Turn Signals Dead?

My 98's turn signals went screwy yesterday and pooped out over about an hour's time. At first, they'd blink too fast... then would only work if you held the stick just so... now neither work at all.

I got a replacement switch at Advance Auto.

I need to remove the steering wheel (I have a puller) but I've never done this before.

What should I look out for?

Make sure the aftermarket part is up to specs. I purchased an aftermarket turn signal switch and ended up returning it because it was defective. See below link:
