Major oil leak - common places?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My '94 has a terrible oil leak. If the car sits in one place once warmed up, it literally leaks about a half quart in a day. Yet it sits in my parking lot for days without dripping but a few drops. What are the most common places to have such a major oil leak on these cars?

Sounds like a cam cover gasket. If it sets, the oil is down low in the engine, and won't leak. Either that or the seal between the oil filter adapter and the block. (thats more common)

Oil Pan, just a guess. Get down there and take a peak. . .

Since the oil filter is a common culprit, I would look at that first, how high dose it go on the engine, can you see where it's coming from? If it was the oil pan it would probably leak when cold too.

I'm having the same problem, mine is actually leaking from 2 places. With the help of our buddy Ray (thanks again man), we determined it was coming from the oil pressure switch, and most likely the rear main seal. I recently learned that the rear main seal starts to go sometimes when these cars rack up the miles... mine has about 161,000. So take a look under your car and if it looks like it's maybe coming from around the front of the tranny, then it very well may be the rear main seal.

Mine's leaking from the rear seal too. And yes, it's expesive if you pay someone else to do it. I had a post on here somewhere about it. I think 1WykydMk8 put it in there.
