trunk springs

i got a 99 town car and recently put peel and seal on the trunk, this made the trunk heavy so when i push the open button it wont go up, and the trunk when it is open closes cuz of the weight pulling it down, . so in conclusion, how can i adjust the trunk springs? i see there seems to be 3 settings but it is very hard to move the bar, anyone got any ideas?
