Tires for my 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII

I need new tires for my 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII. I have stock size rims.

I dont want to spend a whole bunch of money, but I want something decent.

Suggestions?

I have a set of brand new Bridgestone Potenza G009's in 225-60-16 that I will sell for 400.00 shipped. They only have about 110 miles on them. I got new 18" rims so I need to sell them.

Yokohama Avid V4S in 245/50/VR16 from www.tirerack.com for $95 each. That is what I am running on my car. You may find tires cheaper, but not much better, if at all. Here is the link to the tire on Tire Rack, and you can see the specs by clickin on the specs link at the top of the pic. Notice that the UTQG is 500 AA A, that is the best on a high performance tire I have ever seen.

They also make them in the factory size if you want to stay with that size.

Why the 245's Ray? WHy not the 225's?

I am not saying that you should go with the 245's, but that is what I run. It just gives you a better contact patch, and IMHO it gives a better look. Better than the skinny 225's....in the 60 series at least.

if you stick with the stock size 225/60/16 then spend a little more and get somthing that will ride really nice EX: pilot xhth4 I loved them and picked them up at an NTB for 89 a tire.
now I have the 245/50/16 and love them the ride did not change much there is no diff. in MPG and they look and hook better. Like you I was trying to go this on the cheep side I went with a sumitomo ( that is so not how that is spelled haha) but they were like 90 each and there not bad I have had the BFgoodrench KDWS and loved them I will be getting them next time/ or on a set of rims if I can ever find some that I like!!!

Well, as fate has it - Monstermark called me last night as he was driving back from kentucky. He needed tires also - so he stopped at Tire Rack so we could both save shipping charges and he is on his way with them now.

We split the difference going with the 235/60/16 - Yokohama Avid V4S -

Avid V4S : Iv heard people call them junk, and I have no Idea why. I sold them to my dad and he loves them, he has like 25,000 on them and they proform like new. also in the 235 depending on brand the monted with will some times give you a larger contact patch than a 245 I know this is true with Avon, and toyo.

I hate Michelins. Over-rated and over-priced IMHO. That said, there is only one tire in the high-performance all-season tire category from Tire Rack that rates better.

Cubby, which Michelins do you speak of?

I have been known to do a few burnouts from time to time and I really don't like the guilt trip one gets smokin up some expensive vulcanization. At $80 a copy, these will provide some guilt free opportunites that I might have had to reconsider on pricier rubber.

Plus, Joey and I got a 30 day conditional warranty. I really had to whine and make a scene in the front lobby to get the warranty. If it turns out we don't like them, we return them for a full refund.

Can't beat that with a stick!

Joey, post a pic quick before I mount them.

And I'll take the free Yoko tire as opposed to the Pilots $$ for $$.

Well, the tires are on and they feel great. I need new rear shock mounts and they were starting to clunk with the old crap 'touring' tires I had on. Not any more. Very nice ride. I hit a long off-ramp that I usually hit 80 on. Tonight I added 20 to that total, and there was more there but they are new tires and not broke in. I think these tires will be screaming for some bigger sway bars soon. The compound is pretty hard but the tires warm up nicely. I'll post another review in a thousand miles or so. Right now, any time you put on new tires they should feel sweet, as these do so no surprise.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up Ray. I really like the way the 235's in the 60 series fill up the wheel-wells. They are a 1/2" taller than stock so the car looks like it is dropped another 1/2", which works out nicely.

I had the Michelins - all I can say was that I was unimpressed. I didnt make my decision on price, I jsut didnt want to spend $150 a tire was all.

I like how these fill in the wheel well also - and I too need new shock mounts, which is my next project.

I think the reason that that tire you are referring to is higher rated is because when I bought mine last year the tire had just come out, or at least they were just being offered by Tire Rack in the size. They are relatively a newer tire in comparo with the BFG Traction T/A's.

With that said, I can not under stand how the BFG is better because the rating is only 440 A A on them, AND they are only H rated. The Yoko's are 500 AA A, AND they are V rated......again....you do the math.

My second choice would have been the Perelli P-Zero Nero tires but I didn't want a shorter tire as I went fatter.

Our cars 'require' an 'H' rating at a minimum and more appropriately the 'V' speed rating so be careful what you are buying.

A local tire guy has almost sold me on the Traction T/A's but I didn't like the tread pattern and the actual contact patch. BF Goodrich doesn't list the tread width to hide this fact I assume.

Anyway, knowing Ray and what a maniac he is when he drives sometimes, I felt if he was still alive, one of the reasons must have been because of the tires. I like the fact that they are directional tires, have a big contact patch, 60,000 mile tread warranty and good overall grip and overall tire height. Price to me was a bone thrown in. Like I said, no guilt when burning them up.

And you know everybody that goes to Carlisle will be burning them. I know I will and I expect Ray and Geno will too.

The guy that installed them did a great job balancing them, even refusing my tip and stayed late to do the work after the shop was closing. He said all I had to do to show my appreciation was a little smoke show going out of the lot to properly seat the beads. Of course I obliged and left a nice smokescreen to waft thru the shop. Heck, I had to clean them off, didn't I?

As far an an endorsement, too soon to tell. If I don't like them in the next 30 days, they will go back. That's a pretty decent guarantee. How many other tires offer that? With over 86% of owners saying they would buy them again, I'll probably end up raising that % to 87.

WTF Michelin is the best you cant look at tire company stats when you want performance my Michelins were 89 a tire.
Ill help you out www.frisbyracetire.com Give them a call I konw mike the owner he has been doing this for like 50 years and every one there knows there sh it. call them and they will set you up with the best tire for your app.

I know I am bringing a long dead thread back from the grave. However, would you still buy the Avid A4s?

I need new tires for my new Mk VIII and found this thread. And haven't found any newer tire threads other than ones for larger than original sizes, IE 18's etc.

My opinion hasn't changed. Best tire for the money and you won't feel too guilty and roast them up someday.

Just ask Driller how well I used to heet up those hides.......some of the best burnouts the day we went to the dragstrip.....

Basically, but you hafta remember.....my car was completely stock with the exception of a timing adjuster and 9MM spark plug wires.

One more question. Is 245 as wide as you can go on the stock rims and still be safe? I figure it probably is but thought I would ask.
