Air ride sensor came off

Not sure how, but in the course of las night my passenger side front air ride sensor snapped and fell off. Now i've had my air ride switch shut off for a while now so the car doesnt sit too high with my 18''rims.... so my question is can i just leave it be, or ?? Seems like it would be ok as long as the air ride is off id figure, but i duno. Definantely the first time this has happend. And while im at it, is it healthy to leave the air ride off all together??, nothing's leakin or anything of that nature.

As long as the air ride is off you shouldnt have any problems. As soon as you need to ajust the ride level, the sensor will have to be remounted.

wow that was quick reply, i love this site. lol. But what about how im leaving the air ride off, is that bad for it?

I dont think so. It just shuts the compressor/computer off and locks the air in the air spring/strut.

man, mine fell of yesterday too - it;s a bad week for ride height sensors.

yea lol, i thought i may have been the only to have this happen. what happend when yours came off (assuming your air ride was on) ? did the car drop? raise?

If the sensor pops off once, it'll pop off again. The sensor, or at least the little clip in the end of the sensor needs replacing to keep it from happening again.

On most cars, leaving the suspension switch off for long periods of time is no problem. On a Mark VIII that is a different story. Mark VIII's are notorious for moisture problems inside the air suspension system. While moisture inside any electric motor isn't the greatest thing that could happen, swelling the rings and making work harder than normal to do the same job. At least with the moisture, some parts are kind of lubricated by the moisture. When the compressor is allowed to "dry out", all that moisture turns to crud and makes it really hard for the compressor to turn. I had a customer that only turned the compressor on once a month or so. When his compressor went, it was the worst I had EVER seen! I was going to rebuild his compressor until it was examined. I told him he needed a whole new assembly just to start.

Moral of the story is.....you may not have a moisture problem at all. But just in case, it would be better in ther long run to just replace the sensor. Good luck.

a question - ever since the sensor fell off, I feel like that part of the car (front left) is a bit lower, maybe half an inch, than the other side. Since the car has been sensor lowered, it might just be my adjustment, but the thing is, I haven';t changed the sensor lowering for that side, and it was lowered before the sensor fell off. I think it might just be related to the fact that I need a new compressor as well.

This past winter my compressor seemed to run more than it needed. (the check air ride system would come on) It did not do this durning the summer or fall and when temp was over 30 degrees it would not do this either.

I thought that maybe the moister was freezing in the compressor. I have a friend who has given me a spider valve. I'm just waiting for a little time to put it on.

Question would the valve help or would this be a sensor.
