Sniper Scout chip

Really interested in this:

http://www.machperformanceparts.com/mp/9999Fords.html

Now, it says it's available for all ford applications 1996 and above. I am assuming this means I could use it in my 94 lincoln, given that it's the same motor / computer as in 96? Or am I totally wrong here?

Like anything you have to know what your doing and changing. Our chip is MAXED out and has been very overdeveloped over the years.

I would say no.the 96's and up all have obd ii computers with flashable programming.

sucks,i know

Mike

, you are right - the chip is for OBD ii.

I agree I would have to know what I was doing, the device comes with a cd that makes the interfacing easier and helps you know what it is exactly that you are controlling. They have a few other programmable projects for older cars, like this here:

http://www.machperformanceparts.com/mp/9998Diesel.html

This allows me to have up to 6 pre programmed programs. Badmk8, are your chips reflashable if I change my mods? Like lets say I change injector size, or maf size....

Posted by: 67Continental

While we are on the subject, how crazy would it be to change my car to obd ii?

Just send it in for a reburn.

Posted by: 67Continental

what percentage of the price of a new chip is a re burn? Does your chip replace my current stock chip, or does it work alongside?

Its a piggyback that plugs into your service port on the computer. Our chip is $299.00 with a lifetime warranty and a 30 day MBG.

The reburns for custom applications are $99.00.

Posted by: 67Continental

Cool - and is it necessary, using your chips, to reburn when I change components? When I initially buy a chip from you, I assume you ask me what mods I have in the engine already, and then tailor the chip around that? Or is it a general program that works in all setups?

I just got an email from Sniper Scout telling me that the Scout will work with my 94 mark, as the computer is eec-v. this is good news, I hope they are right.

Wow,you must have the only 94 EEC V!!!

Posted by: phreakness

EEC-V = 96 and up if memory serves

Posted by: 67Continental

According to this article, marks, t birds and cougars were eec-v in 94. I was concerned because my car is not obd-ii which seemed to be a requirement for their device.

http://www.coolcats.net/mn12/1994.html

Posted by: 67Continental

if that article is wrong, how hard would it be to swap to eec-v obd ii i?

Posted by: Moes8

i know some fords got eec-v in 94 but i never thought marks did.
does your car have the scan port under the hood or do you have a connector diectly under the dash like obd-ii?
it appears the sniper will flash through the obd ii port like other flashers(ie,superchips max, hyperrtechs )

it would be awesome if it works on pre 96 marks

i am waiting to hear back from the rep I spoke to - i should know by monday evening at the latest.

All 93-95 Mark VIIIs use EEC IV computer also known as OBD I, maybe except Tasca Mark, but I think it had two EEC IV.

In 1996 Lincoln changed it to EEC V - OBD II and remained this way until 1998.

Any flasher or chip designed for OBD II computers will NOT work on OBD I cars, no matter what they tell you.

Changing to EEC V is too much work, although it can be done. Lonnie upgraded his 1995 Mark8 to EEC V due to emission laws in California. It was a PITA. You have to change most sensors and rewire a lot of stuff.

Damn, I hate misinformation.

I just got an email from sniper tuning:www.Snipertuning.com

The spartan (which will flash all 1996-newer obd-ii cars made by GM,FORD,and Chrysler) will cost $749

i cant believe it will flash all big 3 cars.

They also have a "patriot" model coming out that can be purchased for either,Gm,Ford,or Chrysler, but not all 3 in 1, selling for $395.00

They are to be released in July

i am really amped with possibilities of these units.
i know some peeps will knock them, but to each his own.

Mike

i wish i was obd ii

So what does this Sniper Scout chip for $749.00 or $395.00 do more than Geno's chip from LMS for $299.00, quite a price difference.

it allows you to plug in a laptop and control every programmable aspect of your mark viii's computer.

I am not saying this is better,i have no idea, and i would hate to have this thread hinder Geno sales of his awesome chips.

What thrills me about this unit is that you are only reflashing the oem computer,no chip install, just plug into the obd ii port under your steering wheel,it logs data while d riving to help you decide how to tune .it works on every US car,so icould buy this and flash my cars,my wifes car,my dads cars,,yadayadayada.

plus i am just a tinkerer, and having ability to change the program when i want is cool to me.

Plus,if you only want these features for FORD brand vehicles the price is $395
here are the features according to the manufacturer.

Automotive "end user” Tuning features:

Fuel enrichment
Ignition timing
EGR on/off
Rear axel ratio
Fan turn-on setting
Rear O2 on/off
Tire height
Trans shift points
Trans shift firmness
Idle speed
Rev limiter
Speed limiter
Traction control
Two-step Rev limiter
and much more to be announced later

The Spartan is small and light enough to carry around with you to perform other daily functions such as:

Windows Media player
- allows you download & listen to music
- allows you download & watch videos
Active Sync
Calculator
Calendar
Appointment book
Contact book
Internet Explorer
Instant messaging
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Video Games
Alarm clock
SD Card slot for additional memory
Compact & lightweight design (5 ½” x 3 ½” x ¾”)
Durable CNC Aluminum construction

....Like i said,i dont how good/bad it is,just saying its a new type of product with more features than anyone else to date

Posted by: 98LSC32V

I believe SCT and Diablo also have products like this for 96-98.

Yes,they do,but the difference is you can only have one vehicle tuned per unit,

when you flash your ecm it store your factory setting on the programmer, locking it to your particular vehicle,it will then only be usable after you hook it back up to your vehicle and remove the "performance" tune and replace it with the stock tune.plus they sell different part number programmers for each model of car.

otherwise its the same deal i guess,

i'm sure there will be plenty of tests of this product when its avail.and then we will know if its any good
