them installed and they love the end result. I will be getting them by next summer as well as some 18's.

Price, look, and performance of these brakes can't be beat for the price, IMHO.

This brake kit could be purchased on ebay for roughly $450, or less . Just search up: Cobra brake calipers.

Posted by: Tractionless

Go back in the thread, I listed a phone # where you can get the kit for $450.

thanks, i appreciate it.
