Quadant Shifter

A friend of my mothers gave my son her 1989 TC which is in great shape and has 78,000 miles on it. However, we had to replace the transmission and we then ran into a problem which the mechanic said was the "Quadant Shifter", which Ford no longer makes. Is there an after market for this item and secondly is the car safe to drive. Mech. says it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If it drives, drive it. I've never heard of a quadrant shifter but if its inside the transmission there is surely someone who makes it.
