10 minute plug install? U sure?

I bought those autolite 764 copper plugs and was gonna have my father-n-law install them because someone on here said they are easy, but they don't look very easy to get at. What all do you have to take off to get to all 8 spark plugs? Is there a tutorial on here for plug install?

I just dig and if I have to use a hose to put on the end. I say the hell with them and let some other mofo do it. That would be on a six banger. . .

Its very easy. There is no real tutorial, its very self explanitory.

Romove engine cover, remove throttle body tube, remove spark plug covers, unbolt the egr selonoid on the drivers side valve cover. Be sure to TAPE the 5/8 socket to the extension and mildly lube it and thats it. I do gen 1's in 15 min and gen 2's in 10 min.

Yep, I concur. A magnetic extraction tool helps, so does a long rubber hose to fit over the plug end to reinsert them. Hand thread only to ensure proper threading.

I would also recommend doing this only when the engine is cool. The Lightning guys have found that changing plugs with a hot engine ruins the treads in the engine.

It will take you 1 hour on your first change out, not 15 minutes. Remember to get some anti-seize for the threads also.

Agreed Mike. The point is, it is super easy to do on a 4 valver and gets easier and faster every time you do it.

well i'm sure it take someone who has a lift and years of experience on these cars maybe 15 minutes, but I'm sure it will turn in to another 8 hour nightmare like my f-bodies were

Why will you need a lift to do spark plugs.

do 1 cylinder at a time, gap your plugs to .054, and by all means, buy a magnetic spark plug socket...makes it much easier...especially if your tower seals have dripped a bit of oil onto the old plugs.

anti-sieze the threads, smear some dielectric grease on the wire boots, and install the new plug.

it takes longer to remove the beauty cover and intake tube, than it does to swap plugs.

Gen 1-15 minutes
Gen 2-10 minutes.

these are accurate numbers...but it isnt a race. take your time, and do them carefully.

FWIW, the Mark VIII DOHC engine is easier to install plugs in than a pushrod V8...especially a big block Mopar engine in a A body!(one of the few cars that it WOULD be easier to change plugs with a lift!)
