2001 LS "Check Advance Trac" came on

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I pulled out of the garage this morning and sprayed some tire shine on the tires as I was going to run it thru the local wash. While sitting in my drive way running, the "check advance trac" warning came on in the display and the orange " car with slippery tracs" icon came on and stayed on.
also the warning stayed in the display. It seems to be functioning fine
traction control still works and I can still hit the switch on the console and it lights up for off like normal.

I have done nothing new to the car except last week I had new 18's put on.
no problems till today.

Is there a way to "reset" this warning? or am I stuck going to the dealer?

I tried to pull a code with my obdII reader but said nothing to pull.

That happened to me once within 2 days of buying the car.. While sitting in the car talking to some friends i heard a beep and it said something about check trac control or something. But all i did was turn car off turn back on and never had it show up again..

it can be triggered by:
- a 'driving event' the was beyond the control of the Advanced Track system - for example - if you throw the car around a corner or spin the tires - the Advance Track will complain that it cannot compensate.
- something is amiss with the ABS sensors of system. The brakes are a key part of the Traction system.

I have had mine come on a few times (especially when driving hard). The warning goes away once I turn off the car.

thats the problem though It wont go away.
I shut off the car severl time now even went out 10 minutes ago for lunch and it was still on.
I bought a cheapo tool kit from checker and I disconnected the battery. I'll give a it about an hour to be completely cleared. I hope that will work.
btw quik I saw you posted how to join lloc via paypal.
can you fill me in.

then is could be a bad or dirty ABS wheel sensor.

Posted by: jwdomino

yeah its weird. I dont even have to move it come on right at startup

Posted by: jwdomino

well disconnecting the battery didnt work.

would not the abs light come on then?
the traction control system seems to work. I tried accelerating hard and it did its thing.
any one have another tip?

The tire size both rim and profile difference is causing the speed sensors to read incorrectly. You would probably need a tire size compensator or a tuner to correct it. Try leaving the batt off for like 30 minuts maybe its retaining the error.

This sort of thing went out on my 2001 chevy Tahoe not too long ago, dealer wanted over 1k to fix it. It went and my ABS pump would NOT turn off...even w/ car OFF!

Anyhow I found this guy

www.modulemaster.com

http://www.modulemaster.com/fordabsbsrepair.html

Now I don't see Lincoln as one he does..BUT maybe it b/c he has not had to. All I know is I sent this guy my unit, and he fixed it and sent it back within 2 days, and I was back to NORMAL for under $200 that saved me a lot of cash. Might be worth a shot to call him, very friendly guy and heck... nothing to lose..Right!?

Do you notice a popping noise coming from the brake pedal when the car has been driven for awhile? There is a TSB for this problem..........I believe for your electronic brake control module. My car is making the popping noise, however, I have not had a problem with the light coming on yet. Anyways, here are the part numbers (IN BOLD) for your car (advance-trac, right? That is the last listing here and that module goes for $670.)

Control Module
ABS Only YW4Z2C219BA $307.65 Notes
IVD Stands For Interactive Vehicle Dynamics System.

ABS/Traction Control
Without IVD 1W4Z2C219BA $393.30 Notes
IVD Stands For Interactive Vehicle Dynamics System.

With IVD 1W4Z2C219CB $670.30 Notes
IVD Stands For Interactive Vehicle Dynamics System.

Here is the labor for your module:
0.5 hours

So............unless the dealership is charging you for about 6 times the amount of labor, then I would talk to their manager. Assuming labor is $115/hour (that is at my dealership), then you should be expecting with tax included assuming 6% sales tax to only pay about $775. I got all this information from alldata.com (the site mechanics/advisors use to find out labor times, TSB's, part #'s, and repair instructions). Hope this helps you out. This goes for anyone out there........if you want to know how much you should pay to get work done on your car, let me know and I will tell you how much everything will be. These damn stealerships thinking they can get away with this fraud gets old, ya know?

they said its an hour for labor
670 is the price for the part too
best offer i have recieved is 750.30 installed

Posted by: jwdomino

the ty part is I could install it myself but... they would then have to program it

I was going to say you could install it yourself, but then you'd have to get it towed to a dealership, so in the end, it wouldn't be worth it. Sorry to hear that this happened to your car.........hoping the same doesn't happen to me, but if it does, i guess i'll just have to suck it up and do it. I wonder if anyone knows where you can get a used one, you know, like off a totaled car or something. I don't know if anyone has any connections or anything........i'll do some searching around. But you should really talk to them about why it is an hour labor and not 0.5 like it is only supposed to be.
